I totally agree with everyone who says that this song is about someone who is in love with someone, but then falls for someone new. Right now, this is my anthem. "Give my gun away when it's loaded" - to me, is the he/she is giving away to both people, but "if you don't shoot, how am I supposed to hold it?" - this part is the other person saying, "How can I love you fully if you don't offer your love only to me and not anyone else?" And finally, at the end of the song, this kind of loving is not alright. Both people can't be entirely happy. This song brings me to tears each time. |

My boyfriend and I are five years apart. It bothers a lot of people. Some people know, while others have been kept in the dark of our relationship. I think that this song is about a relationship where two people met and everything was right at the beginning. Their relationship just kind of took off, without them really knowing what was going on. "Did you know what you were doing? Did you know? Their relationship grows, until suddenly they realize the truth. The truth being the fact that their relationship is so close, but between themselves, they are so far away. I use this song to relate to something I'm now in. It describes everything perfectly. |
