To me the song is an exploration and then explaination of the nature of existence and who has made it. To me it seems like Anthony is saying that we are not the primary creators of our existence. He wants to find the "orgin" and it's certainly plausible that this origin is God, but I have an alternate explanation. The line "There are cities buried underneath our cities" suggests that our reality, our existence is part of the ever going process of history. I think of Carl Jung when reading this line because of his idea of the Collective Unconscious in which we all, as humans, share certain motives, fears, urges, and potentialities that we inherit by being human. We as people leave behind a wealth of psychological information that seems to accumulate as time progresses. I'm not saying this is absolutely true, but it does seem that this song touches on it. We are not the only creators of our world, but everything creates the world in this present moment, especially our past. Our societies and creations are all from joint efforts of past, present, and future, and it is in this that existence finds its "origin", in the collective works of all people, animals, plants, and the eternal passage of time itself. That said the "hand" mentioned in the song can easily be interpreted as God, but for some reason that seems to obvious of an answer to me. Hmmm hopefully Anthony will elaborate more on this song one day! |

I agree with steve. This song is most definitely about sex. It seems like he's been battling about whether or not to have sex. "It makes a man out of me You take the fun out of me" This line makes me think of the media's influence on sex-"it makes men out of boys" kind of idea. Also the 2nd line sounds like a response to his parents discouraging sex. In the end he realizes that sex wasn't what it was propped up to be, and it makes him feel hollow inside(he obviously disappointed with himself to some degree, but exactly why is debateable) Overall a great song. Reminds me of "Sic Transit Gloria" by brandnew. Somewhat reminds me, of course they're not exactly the same, but very similar subject matter. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Someday You Will Be Loved Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this song is about a guy who truely loved and appreciated a girl. Though he was thankful for her, she still wasn't right for him for some reason or another. It is extremely hard for him to let her go, but in the end it is what must be done. To a certain degree he will always love her, and so he does by singing that she will be loved one day. He knows this for sure because he has loved her so much....but either because of personality reasons or big life choices he couldn't be with her forever. | |

| Sounds like he has a bad relationship with his mom possibly. Just speculation. It's really hard to tell with these personal lyrics. | |
| Neutral Milk Hotel – Song Against Sex Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song is definitely about how sex can be mistreated and perverted. Drugs completely ruin the whole meaning of sex, which is an act of love and gift. People today say they "love sex", but really all they love is themselves. Sex is not selfish and i think that is the main point of this song. | |

yea this song is definitely about the objectification of women. it rings so true to. and it also is commenting on society's major role in this perversion. "we sit back like they taught us we keep quiet like they taught us he just wants to prove she does nothing to remove it we don't want anyone to mind us so we play the roles that they assigned us" society tells us that this is right, that this is normal, when in reallity it's really sad. this all roots back to thinking of the self as numero uno. we don't care about the girl, we just care about our own pleasure. i kno many ppl like this and i can confidently say that none of them are truely happy. the guy might be physically screwing over the girl, but he's also comitining a mental rape to her and himself as well. don't just listen to this song. realize the truth in it so that you may save yourself from yourself. |

| P.O.D. – Abortion Is Murder Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Yes POD is a Christian band, and in a way as Christians they have a responsibliity to spread the truth. To them it would be wrong not to say tell their beliefs to the world. People say they don't want to shove religion down other peoples' throats, but when you know the truth about something, like POD obviously does in this song, then it can't just stay inside. And for all the Christians out their take a look at what POD does in their ACTIONS. Don't let this song just slide away in your memory. ACT upon it, go protest at abortion clinics, talk to girls that u know might be having an abortion. anything, just don't NOT ACT. | |
| Evanescence – Bring Me To Life Lyrics | 21 years ago |

this is a very deep and emotional song. i mean come on its pretty obvious "All of this sight I can't believe I couldn't see Kept in the dark but you were there in front of me She saying to God how unbelievingly blind she has been to not see Him. Yes i am a Christian and its good to hear songs like this, directly refering to God, because he is the true reason to live, to be brought to life as said in the song. I'm sure there are alot of songs out there that you have heard, but you have never listened to. Listen to "alive" by POD. even agnostics like "tool" and "apc" have really deep spiritual meanings. they don't believe in God, but they know something so they make incredible music. lol sorry i'm rambling. peace |

| Tool – Aenema Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Well i'd say lateralus is Tool's best song, but when a band is able to put out so many great songs its hard to decide. To me there is alot of truth in this song. Spiritually the world is goin down the shiter with porn, violence, and all this bullshit we call entertainment. I mean where is the line drawn? Oh well. At least there are some that understand how screwed up the world is. The world where people are looked down upon for beliveing in God and the world where spirituality is laughed at. I'm really tired of it. To me some adults are just to scared to see the truth. Life is fine when you're happy with your plastic girlfriends and expensive cell phones. "Stupid shit, Silly shit, Stupid shit" |

| A Perfect Circle – Blue Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| To me Barry Homes is right. The smoke in the song is to say that he(maynard) wants to remain ignorant of what is happening to the girl. I almost possitive that this is right because alot of songs written by Maynard say that being ignorant is better than knowing the truth. | |

I'd love to put my interpretation down but Madson4562 wrote a flawless one. Exactly what it means. It's toward the begining of the post, but trust me its worth reading. It amazes sometimes. Tool and Maynard puts things down in music that every person feels at some point and makes it beautiful. Some songs i don't really like because of lyrical content, but this song I do. Its probably one of the best individual songs out period. So much is felt and experienced in this one song, it'll take a while before i will complete understand it by going through all of my own experieces in my life. The biggest point in this song is the combination of phsyical life and spiritual life. To me this is a necessity to live. Without a spiritual life, then what is there to live for. We are all people, imperfect and unholy as ever, but with that higher being, with God there are answers. You just have to open yourself to the answers, and of course all the answers come from God. Its not easy to let go of your pride or sense of superiority, but in all reality this life is just the begining of something greater. Let go, spiral out, and see where it will lead you. |

Well before i had "Stay Where You Are", the CD this song is on, i had only heard a few STD songs. I've read alot of responses to this song about how you shouldn't like STD just for this song, but i don't even watch MTV so i didn't even know they were on it, and this song was my favorite on the CD. And even if i did watch MTV i'd still like this song. Just because a song is popular doesn't mean you can't like it. i'm sorry, but that's bullshit. If you like something you'll stand up for it because you like it for the right reasons. People who say they don't like a band that they had once like just because the band has experienced some success are so full of crap. I'm not saying follow the crowd, but what people are doin now by diliberately not following the crowd is pretty much the same thing. Great song. |

| A Perfect Circle – Freedom of Choice Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
"In ancient rome, There was a pawn, Who fought along, And watched it fall. He cast a stone, He felt secure, He thought that he Would never be heard" I think that maynard is alluding to Pontious Pilot. He's roman and he did cast the stone to crusify Jesus. He also thought that his decision wouldn't make a difference because the pharisee would have their way no matter what. This is just a guess, but apc does use alot of religious questioning in their songs so this wouldn't surprise me. i really don't know where it goes though so please comment on this. |
