This is the only song about a dog dying that gets it right. I hate to think about how my mom is going to lose her mind when our dog dies. I love the dog, but Jesus.

The Cardigans – Black Letter Day Lyrics 21 years ago
Doesn't she have a monologue in the middle of the song? About a scientist or something.

I like how a lot of their songs are about this first world despair, but they are one of the happiest poppiest bands ever. And the songs are so good!

Arcade Fire – Rebellion (Lies) Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about how hard it is to live outside what is accepted for people to do. Rebelling against the heavy, layered bulk that is proposed to us, as aphorisms or truisms, as things to live by. La resistance.

Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #2 (Laika) Lyrics 21 years ago
At the beginning of the song, the brother is going away, trying to leave his town or what people in his town think of him, trying to escape himself. But it doesn't work, as he is back in the second verse, and depleted. By the end, he has become what he doesn't want to be.

The family is a perfect narrator for this because they care for him, they see how great he once was (like Alexander the Great?) and that he has fallen. And they care for him. I think we all have a friend who is fucking up, and what we feel first is that we want them to succeed, whatever that is for them.
