Radiohead – A Wolf at the Door (It Girl. Rag Doll) Lyrics 20 years ago
I have no idea what Tom meant with these lyrics but to me they are about American society. I think we can all agree that this song is describing a persons feelings after they got the shit beat out of them and the paranio that can go along with that after the fact. However, this song can be interpreted as being about people in America. It is a stereotype that the rich (republicans) are often paranoid considering the NRA and all that type of stuff(this is not necesarily true, but it is a stereotype). So yeah...American Society on different levels, in this song,
k bye

Simon and Garfunkel – Homeward Bound Lyrics 20 years ago
Ghad, that song is so much more meaningful than someone missing their warm beds and pets. To me it is about deep longing and desire for some kind of escape from the loneliness and solitude that all people feel at times. In times of strife or isolation we tend to hark back upon the past and yearn for a time when we were happy. However, that place can never come back in the form that it was once in, but we can’t help wanting it, however silly it may be to:

Tonight I'll sing my songs again,
I'll play the game and pretend.
But all my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity
Like emptiness in harmony I need someone to comfort me.

To me that is the best part of the entire song. I think that wishing for something that is foolish to wish for and then looking back and feeling weak is an universal feeling.
What a great song.

Supertramp – The Logical Song Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about how as a society we have all sort of settled in, gotten comfortable and stopped progressing. People have gotten into the habit of being content with simple, boring, unchanging lives. Then they get stuck being cynical but respectable. People also have stopped asking deep questions for fear of sounding absurd. I think the growing trend in American politics of embracing fundamental Christian values is a good example of what this song may mean. People find it easier to stop asking questions and being unwilling to learn more because they think they are as content as they will ever be. Some people find a happy place and then refuse to change, and any hint of change makes them go hay wire…sorry if this rant makes no sense.

Tom Petty – Time To Move On Lyrics 21 years ago
Broken skyline, which way to love land
Which way to something better
Which way to forgiveness
Which way do I go

This stanza really speaks to me, it has the same sort of tone to me as Wildflowers. To me it means to find that inner peace, forgive myself and others. It is time to move on but which way do I go? After being caught up in something for long enough and breaking away from it its hard to figure out how to move on, and which way to turn.

This isn't what John meant at all, but isn't all that is important in the meaning what you learn from it? I dunno , it reminds me of free experssion. You can be, do, feel, see, play anything anyway you want. Don't let societal rules hold you back from being you...yeah that isn't what it means at all, but its a nice thought right?

Tom Petty – Yer So Bad Lyrics 21 years ago
I have a special place in my heart for this song. There is so much you can get out of it just depending on your mood. To me it is about having someone there to help you ignore the superficialities in life. We all nead companions, who can relate, its comfort, it is savior.

Simon and Garfunkel – The Sound of Silence Lyrics 21 years ago
I adore this song. "Fools," said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

That is probably my favorite stanza because it is showing that people really don't care about learning new things. They stick with what is familiar, and what they know and are comfortable with. This stantza seems to be expressing some sort sadness for this instinct to embrace only the familiar. Paul Simon is truly an inspiration.

I want to always be learning and growing. I want to hold onto the idea of myth, change, and creativity...that is what this song is to me.

Radiohead – No Surprises Lyrics 21 years ago
It seems to me that this song is about just settling. I think particularly relates to the baby boomer's in the fact that they used to live exciting lives where they sought after change and improvement, but now they have come to face the reality of life, however unappetizing it is. It is about all of the people who choose to live successfully without great risk...without surprises or alarms in order to have the American view of success (Such a pretty house, such a pretty garden). This song reminds me of the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, people with hearts filled up like landfills...filled with toxic waste and garbage.
