Thrice – Red Sky Lyrics 19 years ago
maertsnosmirc's comment made me think. Morning symbolizes life and beginning, but the whole song seems to be about an inevitable death at sea. I really don't get the last lines though about an empire of the dead. I love how the sea is refered to here as some kind of goddess or powerful being.. she whispers, she gives up her dead, the smiles. I wonder what "she" is trying to do here.. is she trying to reassure him that she will bring him to a peaceful rest as the winds tear his ship apart?

Thrice – So Strange I Remember You (Bootleg from PNC Arts Center) Lyrics 20 years ago
This version of the song compliments the lyrics MUCH better. The lyrics themselves are a true work of art, but things in this version like the organ bring the image of the 'dead cathedrals' into mind. I still never really figured out what the like about "five years in Bermuda" meant.

Dire Straits – Industrial Disease Lyrics 20 years ago
I think the reason this song has so much humor to it is because it's about how sensative people are nowadays and how "everyone seeks damages and everyone agrees." Everyone is trying to sue for everything, and Dr. Parkinson is like one of those doctors who help con artists into faking neck or back pain then sends them off. I think the two different Jesuses (ever used that word in a plural form, LoL) represent people who will fight and starve for a casue, and the other just says 'Eh, that's easy, just sue people."

Thrice – Blood Clots And Black Holes Lyrics 20 years ago
This song could be about a lot of things. Love and hate, drugs and American society. It's kinda saying how Americans will fill their blood with medications and chemicals just becuase some 'doctor' out there says says "This is medacine." I find it funny they mention the "overdose of oxygen" because it reminds me of the issue with the O-zone layer and the CO2 overload. "To be at peace would be a sin", speaking with sarcasm, because it seems as thoguh we can never stop fighting, and that we're always fighting for some belief or some god who we'd be betraying if we didn't constantly fight and kill. "Shoot it in the left eye feel it in the right side" because all these medacines and drugs don't heal us like we think they do, and all these wars affect people who want to be at peace. "No, it's not love" because he's questioning what love is (of any kind, between lovers or families, races, countries..) in such a sick world.

Thrice – The Melting Point of Wax Lyrics 20 years ago
Of course this has a literal meaning about the myth of Icarus and the wings of feathers and wax. The deeper meaning to it is obviously about breaking limits. It reminds me of how people sometimes end up loving someone too deeply then the next thing you know that person it gone. Peple will say 'Don't rely on on anyone or anything too much, you never know when you'll lose it." But then what does that mean, live your life never really caring about anything or following dreams at no cost? In the myth Icarus forgot his father's warning. In the song, the voice of reason calls after him and reminds him that he's gone too far, but he keeps climbing anyway.

Thrice – So Strange I Remember You Lyrics 20 years ago
It's weird that he's saying he saw a vision of an assasin of some kind, but at the same time warnings of death never came.

He's refering to some kind of death. Who knows if it's the death of a friend or some god... someone who he's praying to forget but keeps remembering but everyone else in the world forgets. The 'stained glass eyes' were the windows of the dead cathedrals, both things forgotten in the past. The world around him sees nothing but what's in front of them and leaving the past behind, their only memory of it a picture of the world faling apart from some camera they threw away.

This song has a bizaar transittion between the beautiful bass solo into the song. Thrice does that sometimes... but their lyrics and music are phenomenal.

The Spill Canvas – The Tide Lyrics 21 years ago
Could this song perhaps be about a neglectful relationship? The children are metaphores for different parts of it - Veronica being the fiery passionate part, Veda the blissful yet complicated one, Dade is the hidden fears, doubts, and regrets. They slowly get worse as they start growing until finally the tide, or the change, comes and goes, taking it all away. They are the children of the mother and her exlover and their lost relationship... "he wonders when his father will return, but he's not coming back, he can't udnerstand why everyone goes on breathing when true love ends." The age of 15 is before they even have the chance to experience love, and life... they are it, but don't even know what it is. So heaven's the moment in life when you actually feel alive... when the children are playing on the beach, when love is completely real, when you live for the moment.
