i think he meets a girl at a party who he really likes, but he blows her off when she tells him her name because hes heard stupid rumors about her. the song is him begging for a second chance because he realizes how dumb that was... But heaven ain't close in a place like this Anything goes but don't blink you might miss this is,i think, the best line of the whole song. it means that you should always take chances and not be afraid of right/wrong or what people are going to think of you, becuase you might miss out of something awesome. this goes for meeting someone at a club or dating someone you dont tihnk you should date,etc. |

blueboy, i like what you said because i feel the same way... ive been in a similar situation, but I feel like it should be the married person singing it to the person they were cheating with (or their spouse i guess, but having been the other woman...) the other man/woman was just an innocent bystander who got hurt because of the problems of the married couple...and the cheater is apologizing and saying I;m sorry i hurt you, you had nothing to do with this, did nothing to deserve this, etc. |

my interpretation of what this song means...based of course on some personal experience. this song strikes me as this. she is friends with a guy, whom she obviously has feelings for. she is perhaps way younger than this guy. we dont know if anything ever happened with them or not, and that part is almost irrelevant. but this guy is in a bad relationship that he comes to her about all the time, and he has relationship issues that are way over her head, pain and angst and things she has never experienced. but he leans on her and all the while its breaking her heart because she wants him and he has too many issues |

two thoughts.... one, it almost sounds like the girl was a prostitute. whether he fell in love with her or not is irrelevant, but it was a decision made in the heat of the moment that he regretted. two...i totally agree with what everyone else has said about how he loves someone who doesnt love him back, but the song is written so loosely it could almost be the opposite too...as in he knows that it is wrong to do whatever he did with the girl because it is leading her on, but he got into it at the heat of the moment. well, it probably still makes more sense the other way. it could also be about a physical relationship that interferes with (or was constructed with the idea of benefitting) work, and now hes realizing he is in a very sticky situation. anyway, amazing song...leave more comments.... i absoultely love the line "i should have walked away" |

| im not sure this song has an overly deep meaning, but i like the comment about how everyone finds him offensive. the first time i heard it, i thought that the whole second verse talking about "whos to say whats fair to say, is it gay..." was a comment on the ongoing political debate on gay marriage...hes saying that its a hard thing to draw a line on what is legal sexual behavior and what isnt (and republicans are as usual, being closed minded, ridiculous and unreasonable) the current debate and policy on gay marriage certainly is "offensive" to a lot of people, but you dont hear anyone bashing politicians...instead politicians blame all of societys problems on rap music like this. i agree with the political ideas actually,and the virginity thing has crossed my mind more than once. however, the FIRST timei heard this song, it seemed to me like it could have been a father (the daddy) singing to his daughter-and speaking of himself in third person-trying to explain to her why he was leaving her mother and their life in their small, unblemished town. he knows that his doing this will be the end of his daughers innocence, so he takes her out somewhere beautiful and pure to savor that moment with her |

the religious theme occurred to me too....that God loves everyone, and it certainly fits with the nature references. it also reminds me of some relationships/friendships that dont seem to make sense to everyone but the people involved...societal norms say they should not be together and while others dont understand why the two people love each other, it doesnt matter because they are not changing it. |

first of all, this is my absolute favorite song...ever. this song is incredibly deep for eminem, and i think it reaches just about everyone, because everyone is struggling to make at least one aspect of their life better....and it could remind us of work, a relationship, money, something material....anything. and rather than bemoaning what he DOESNT have, this song says that you need to fight for what you want right now...a very upbeat message. my absolute favorite song to run to...the best line has got to be "another day the monotonies gotten me to the point where im like a snail i got to formulate a plot success is my only mothafuckin option, failures not..." |

it reminds me of summer relationships. whether its a romantic relationship or even just a friendship. the singer is basically saying to the friend, things have been great with us being friends while everything was great and easy in our lives. but when things get hard, are you still going to think im cool? (if i go crazy will you still call me superman) but ends, or begins rather by telling them that even though this was just supposed to be a temporary relationship, they ended up meaning the world to the singer (i really dont mind what happens now and then, as long as you'll be my friend at the end) sort of reminds me of my friends that i worked with every summer...just casual friends during high school but when we all went to college, we grew to be the best friends the others have ever had. |

here's my, obviously biased, two cents.... the first time i heard this song was on smallville. clark and lana, two of the main characters, obviously like each other a lot but they are just friends. They lived next door for many years but hardly even spoke (i could have passed you on the street with saying a word) so basically the song is about being in love with someone who you are just friends or acquaintances with and waiting/steeling yourself to take the risk to tell them how you feel. and in my life, i had a guy who i have been "just friends" with for years that it is obvious that we are more than that. i had been waiting for the opportune time to tell him exactly how i felt and what i wanted out of it...and i decided to wait until after spring break (let us have our last little fun, right?). but then he came back from spring break completely in love with another girl....he got "caught in the sun" :( |
