The Mars Volta – Cassandra Gemini Lyrics 20 years ago
Oh, I thought Frances the Mute was an extremely religious woman years ago who claimed to have seen the devil and refused to speak soon after. Perhaps i'm wrong...
and to ilikedred, i certainly expect not 'screaming', i was merely providing an opinion that i feel 4 minutes of seemingly pointless noise at the beginnings of songs (Miranda..., Frances The Mute) seems unneccesary...I am a huge Mars Volta fan, but i think they could have utilised the spaces much better; i just find the soundscapes become tedious when they are so monotonous, long and frequent.

Missy Elliott – Work It Lyrics 20 years ago
AimIbe, could it not be possible that Missy Elliott is actually venturing further than the boundaries of everyday English? The album this track is on is called 'Under Construction' - the idea of improvement, development etc.
It's rather sad that you feel music must be so constricting to be appreciated.
It is also perfectly normal to appreciate someone's art without understanding what they say; what about instrumental music where nothing is said whatsoever; would it be wrong to like that?
I think your musical opinions are naive and ignorant. Crawl back into the shall you came from...
Anyway, on the topic of this track i think it's brilliantly written; unique, innovative...Missy is a true genius and an amusing lyricist.
...and why would anybody think it was a 'Satanic message'?? She tells you right before the backwards section "put my thang down, flip it and reverse it" so of course that's what it is....i'm surprised so many people were shocked by that!

hmmm...i don't know how to feel about this track. At times it is truly extravagnt and work of an utter genius, yet at others is non-existant...
if only they had cut the bullshit with 5/6 minute periods of tedious noise, and replaced it with something more musically...worthy, shall we say? or even cut it back a little bit.
It is truly a masterpiece of an album, but i certainly agree with whoever it was that said on Deloused they limited themselves to shorter time periods and managed to make concise, earth-shattering, unique music...Frances The Mute could easily be filtered for alot of nonsense, and be covered in red pen....

The Mars Volta – Cassandra Gemini Lyrics 21 years ago
i have not leaked this album since i like to hear it first time once i've bought it on it's due date, however i want to ask people : is a 30 minute song tedious? I've never known a band to pull it off well, and large instrumental sections of 'D.I.T.C.' only seemed to work since it was telling a story...

The Kinison – You'll never guess who died Lyrics 21 years ago
self explanatory that this song appears to be about a close friend has died. "i can't describe what it's like to be sad" is evidentally grieving for their death. The rest of the song seems to be recalling encounters with this person.

If you've only heard the single, check out the album "Who Are You Listening To?", out now :)

The Mars Volta – Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt Lyrics 21 years ago
It seems that Julio committed suicide in "Televators" : "this chalk outline" - i.e. police markings, from where he landed when throwing himself into traffic, "just as he hit the ground" - it makes sense.
"who brought me here" seems to refer to his asking who has taken him to an afterlife. "Talking in its sleep again" i interpret as Julio hearing himself speak, though he is in a state of perpetual sleep (eg death). "Who turned it off" perhaps some reference to the end of life??

HurrayForSchool, i cannot enlighten you, i similarly don't know. I think there's a book written based on the concept of D.I.T.C., though i feel ashamed that i wasn't aware of it...am i forgiven for being British?

The Mars Volta – Cicatriz ESP Lyrics 21 years ago
a seutured contusion in medical terms is a stitched wound, so i'm guessing that's perhaps something to do with Julio's cuts/welts etc that were all over his arms. No idea about the anthills, and "i've lost my way" seems pretty self-explanatory...hmmm

The Mars Volta – This Apparatus Must Be Unearthed Lyrics 21 years ago
i thought "and now it won't be long" and the comment on an effigy would have been Cedric comforting Julio when he's in his coma, almost soothing him and letting him know it'll all be over soon?

i dunno, i'm probably crap at this! I wish Cedric would post some comments...

The Mars Volta – Televators Lyrics 21 years ago
i was to understand Julio threw himself into rush-hour traffic to commit suicide, not from a bridge.

anyway, fantastic song and i am SO impressed with the interpretation of the riddle. "Room coloured charlatan" i thought was Julio perhaps seeing himself as 'room-coloured' : disguised into the background, if you like; unnoticeable, and a charlatan being perhaps he began to see himself as some form of interloper of society, or fake in life?
