"Now, how I remember you How I would push my fingers through your mouth To make those muscles move That made your voice so smooth and sweet" i know it doesn't make sense, but i always thought this part was about him playing a trumpet, or some other kind of brass or woodwind instrument. |

yes, Ingenious, i also thought the "dissappointment and regret collide" part was refering a car crash. and maybe he "was searching for some legal document" because he was in this car crash. and then in his glove compartment, he finds pictures that reminds him of a past relationship. and this is insanely stupid but the lines "before the gleam of your taillights fading east to find yourself a better life" kinda reminded me of pioneers heading west in wagons to find a themselves better life, kinda leaving everything they knew behind and wandering into a great, vast unknown. |

i love the play on words with "coughing" and "coffin" ! at first i thought this song was about a relationship with a girl, but a relationship with drugs definitely also makes sense to me. and i think the line "mercury to hell" is actually a reference to roman mythology. in roman mythology, "mercury" was the name of the messenger god (also known as "hermes" in greek mythology) and he was basically supposed to guide all the souls of the dead people to the underworld. hence the line "like mercury to hell". |

i thought this song could be interpreted to be about cutting (but that's what i think about every song *sweatdrops*) "They say freak when you're singled out" - Freaking out is the response to the panic experienced when a person has been "singled out" or targeted. He's so freaked out he doesn't know what to do except to turn to self-multilation. "The red.. It filters through" - The red is a synedoche for the blood that seeps through slowly ("it filters through") from your body when you cut yourself. "So lay down" - It's basically telling that person to give up, to simply lay down, there's nothing they can do to stop themselves from feeling the pain or whatever. But my interpretation isn't consistent with the rest of the song, really. Looking at other posts, I think "the red" is more of the color to symbolize anger. |

DC does not mean Death Cab. Well, it could, but it is the abbreviation for the District of Columbia, because the title is "The DISTRICT sleeps alone tonight" But I'm still wondering, why does this song take place in DC? Why not any other city? Why not Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, or Boston? What's so important about DC? |

what do you think was the significance of making this song take place in DC as opposed to any other city? because i live really close to DC and i thought he was insulting the city for being impersonal because he feels so alienated, so like a "stranger" there. |

i definitely agree with the person above me (: i love these lines: "Can we take a ride? Get out of this place While we still have time" this is wasn't i think the lines mean, but rather the emotion that they make me feel: the desire for escape. you have this one opportunity to escape so you have to take it while you can. |

| Evanescence – Tourniquet Lyrics | 21 years ago |

"will i be denied Christ tourniquet my suicide" am i misinterpreting the syntax of the last three lines or is she calling Christ both her tourniquet and her suicide? because that's what i thought. like she was seeking Him for help but that's exactly what would cause her own self-destruction anyway. |

fat emo girls exist only because fucktards like you insult them and errode their nonexistant self-esteem and they sadly don't have the ability to ignore your degrading comments. we're straying from the topic. what this song means to me: i think it's pretty explicit. she's sad that someone's left her. not literally but on an emotional level ("though you're still with me i've been alone all along i've been alone all along"). what i find significant is the title "my immortal". she calls her significant other her "immortal", it almost elevates him to a god-like status. and it expresses huge irony: immortal means everlasting, yet this is about someone's who's left, who's quite the opposite of everlasting. i think this demonstrates beyond just amy's pain, but her cynicism and bitterness as well. |
