Allrighty, arguing whose version of this song is the better is, at best, a rather pointless endeavour. That's because it's a matter of personal preference which you prefer and, if you're truly a Dave or Jimi fan you should heed their advice and respect other's opinions. Stop burning each other for being different, for being individuals. That being said, I prefer Dave's version, he just seems to sing it more emotion, pain. Also, I like the configuration of his band and instruments employed. Furthermore, I am a fan of both artists. (You may disagree ^.-) Continuing on... The meaning of this song, I've always felt, is that some people do indeed consider life to be a joke. They don't plan ahead, they don't try and change themselves or the world around. They move about with dull, complacent eyes; life isn't a game, in a nutshell. (Or is it all a dream? Am I crazy?) Also, a second message would be that you never truly appreciate what you unless you have to work to get it. For example, we in first world countries general have all the food that we want and then some, whereas in developing nations poverty and hunger are common strifes and everyday elements of life. That's all, peace out. |
