This is my favorite Green Day song. It's about being so lazy and bored in the summer that you masterbate all the time and don't shower or care about anything. This has got to be one of the best summer time songs ever. I love it. It's so true. |

This is THE best rock song ever. Thats all there is to it. It's a masterpiece. It's in no way overrated. I don't think it's overplayed because I only ever hear it on the radio about once a month. I wish that Page and Plant would come outand tell the world what the true meaning of it is. Over 600 posts and this discussion doesn't seem to be going anywhere. You might be pretty sure of the meaning of it but you'll never really know for sure. Religion, materialism, drugs, LOTR, satanism, a heavenly state of mind, no real meaning at all...you might have an idea but you still want to be sure cuz you know sometimes words have two meanings. Page worked on this song for far, far to long for there to be no meaning at all to it. Another reason to surport the fact that there was a true meaning to it is that the lyrics and art were printed out with the albumn. Now this normally wouldn't have been that significant, but up to this point Zeppelin hadn't printed any of the lyrics with their albumns so this shows that there is deep hidden message in the song. I suppose that it is possible for it to have 2 or 3 or 4 or even 5 meanings, but I honestly don't think it has more than 2. I'm almost positive that it's not about LOTR, although it may have been influenced by that it's much deeper than elves. It would be extremely helpful if Page and Plant could take some time off from leaving JPJ out of their tours which they name after a song he was responsible for and whoring off samples of their classics to P Diddy and explain to us the meaning of this and other metaphorical works to which only they know the true meaning. Maybe the true meaning to Stairway to Heaven is the meaning of Stairway to Heaven-that which you can never have but would love to have. Who the hell knows. I've been trying to figure it out for a long time now and I become almost positive I've figured it out until I go back to another theory. It's a vicous cycle of second guessing that I fear will never stop because no one will ever be sure that its about one specific thing and not another. From what I can tell there's not meant to be one meaning. The meaning is whatever you want it to be. It's something you have to discover on your own by sitting down, putting it on repeat, onpen up the LZ IV booklet with the lyrics inside, and listen to and read the words until you find what it is you were looking for. |

I'm pretty sure Clemth is right about the meaning of the song although after reading all these posts I'm starting to think that Joel's idea might actually be the correct one. This song has such a creepy atmosphere. Plant's vocals here send shivers down my spine. Amazing song. |

This song is so underrated. Personally I'd put it in their top 7. I think it's about dating and womanizing. If you think about it the whole song goes along with it except for the part about "Many is the word that only leaves you guessing". I still am trying to figure that out. |

This is my all-time favorite song. Great vocals, great riff, amazing rythym and tempo changes. It's about a hot chick he sees and then rejects him. The titles about the black dog running around in front of the building where the song was made. |
