just to clarify, faye wong is definitely chinese. she was born in beijing and i believe she lives in hong kong. other than this song, she's released many albums (several under the pseudonym of shirley wong). she also has some films under her belt, appearing in wong kar-wai's "chungking express" and "2046," along with other films. you guys should definitely check out her other music.
anyway.
if you look at it at a non-final fantasy viewpoint, it's about that sort of love where you want to show how much you love the other person, but you just don't know how, and you feel so useless when you try to comfort them.
the chinese version of this song that's on p2p servers is really called "hong dou" or "red bean" and is not really the same thing. it's more about a long distance relationship and sending the other person a red bean (which, i'm told, symbolizes undying love), hoping for a reunion. |

even though i'm not a huge fan of eminem, i do applaud his songwriting skills. he's a wonderful storyteller and, surprisingly, is able to create such complex situations with such conflicting factors that most probably don't realize are there.

fairly self-explanatory. she feels very close to the addressed person in a pretty sexual way ("lick it, lick it"), and to keep up the closeness chooses to write him letters. there's a sense of intimacy in writing letters to people as opposed to using the telephone or computer, esp. since handwriting can reveal so much about a person's personality. |
