I agree, could easily have been a song by U2. They seem to be heading in that sort of direction, musically over the years. |

I agree with cellordore somewhat...although im not sure if he's actually talking about the dissapointment of "Selling Your Soul and Your Artistic Integritiy"...or rather "why they hadn't done it sooner?"
It's almost like he's taking a shot at the "diy ethics"
"our ideas held no water"
"we owned all the tools but didn't have the skills to make a shelf"
Im not really sure which stance he's taking but i definitely think this song covers the theme of "selling out" |

yeah i think most of the songs are linked to the album's title "we were dead before the ship even sank"....which in my opinion can be interpretted as "our relationship was dead before we officially called it off". However in both songs (spiting venom and little motel) there were moments in the relationship that were good. it was definitely a loving relationship despite the "venom". Unfortunately the ship didnt make it through the storm.
and one more thing.... i think it might be....
"cheer up baby it wasn't always quite so bad for every BIT OF VENOM that came out the antidote was had." |

great song that reminds me of the old mouse. awesome solo. it pains me to imagine what this song could be like on an independent label though. An extended solo/jam along the lines of talking shit or night on the sun would have made this song three times as good. |

My interpretation: There is no afterlife. God and Satan have fooled us into believeing there is life after death (We're the punchline to the joke they wont let us in on). In the end, we just rot, our bodies, and our minds, and our souls. |

Im pretty sure that this song is about Issac quiting coke and leaving behind the friends that didn't quit and who ended up dead (ie, the girl who has been mentioned above). At the same time he questions the afterlife.
He wanted out of the drug lifestyle, because he wants to live life, and see the things he missed out on while on drugs. He realizes the lifestyle is just a waste of time. THe only way out of it was to leave his friends behind. "you get away from me" |
