the last verse says 'take it home and fuck with it' not 'take it home and have fun with it'.. it was released the incorrect way to save trouble and controversy. |

Minerva is the name of the Roman goddess of wisdom, so i think yes it has something to do with women. i think that other songs by deftones referring to women are not in this same context.. which leads me to believe that it is possibly about women in general, as chino69 has expressed. the lyrics and style are in such a peaceful and flowing way that makes me believe that this song is about seeing women as more than humans, but 'godesses', a work of art almost.
my second theory is that this song is about being in love, and heres why. i think that the phrase "such a strange numb, it could bring back peace to the earth" is a very powerful one, and if you can think back to a time (perhaps even now) when you were in love, really in love.. and remember what that feeling was like... it was as if the world had stopped.. and nothing else mattered. i think 'it could bring back peace to the earth' is a metaphorical statement, referring to ourselves as the 'earth', and the peace we find in love and sharing love can take away everything wrong in your life. i think the 'song' referred to could possibly referring to the sirens song (that ancient greek myth of the sirens), and when whoever they were were totally captivated and in love.
ok thats my thoughts on this amazing song, hope they helped..
peace out,

the song is apparently about the death of chino's cousin from an illness (im not sure where i read this, thats why i used "apparently") and im gonna try to support this. "the ropes hang to keep us all awake" i believe is refering to the IV drips etc. the 'you' is refering to death, as if it has a life of its own, and that personification is followed on through the entire song. 'the beasts' i think refer to all of life's troubles, especially those consuming the later part of his life (the sickness and pain etc.). "I noticed what you wore to everything we spoke and more... " i think this means that death was a longed for occurance, as he so well knows 'death' and was focused on it the entire time.
well thats just what i think.. and it would certainly justify the name 'deathblow'.
regardless of what its about this is a kickass song.
peace out. |

i think it could be about any form of conformity, but personally i think its about the music industry. i think its about sellouts and music conforming to what is popular.
another possibility is that its about society's conformity. "deviance is a crime" could mean that individuality is no longer accepted in our culture.
but im not really sure.. |
