I agree with the 9/11 explanation because of: "these days with the world getting colder" and the "...watch CNN" parts. It just makes sense as a continuation of city love. She's sleeping over more because of the chaos in the city. I think the covered in rain is a metaphor for the fear and shock that everyone felt at this time. I think the correct lyrics are: "Once upon almost every mornin I woke up to find her flying in Hummingbird was making blurs of Blue and rings of purple in the air All the while I was trying to keep her there Not man enough to leave Man enough to always care" I think hummingbirds are symbolic of messengers and beauty. 'Its long tongue lets it bypass the often tough and bitter outer layer to find the hidden treasures underneath.' I think the meaning of this song is that there was a girl that brought beauty into his life (first lines) and he selfishly tried to hold onto her even when he wasn't feeling her that much. And only after she left did he truly realize what he lost. |

| By starting out saying "suppose I said/I am on my best behavior," he's saying that he's kinda putting up a front for her and not (yet) comfortable revealing everything about himself. So he's asking would she (or whomever) want him when he's not himself, when his true colors are shown, all the annoyances, and the bad days. I've so been there. | |
