maybe i'm just dumb, but i liked thinking that it was honestly about a satellite he sees in the sky. like, he wrote it because he's always driving around at night to get to shows or wherever, and he kind of thinks of it as his friend, because it always shows up. 'riding with me/ passenger side' he'll look out the window and not feel so alone when he's driving around everywhere. i really liked the lines 'lighting the sky/always the first star that i find' cause it reminds me of when i was little and i would ask about the stars i saw and my parents would always tell me that they weren't stars, but satellites. even at a great stretch, i couldn't get anything about a girl out of this. it's just a guy singing about a star (satellite) he sees at night, that he's kind of adopted as his friend - 'you're my satellite'. or maybe i just naturally don't like ALL songs to be about guy/girl stuff. |

no one has commented! i love this song so much... it makes me think of my english teacher going on about those 'slice of life' realism stories we had to read.. but so much more interesting. song is self-explanatory, but i just love a song with a good plot. |

right... so i think you both missed the point... just because she's overweight doesn't mean she's not attractive, and she points that out in a few songs (like this one) it's nice to see someone in this culture who doesn't equate weight with beauty. |

i love so much how he describes the cooler people. 'But there are people you meet They're into something that is too big to be Expressed through their clothes And they'll put up with all the poses you throw' i think he's basically saying that the people that are cooler than you are the ones that don't really think about it. they just do what they want and their confidence and individuality gives them something that makes them so cool. i know a lot of people like this. |

tinfoilsally: i thought it was about a guy, too. the 'shirt tucked in', guys are usually the ones who can tuck in a shirt, and 'and the complications you could do without, when I kissed you on the mouth.' gave me the impression that it was a caring, platonic kiss on the lips and the dad saw it and it made more complications for everyone. |

My friend told me to download this, and I am now saving up my money for Plans. Everyone here has a good point, with the soulmates and everything, but I don't really see it as boyfriend/girlfriend or married love as much. To me, it seems like a guy talking to a girl friend who have both been really close, almost sibling-like for their entire lives ("You and me/ Have seen everything to see"). A boyfriend/girlfriend relationship seems to fleeting to be described by this song. It's more about two people who have been, and will always be very close to one another. When she dies, he'll be right behind her so they can face it together, just like in life. "If heaven and hell decide That they both are satisfied And illuminate the "no"s On their vacancy signs" I don't see this as much as wondering if heaven and hell exist as that if she's left out of both, like she won't be accepted or is just left behind, he'll be there with her. "If there's no one beside you When your soul embarks" Reinstating my point from before about the platonic relationship. If she dies without a husband or boyfriend, he'll always be there for her. |

I have to agree with earlier comments that "everybody must get stoned" refers to a biblical stoning, but that it was an ironic pun that it could refer to marijuana (which wouldn't fit with the song well anyways.) The PMS reference is an interesting idea, though. |

I loooove this song. I like the view of that he's 'physically involved' for the first time, it clarifies some stuff. I think that it's mostly about how he's grown up and just now looked back and realized that he can never re-live his childhood. And that their relationship is secret and or wrong (in the eyes of others close to them) hence the Bonnie and Clyde romance. I don't know. But I do love this with my heart and soul. |

I think I have to disagree with some of the other comments I've seen on this song. I don't think its so much about a girl who's taking advantage of him as him liking a girl. I really don't understand the motive very well, but my best guess is that he really likes the girl and hates her at the same time. And that she's 'easy', therefore: She says "come on, come on, let’s just get this over with” And he starts hating that she's so easy to get physically close to and such. I don't know. Just what I've been thinking as I listen to it. And you're missing my favorite line right near the end. It should go: I'm on the corner of your bed, (I'm practically naked) I'm thinkin maybe, are you turned on, are you turned on? |

kinda like your life is like a sequel to a movie where the actors' names have changed Ohhh I love this song.
