Under the bridge appears to be a love song for LA. However, there is s darker side to it. Anthony, being a heroin addict and in a band that was not making it, sold his soul under the bridge. He was there to score some dope, however, he ending up "giving his life away". A contract, signed in blood, sealing his fate. A little fame and fortune for his soul. |

Under the bridge. A story that appears to be a love song for LA. However, there is a darker theme to it. "Under the bridge" is where Anthony sold his soul for fortune and fame. Anthony was a heroin addict and he was under the bridge to score some dope. He was approached at that time to sell his soul and he did. He gave his life away to the devil . Signed a contract in blood. |

I agree that the song is about LA and the music industry. However, I would take it one step further and say that the song is about selling your soul for them and going to Hell. Members of the Eagles as many artist that go to LA sell their soul and now live with the horror of knowing that they will be residing in hell in the afterlife. A big price to pay for a little fame in fortune. Hell has a sign on it when you enter. "Abandon all hope, ye how enter". Once you are there, you can never leave. Many artist admit to selling their soul. Ozzy. Chilli peppers, staind, chris cornell.... yet we all are like nah. The hotel california is Hell. |

Awesome song. I think a few of you hit it on the head. I see it as a father would look at his child. "I am not your rolling wheels, I am the highway"......like I'm not going to make your decisions for you and live your life, and you don't know it but, I am the highway; |

Ya hey, this is a good tune. I love the acoustic version.....hard to find though. I think blue silver is refering to the car he is driving. refering to the blue metal of the engine.
I get the feeling that he is driving around a rich girl, who he thinks is beautiful but the girl also
takes pleasure from watching people in pain.... |

This is not about alcholism.....Chris is talking to us. We should drown ourselves in alchohol because that is what we need to do to handle the ugliness which he has created. He leads out in the desert, his fans, always thirsty and tells us to drink from the river where his girlfriend is lying dead in the sun. He asks us for sympothy in a scarcastic way like "how do you like me now..." |

| Pearl Jam – Yellow Ledbetter Lyrics

yeah, i know that eddie said in interviews that it doesn't mean anything....but he has said that about other songs...."black" being one of them. This is just his way of saying, "figure it out for yourself". Eddie gets annoyed when people ask him for a meaning to a song because as he says "the songs mean a lot of different things to different people and if I come out and give you a meaning to the song that ruins it for a lot of people". So my thoughts on what it means are.......
A ledbetter is a traveling musician or laborer. And a yellow ledbetter is a chickshit ledbetter. One that ignores the letters from their loved ones and one that doesn't wave back from the porch because they don't are running from their loved ones like coward. This hurts the loved ones making them contemplate whether they are a boxer or the bag. Thats just my interpretation. I am often wrong. |

omg. This has nothing to do with aids. Metaluna and pk are correct in that. Freddie says its about nothing....but it is a story. The story pkjun is how I often imagined it too. |

I agree with ZepHead379One. This song is almost a rippoff of the short story by Hawthorne, Young Goodman Brown. Look it up and read it. Zephead is correct. Great story. Great song. |

y'all read too much into this song. Bet Jagger whipped this out in 10 minutes; probably reflecting on the day he sold his soul. Who better to write a song about the devil than somone who has met him.
Song says the devil is alive and well and that we should respect this fact, or risk losing our souls to the mother-f*cker. |
