Mimik - well said. I completely agree. Without the Darkness, we couldn't recognise the Light. Yes, she was 'a monster.' But in the right circumstances, you could have been worse. "There, but for the grace of God, goes you." And BTW, don't just jump to Hitler all the time when you need an example of evil. For the most part, and at least in the early years, he did a lot. Brought Germany out of a real slump. All leaders are the antichrist to their enemies.
It IS a beautiful song. Musically and lyrically, most of Cradle's songs could easily be read out as poetry without problems. Anyway, if you're offended by this, why the hell are you listening to them? |

...I love the way everyone comes out of the woodwork to attack a cover of a 'classic' song. OK, you think it's nowhere near as good as the original - fine. Does it try to be? Listen to them both: the original is optimistic, and tells us all to join together to make the world a better place; APC's version, as has already been said, reflects the society we live in. Wars, famine, death... Optimism is nice, but it sure as hell doesn't save any lives, or change anything. Maynard's version is more pessimistic, because he's a more pessimistic version than Lennon was, and he lives in a world that could end at any moment at the push of a button, where millionss of people die from lack of food and water... and where America still sticks its nose in the wrong place. The song sounds different? Times change. Music changes. Anyway, who the hell wants to listen to an exact copy of Lennon's? Just get the original. APC didn't HAVE to cover this song, they did it because its so famous, and needed updating to reflect the world we live in. I'm glad it was. |
