The Smiths – Rusholme Ruffians Lyrics 21 years ago
A great Smiths song, and not yet commented on!

Oh the shock and horror of it all...

As i said on the badly named 'Marie's the name' thread...i feel its morrissey, that awkward Manchester (Rusholme is in Manchester [home to the famous curry mile]) boy going to a fair. He doesn't belong there in that vulgar place, but oh gosh doesn't he get a secret thrill from it. That sort of feeling crops up regularly in Morrissey's solo work, with his love of the ruffian/teddy boy etc.

Reminds me of a friend of mine

The Smiths – (Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame Lyrics 21 years ago
All correct up to the last paragraph shastings, for me its not about death, its morrissey descibing the thrill he felt as an awkward boy at a fair (in rusholme, manchester) he doesn't belong there, but the brashness of it all excites him

The Smiths – Jeane Lyrics 21 years ago
A masterpiece, the Sandie Shaw version is possibly the best song ever put to tape.

Although an early song it is probably Morrissey's best for encapsulating that kitchen-sink-drama he is (or was at the time of the smiths) enthraled with. The whole Shelagh Delaney thing (where he steals many lyrics from)

Anyhow, i love this song, as jemaeux says it is a well hidden secret.

The Sandie Shaw version should be downloaded by any music fan, smiths fans who dont own it are being cheated

The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics 21 years ago
hap - penis is a warm gun

my textiles teacher pointed that out to me

but i think its just a funny coincidence, as the magazine article is generally accepted to be the explanation for that section of the song.

correct me if im wrong, but isnt lennon on record somewhere saying its three different 'songs'/elements cobbled together? The version on anthology 3 deffinatly points towards this as the happiness is a warm gun section doesnt even exist yet.

.xXx.
