Thank you Annie. You deserve a hug or a cookie or something.

Yeah I'd like to know how many actual artists come on this site and comment on the real meanings of their songs, because those would be the only valid comments on this site right? Hey, if that's the case, why do you keep comment lyrical avenger? I'll delete my account if you do!

Lyrical Avenger --

Like you said, we should probably take a hint about the lack of lyrics printed for the song -- The artists can't be expected to comment on all these sites individually, so they point things out to us in their live performances, their CD inserts, etc. Possibly, they didn't print their lyrics so we can construct our "fucking rediculous theories", because isn't that what listening to music is about? Finding some sort of meaning in a song written by someone who you otherwise may have never known or had anything in common with? I mean, if we couldn't think about the meanings of the songs to us, this site wouldn't even exist!

Think about it for a second hun.

Peace bitches.

Fall Out Boy – Sugar, We're Goin Down Lyrics 20 years ago
Dearest friends,
I appreciate your concern regarding the content of my comment, however I would like to remind you that this is, in fact, SONG MEANINGS.net. If you guys are so smart, you guys should be able to have figured out what that means by now (but judging by the mocking of my user name, which is a book by Ernest Hemingway, a man who anyone with half a literary brain would at least know of) and that is that people here have a tendency to discuss and debate song meanings. After skimming through (but admittingly, not scouring over every word) the previous 5 pages of comments I came to the conclusion that the majority of the posts were an argument between you and anyone with in a 60 mile metaphorical radius, and a debate over a lyric of the song where it is unclear if "gun" or "god" is pronounced, and thus, I made my comment. I'd like to recommend www.letsrecitemonotonousinsultsandpassgas.net to you. Enjoy.
Yours truly,
Yours Truly.

Fall Out Boy – Sugar, We're Goin Down Lyrics 20 years ago
Okay I don't know what's been said before because frankly I'm not going to read 5 pages of comments & I don't even like Fall Out Boy. I just like analyzing their lyrics.

Basically, I think it's about a boy who hooked up with a girl & really liked her, but she just let him off & is continuing to get with other guys.

"Am I more than you bargained for yet?"

He wants to be more than just a hookup.

"I’ve been dying to tell you anything you want to hear
'cause that’s just who I am this week"

He'll do anything to impress her and prove that to her.

"Lie in the grass next to the mausoleum"

A mausoleum is a grave that holds many people, I think it's metaphorical for all the guys she's been with and left. He says he's lying in the grass next to it because he doesn't just want to be one of them.

"I’m just a notch in your bedpost,
but you're just a line in a song"

Maybe the girl makes a notch in the bedpost for every guy she's slept with in that bed...my theory.

"Drop a heart, break a name"

She's just planning on dropping him when they're done.

"We’re always sleeping in, sleeping for the wrong team"

The two figurative "teams" are the Hookup & the Relationship. Typically after a hookup, you leave early, and in a relationship you might sleep in afterwards. He's sleeping in because he's for the relationship.

"We’re going down, down in an earlier round"

Dropping him before their relationship can go further

"and Sugar, we’re going down swinging"

He's not ready to leave her just yet

"I’ll be your number one with a bullet
A loaded gun complex, cock it and pull it"

He wants to be her "Number one" so much he'll take a bullet for it.

"Is this more than you bargained for yet?
Oh don't mind me I'm watching you two from the closet
wishing to be the friction in your jeans
Isn’t it messed up how I’m just dying to be him?"

While he's trying to get back with her, he's picturing her with other guys and saying how he just wants to be them.

Rest is all repeating.

The Matches – Sick Little Suicide Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is about how everyone harms themselves in one way or another, the only difference is the method; be it: smoking, starving, etc.

Makes us feel united in our division while we're dying

Comforting, and horrifying

The Used – All That I've Got Lyrics 20 years ago
it means basically "be careful what you wish for".
or, live your life in the present

The little boy is looking for "The End". "The End" is portrayed as the old man with the cool moustache. When he finally finds him, he realizes that the old man is himself, so basically he spent his whole life searching for his own death which he would've attained anyway if he'd just lived.

My take, anyway.

Blue as in colour = adjective or noun, depending on what context, but "mentioned blue" would be a noun, "blue flower" would be adjective.

Rancid – Fall Back Down Lyrics 20 years ago
The Transplants = Travis Barker of (former?) Blink, Tim Armstrong of Rancid, & "Skinhead" Rob Aston, a friend of theirs who raps on Indestructible. Great stuff check it out.

This song is just happy and fun. You can't call them sellouts for something like this man, I've been listening to Rancid quite long and anyone else who has also would notice that their sound changes often from being raw as fuck to being melodic and everywhere in between. They still have their original trademark style -- when you hear any song on this album you can tell that it's Rancid. They haven't changed their sound grossly to please the media. They have also changed a lot personally so of course their sound is going to change. PG-13? I believe about 10 minutes in the album they scream "Motherfuckers" as many times as possible in David Courtney. Classic Rancid -- they never cursed way excessively in the first place as compared to many other bands. Hell, Korn is more outwardly explicit than Rancid for crying out loud. If you guys stop liking a band because they're able to make a profit then you guys are selling the band out, not the other way around.

Pease Fuckas.

Annie,
One of your earlier comments said it might be "changing phrases" as opposed to "changing places"... When I listen to the song I hear "changing places", but if you read back on my theory, "changing phrases" would actually fit it perfectly.

This is just Lars. Vikings were nomads on the sea, most people know that. He's saying he doesn't feel at home if he's not on the sea. He's saying he's done all of these things in his life, and if you don't like it, shut your mouth. Skunxlr, I can drink to that.

My Chemical Romance – I'm Not Okay (I Promise) Lyrics 21 years ago
Okay this song is cute and all, but it really doesn't do the album justice. I had heard them before but never really got into them, and then I heard this song and it didn't encourage me to want to see them live or buy the CD. My little brother ended up getting the CD, and I must say the rest was a lot better. The video to this song is one of the best music videos I've seen, and it goes with the song, I just don't like that people judge MCR by I'm Not Okay.

As for the song meaning, I think it's more satire than actual truth. The whole music video is kind of in-your-face but also seems to be making fun of high school drama. We all know those "Oh woe is me" kids who try to commit suicide by jumping out the second floor, or whore themselves and take pictures, claim to be misunderstood, "my life sucks", etc. Hell, some of them even post messages on this very song saying "This is exactly how I feel -tear-"

Just goes to show he hit the nail on the head.

& MCR is quite mainstream. Basically every band on FUSE and MTV are. If you like a band, & you wear their T-Shirts and buy their CDs, then you're advertising them and putting money in their pocket. You WANT them to be successful until they actually do get popular, and then you disown them. You claim to be a "true" fan because you knew them first, but you're really the sellouts because you can't support them or be happy that they're doing well.

The end. Peace bitches.

My Chemical Romance – Helena Lyrics 21 years ago
Hah as I type this "I'm Not Okay" is playing on the TV. That song is everywhere.

Okay, so, while it may have been about his grandmother as far as death goes, I don't think it is entirely about her. This is my take:

The song goes backwards. It seems to be a suicide pact between the speaker (Gerard) and another person, but Gerard decided not to kill himself and not tell the other person because the other person is going to go through with it and he respects that.

This is how it moves backwards:
"Long ago
Just like the hearse you died to get in again
We are so far from you"
We just know that the person has died.

"Burning on just like a match you start to incinerate
The lives of everyone you knew
And whats the worst to take, from every heart you break (heart you break)
And like a blade you stain
Well I've been holding on tonight"
They've left many people shaken in their wake, and Gerard is just hanging in there.

"Whats the worst that I could say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight"
With the knowledge of the ending of the song, "Things are better if I stay" is talking about how Gerard has chosen not to kill himself. "What's the worst that I could say?" Is saying that he's chosen not to tell the person because they're going to kill themselves anyways, so why should he bother?

"Came a time
When every star fall brought you to tears again
We are the very hurt you sold
And whats the worst you take, from every heart you break
And like a blade you stain
Well I've been holding on tonight"
This is back to when the person is alive, and they are a wreck and just wants to die. "What's the worst you take, from every heart you take?" The person is thinking over if they will hurt anyone in their actions, and they know they will, but they'll get over it eventually.

"And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight"
He knows this person can't carry on living like this, but he still chooses to live so he's telling the person goodbye.

"Can you hear me?
Are you near me?
Can we pretend
to leave again
And meet again
When both our cars collide?"
I think this is after the person has died and he is talking to them and saying that he wanted to "leave" with them. There's regret, but he's stuck with his decision and he knows that.

Not necessarily what the song is about, but that's what I got out of it.

"When you mention blue..."

Here's a theory for you all to fight over:

What led you all to the conclusion that this was about gay sex? It's definately a sexual situation in which everything is moving very fast, but why is that homosexual? One person commented on The Used's lyrics not being "deep", but maybe you're not getting it.

"When you mention blue..."

Wonder if there's a reason they chose not to print these lyrics? Because maybe this whole song lies in the printing. Blue, blue, blue, blue, blue...

"Use a smile as a noun"

Blue = noun.

"And I think like a verb"

Blew = verb.

"When I mentioned blew, all you thought was colour."

As we know, colour is associated with homosexuality.

When Bert says "blue", all you kiddies think is "fag!". I think that may be exactly what he's getting at. Contradictions.

"Make a circle square, a rectangle curve"

When you change blue to blew, it changes from straight to gay and back. Love is love.

This song is meant to be cryptic. They even supposedely have a hidden poem in it. Make it yours, instead try to find meaning in what it means to someone else. It'll get you a lot farther.

And now, I get to talk to you guys!
The original poster of these lyrics did it as a service to you guys and as a contribution to this site. If they were wrong, fix them, don't bitch about it.
Lyric Avenger, I hope you're enjoying blowing your head off with those fireworks. I'm fourteen and a half today, thanks for asking! This site is where people can go to discuss lyrics and their meanings. There's no one single meaning that can be posted, like you were hoping. Not everything's that black and...blue!

The Used – Bulimic Lyrics 21 years ago
Oh, some more to add to my above comment:
Another drug reference: "each time I just let one slip by, I've wasted what is mine" He could be talking about downing another pill. Despite all the talk about drugs, the song seems more about a relationship to me now. Perhaps he's saying the person was like a drug, or comparing his relationship with the drug to a relationship with a person, or the person got him to try the drug, the drug destroyed their relationship, etc etc. I guess it's just one of those songs that can be applied to many situations & it's just what you make it.

My Chemical Romance – Give 'Em Hell Kid Lyrics 21 years ago
I just read the comment about it possibly being about teenage pregnancy, and it definately does work:
"Oh baby here comes the sound!
I took a train outta New Orleans and they shot me full of ephedrine.
This is how we like to do it in the murder scene.
Can we settle up the score?"
She took the train to get an abortion. Ephedrine is a drug, referring to the hospital. A lot of people say that abortion as murder. ("This is how we like to do it in the murder scene")

"If you were here,
I'd never have a fear.
So go on live your life.
But I miss you more than I did yesterday.
(You're beautiful.)"
She still has feelings for the guy, or this could even be the guy talking to her. The girl could be scared to have the abortion because she's going to get it alone, or the guy could be thinking about her because she decided she didn't want the baby.

"Well I'm a total wreck and almost every day.
Like the firing squad or the mess you made.
Well don't I look pretty walking down the street.
In the best damn dress I own? "
Guilt over the abortion or thoughts of thThis is either the guy mocking the girl, basically calling her a slut, or the girl saying that she's moved on and basically being a tease to him.

"We are, made from the sharpest things you’d say.
We are young and we don't care.
Your dreams and your hopeless hair.
We never wanted it to be this way.
For all our lives.
Do you care at all?"
They realize that they are young, and they just changed their whole lives with this relationship. They are moving on but they have grown up. They still long for eachother, but they know that it's best to live their own lives.

The Used – Bulimic Lyrics 21 years ago
This song to me seems about hurting yourself, and realizing what you're doing, and the path to recovery.
Whether it be a stressful relationship, an abusive person, a drug addiction, or an eating disorder, it's all the same path. The song does start out seeming like it is an "I'm moving on" song about a relationship that wasn't worth the trouble, but goes on to many drug references such as "a line's a dime a million times", (drugs like cocaine can be sold by the line, over and over again adds up and drains you of health and money) and "I'm coughing up my time, each drag's a drop of blood a grain, a minute of my life" (Each drag of a drug can be compared to a drop of blood in a body, a grain of sand on a beach, meaning that it's killing him but slowly, taking minutes off his life.) The title, Bulimic, refers to an eating disorder in which one throws up all the food they take in. It can be theraputic, like a cleansing of the body, but it's harmful to your overall health. All in all, it's a purging of bad feelings.

The Used – All That I've Got Lyrics 21 years ago
Okay a few things:
1. Please, STOP complaining that the new album is "softer" and "poppier" and that you don't like them any more because they're on MTV. They've been on MTV since The Taste Of Ink video, come on. You're worse than the MTV kids. This album is not softer because of his friend's death, but that could have contributed to the apparent maturing of their lyrics and music. The album is more "pop" sounding because The Used are, whether you like it or not, POPular.

2. I'm fairly sure that Bert saying this song is about his puppy woo woo is sarcasm. While I could be wrong, I believe Bert is older than 7, & has weathered much more in his life than losing his doggy.

3. This post is about the song, so I'll give you MY take on it.
"So deep, that it didn't even bleed and catch me
Off guard, red handed
Now I'm far from lonely
Asleep I still see you lying next to me
So deep that it didn't even bleed and catch me I..."
He's recieved the news that someone close to him has died. It took him suprise (caught me off guard...) & he's basically gone in a state of shock. The news hit him "so deep", that he couldn't face it (bleed). He still sees the person he's lost as "lying next to him", not facing the fact that they're gone.
"I need something else would
Someone please just give me
Hit me and knock me out
And let me go back to sleep
I can laugh
All I want inside I still am empty
So deep that it didn't even bleed and catch me I... "
People are trying to help him but he needs something else, maybe to be alone, sleep and pretend it's a dream. He's laughing around people so they think he's fine, but "inside I still am empty".
"I'll be just fine
Pretending I'm not
I'm far from lonely
And it's all that I've got"
The news still hasn't hit him, but he pretends he's sad because that's what people expect. He doesn't want to explain that he really doesn't feel loss yet. People are trying to help him all around (I'm far from lonely) No one can fill the void of the person who has gone, but his friends and the people who are helping him are "all that he's got" now.
"I guess, I remember every glance you shot me
Un-harmed, im losing weight and some body heat
I squoze so hard
I stopped your heart from beating
So deep that I didn't even scream fuck me, I.... "
The memories of this person are replaying in his head, down to "every glance you shot me". He's thinking that maybe while this person was still alive, he held on to them too tightly, that he lost them, if that makes sense. (I squoze so hard I stopped your heart from beating)

And the rest is history. So maybe it was about his friend who died. He wrote a good song about it.

Peace.
