Project 86 – S.m.c. Lyrics 21 years ago
i love Andrew's straitforward attitude on this song.. i don't need to explain it... I am a christian, and i believe for any christian, this song is difficult to swallow, yet it is a great observation that Andrew wrote about... i think for any christian, especially a church-go-er, needs to step back and evaluate what Christ's love is all about, and now what some corrupt church may make it to be.

Wow, not too many people know thier music history.. let me try and enlighten you:

This song is nearly 70 years old. It was ORIGINALLY WRITTEN in the 30s by broadway stars Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart....
i can't begin to start how many people have performed this song. The Casa Loma Band was the first to release it and make a hit off it.... then Frank Sinatra....ELVIS.... Ella Fitzgerald...Billie Holiday...Bob Dylan...The Marcels...and yes, the band "Sha-Na-Na" performed it for the the movie Grease... later in our generation, Less than Jake and MxPx made thier own of the ballad. Know your roots.

MxPx – It's Undeniable Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is well written; Mike's trying to explain how humbleness is a huge factor in the ability to be receptive to others. In this case, the elaborates on his relationship with God. He humbles himself before God and allows God to take control of his life.. this isn't easy to do w/ a hardened heart.

MxPx – False Fiction Lyrics 21 years ago
i think you guys are pulling the "unless you know christ" part out of context. he's relating the so-called "freedoms" which are granted by our american government to what Mike believes is more true freedom he has found in Christ. he's not pressing people to worship Christ. there is no evidence that Mike says anything allong these lines... i think he's making a point that "if you don't know Christ, you probably won't understand what i'm talking about when it comes to this freedom i speak of"

Switchfoot – Meant To Live Lyrics 21 years ago
i love Switchfoot's socratic writing style. what that means, is they try and capture the listener to start asking questions instead of the artist spoon feeding us answers to us. obviously the question "what should i be living for?" is what most people should be asking themselves after listening to this song...with the lyric "have we lost ourselves?" clearly indicates that what most people are living for (american dream, money, corporate america) isn't quite what we should be living for... so this is not what we should live for.. so what should we live for?

if you read C.S. Lewis (which i believe are both the Foreman twins' favorite author) quotes this: "if i find myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that i was made for another world"

i don't belive this song is about a silly relationship/boy/girl stuff.. it's a lot more serious than this.. Switchfoot's members are Christians.. i believe this song is much more intentional to thier listeners to seek spiritual joy through God instead of the riches of this world.

MxPx – Foolish Lyrics 21 years ago
i'm sure being in Mike's shoes can be a very difficult situation... making a career in a punk band and living as a Christian at the same time. I'm sure Mike, Tom, and Yuri get a lot of criticism from a lot of people they interract with for what they believe in. I'm sure it's frustrating for them to be criticized yet don't have any room to even explain their beliefs to people because they don't want to listen.

Switchfoot – Learning To Breathe Lyrics 21 years ago
Switchfoot Quotes on "Learning to Breathe"
"It's about motion - moving from one place to another. Mainly the fact that we are one thing now, but God is calling us to be, you know He is changing us, He is transforming us into something new. He is changing us from a fallen world to a redeemed world that God is bringing about on this planet. And just kind of the motion that happens there. And just the call that each of us as a Christian has for that to what God is doing all around us. "

Switchfoot – Company Car Lyrics 21 years ago
switchfoot is clearly adressing this problem of how people try to find hapiness in materialism and worldy possesions. more specifically, how hapiness isn't found just by succeeding in corporate america and making the buck.. hapiness lies elsewhere.

Switchfoot – Adding To The Noise Lyrics 21 years ago
uhmm.. sorry guys.. this is from Jon directly

JON: Yeah, we always thought it would be really great to tell somebody to turn it off. See, we were looking at statistics, and the number-one CD of last year was the blank disc. And I was just thinking, what a better world this would be--and this might sound really odd coming from a musician--if we all listened to that blank disc just for an hour and 15 minutes, and contemplated life and just thought about what we're doing here. Maybe pop it in and go for a drive or something, and be forced to think our thoughts. That's kind of what "Adding To The Noise" is about. Our world spins very fast and there's a lot of traffic that goes by very quickly, but at the end of the day, there's no real motion, nothing has really changed--our hearts are still the same and our planet's still messed-up. So that song's kind of just...I don't know, I guess it is an ironic thing for somebody to tell you to turn the song off.
