| Daniel Johnston – True Love Will Find You In The End Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| beautiful. | |
| Bright Eyes – Tereza and Tomas Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i love this song. unfortunately, it has a 20-something minute gap of silence before a hidden track. making it difficult to put on mix cd's. |
|
| Death from Above 1979 – Black History Month Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i always thought this song was about pre-teens who get down when no one's looking. you know. they sip their dad's bud and laugh a lot while swallowing weed roots. or something. PARTY NAKED |

i always thought this might be about lesbians. i thought this whole cd might be about lesbians. who knows. CHAN DOEZ |

| Cursive – Dispenser Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this song is about the suckiest girl you've never met | |
| Cursive – Icebreakers Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| so intriguing. | |
| Cursive – A Disruption in the Normal Swing of Things Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i can't believe no one's commented on this song. it's by far my favorite cursive song. no doubt that 'the difference between houses and homes' was a grade-A cd of 2005, despite everything being from so long ago. this song always hit me because of the catchy hook when the song immediately gets underway. the scream at the end is wrenching. perfect mixtape fodder. what is it about? life's daily tragedies. and how you might be better off ignoring them. |

| Broken Social Scene – Superconnected Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| the echoed vocals and complete chaos of this song are completely awesome. | |
| Tilly and the Wall – The Ice Storm, Big Gust, and You Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
fuck 'nights of the living dead' this is tilly & the wall's best song it's message about simply loving and staying happy in the faces of aversity is the whole reason why i find myself drawn to the band in the first place. sure, it's not SELF-DESTRUCTIVE and MAUDLIN, so it can't be a masterpiece. tilly and the wall is about love. get over it. |

| Bright Eyes – A Song to Pass the Time Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
it's a middle of the roads after 'fevers & mirrors'. f&m is easily the toughest, most wrenching CD that bright eyes has offered us. no song provides you with that warm sense that "i'm wide awake" and "lifted" offer freely. every song may have its beautiful, happy moments, but there's nothing to lift you. every song ends on a sour note. a hopeless note. a self-depricating quip. or a plea for help. and after all this, what's left? an artist's grocery list of observations, the real facts behind all those metaphors and musical let downs. this is conor trying to reach some sort of affirmation. the whole exhausting cd, though brilliant, is like a fever. you just sit with it, and when it's over, things are supposed to be better. but all that's left besides that fever is a mirror. that we'll look into, and only see ourselves, the bare facts: the things we don't want our latest interest to know, the weaknesses we find in our own dialect, the lives more depressing than ours and, also, the lives more joyous. his words are laughing at him. because they're not him, not anymore. |

| Broken Social Scene – Backyards Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| the most perfect song these ears have ever, ever heard. | |
| Broken Social Scene – Swimmers Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
ahaha. the song's kinda gross if you think about in the context of head. anyway. i originally saw this song as a girl who's obsessed beyond belief with her new boyfriend who couldn't give two shits about her. in my mind, i pretended it was the sequel to "anthems for a seventeen-year-old girl," mostly because in the booklet for the cd, the other title for this song was "anthems for a 21-year-old boy". oh well. it's sad to think that the romantic girl from two albums ago now finds herself in a one-sided relationship with a boy who's never around. |
|
| Broken Social Scene – All My Friends Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i used to think this song was a ballsy beg from broken social scene for all their friends to slow the hell down with getting big, with the stars & metric references after all. mostly because i thought the line was "may i request that you slow down?" either way, it's still an amazing tune, rivaling the most powerful, epic numbers BSS can offer, despite being their most stripped-down song | |
| Tilly and the Wall – Let It Rain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| well. if nick wrote it, i'm very certain it's about homosexuality. because while derek and jamie are engaged, nick is openly gay. he dated the lead singer of now it's overhead. that.. andy guy. | |
| Radiohead – Idioteque Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
the best songs i've encountered are never important lyrically. it's the way the music feels to me that decides if i like a song or not. and this song hits me like a load of bricks, plunging me somewhere that i shouldn't be. images of burning buildings and some terrific invasion of an unstoppable monster come to my mind. it is a positively chilling song, lyrics or not. |

| Wilco – How To Fight Loneliness Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| & i don't think martha stewart is that dumb. this song is actually relaxing... just in a very melancholy way. | |
| Wilco – How To Fight Loneliness Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| the saddest song these ears have ever heard. | |
| My America Is Watching Tigers Die – II: 4,053,900 Lyrics | 20 years ago |

oh, my america! how you entertain me so. i think this is my favorite song. but i don't know the titles. so. i'm just guessing here. |
|
| Bright Eyes – The Awful Sweetness of Escaping Sweat Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
a pained voice singing about first love and youthful desperation. beautiful. tragic. conor also uses the sweat/wine comparison in another one of my favorite bright eyes songs, "a poetic retelling of an unfortunate seduction". conor writes youthful desperation well. just look at neely o'hara or amy in the white coat, both arguably the best bright eyes has to offer. -xo, tyler. |

| Superchunk – Detroit Has a Skyline Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i can't believe no one's commented on this song yet. it's amazing. i've only heard the version on "cup of sand," but ever since the first listening, i'm blown away by the emotion of the lead singer's voice as he rants these simplistic, begging lyrics to his audience. it's pretty self-explanatory; it's about fucking up a relationship (possibly due to chasing after another person you thought was worth it) but wanting to get back together and try to work things out. i'm just now getting into superchunk. and i likes what i hears. -xo, tyler. |
|
| Cat Power – Mr. Gallo Lyrics | 20 years ago |

this song is about vincent gallo. he and chan dated for some time. all those galo's should be spelled gallo. -xo, t. |
|
| Tilly and the Wall – Let It Rain Lyrics | 20 years ago |

and perhaps the storm metaphor is for the realization of homosexuality? -xo, t. |
|
| Tilly and the Wall – Let It Rain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
in my opinion, this song is about the relationship between nick (keyboardist of tilly) and derek (male singer of tilly). i mean. i think something is going on between them. they both are from georgia and moved to omaha together. and this song talks about driving down south to meet their families. i don't know. maybe i'm just fantasizing. -xo, t. |
|
| Tilly and the Wall – I Always Knew Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i like to think this is about neely (of this band) and conor oberst (of bright eyes fame)'s relationship. a lot of his songs are about her in one way or another. and the line "a lullaby won't change my mind/ and i won't ever go back to that." -xo, t. |
|
| Bright Eyes – Poison Oak Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| this song is life-saving and tragic all at the same time. i was under the belief with luckymonkey that this song was about colin. anyway. i heard it live at the philly show, and i'll tell you, it was amazing. it broke my heart to hear him singing it. | |
| Franz Ferdinand – Michael Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
i'm gay and all this politickin' is lame. it's a fun song. end. |
|
| Tilly and the Wall – Nights of the Living Dead Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
i think it's pretty much about how irreverant and useless youth is but at the same time how prevential and lively it is when you're young. plus, i mean, it's just got groovy lyrics. p.s. their keyboardist totally pinched my ass! whoa! |
|
| Broken Social Scene – Backyards Lyrics | 21 years ago |

this song. irreverant. beautiful. life-saving. tragic. i've written an entire screenplay based around it. <3 broken social scene. |
|
| Bright Eyes – Take It Easy (Love Nothing) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
i'm pretty sure this is sort of a flashback to a long time ago in conor's past, what with the "were," and all. the lyrics also give the idea of an older woman. but i think the resolution of the song is more than just hurting girls: "and i must have looked like a ghost, because something fightened me. and since then i've been so good at vanishing." i think that maybe this entire experience way back when sort of scarred him, and he's been the way he is since then. i'm not saying conor is one depressive fussbucket, it's well recorded that he doesn't weep all the time. but, i think this might be about an event that put his rough times in progress. i, for one, love finding out the history of this man from his songs, and i'm hoping that the next two albums tell me a little bit more about him. his music is wonderful, he's incredibly attractive, and he's an amazing character. and, on the topic of bandwagon. i have a theory. if the artist takes the actions to be heard by "teenyboppers" (i hate that word), then i support what's going on. putting your song own song on the o.c., such as death cab has, is an act of your own doing. and. it's selfish to not want other people to hear the music, i agree. but i won't be sharing this music with anyone who isn't important to me because this music is important to me. if they find out about bright eyes by themselves? sure, we'll sit down, listen to letting off the happiness together. but i'm certainly not going to turn that funky saddle creek up in my car, roll down the windows, and hand out burned cds of their music. |
