I love this song I think it is perhaps one of my favorite songs she has ever written, it is very deep and meaningful, it describes a state in a lot of people realationships fall into, in which people begin a relationship with hopes and dreams and as time goes on the magic fades away. Shakira is a genius, she begins the song with the lines, "Once upon a time" which always refers to fairytales in which people live happily ever after. She does this to describes the state of mind young couples are in, in which everythign is perfect. She then goes on to describe the couple as green and easy, fresh as limes and happy as the sunday sky. All this meaining the couple is young, filled with happiness. Shakira remembers when the couple had no worries and would do thing like stare at the ceiling while lying together, how the word stress would sound odd to them because they had no worries and how they spoke very little english to imply that they have gone very far from that time. Throughout the song shakira questions her lover and what has happened to those days. Shakira presents her relationship as one in which the things they have gone through have made them rough and jadded. Love although it exists seems to lack the magic it had before and things are no longer about dreaming but they are now grown people where they have to turn those dreams into plans so they can't live in the carefree world where they can just worry about it the next day, the world in which their hopes are now fears they will not succeed and so on and so forth. Shakira then confesses to her lover that if this situation hurts her and perhaps their current state is in someway her fault. She does this by instead of using "we" in the chorus she uses "I" This is truly one of Shakira's best songs, I know people that are in the same position described in the song will closely relate to it and love it. |

| This song talk about Shakira as a mature individual who no longer want to be hidden by an attempt to maintain an image. The opening lyrics show Shakira's confession many of her untold secrets, with the promise she will stay honest. The next lines in which she says the costume makes the clown basically says that the glamour and image she presents isn't who she was, she then begs that people will be understading and goes on to say "its your turn now to cheat on me" implying that by hiding her true nature she has in a way cheated on whoever she is doing the confession and she is accepting of the fact that there might be repercussions. The rest of the song just continue the message that she is willing to open up and show her true nature while tyring to make others understand that is is human nature to want to hide who you really are from time to time. Again Shakira succeeds to write an execellent song about human nature and not just superficial subjects as many other artist tend to do. | |

| This song is basically about the effects fame can have on human nature, and how this behavior is not that of civilized people but a more animalistic nature. Shakira goes on to say that when people see fame in someone they will try to go to any extent to be closely associated with this person, such as scratching the back of the famous person. Shakira's intent is to shelter her lover from these type of people, from all that's vain because in fact these people are just vain and not truly themselves. On top of this Shakira points out people idea that once you have achieved some sort of success people believe you have it made and there is no reason to complain, also that when famous, others are there for you but once you do fail then they are going to basically eat you alive and criticize you. Shakira want to stay close to her lover having him protect her as she protects him as well. This song is very unique as I feel not many artist go beyond the typical mushy love song, and she manages to do it while providing a great dance/rock song with spanish (as in Spain spanish) flamenco influence and jungle sounds to empower her message. | |
