| Miike Snow – Animal Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This interpretation might be more boring than others, but I think it's right. This song is about wanting to fuck a lot and not being able to decide if he should stay with his woman or be an animal and keep fucking a lot. He slips. |

| MGMT – Congratulations Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's about fame, but I think it's more wondering what the point of fame is and who is he doing it for? Is it to get "god"s attention? "You look down from your temple, As people endeavor to make it a story And chisel a marble word But all is lost if it's never heard" would just mean that if you create something (like music), but nobody hears it, then does it matter? "The difference is clear. You throw it in your cauldron" makes it seem even more that he's singing to some creator. "I'd rather dissolve than have you ignore me" Life, death, leaving your mark on the world, etc... Good song. |

| Enrique Iglesias – Bailamos Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This song is about being gay. | |
| The Deadly Syndrome – Eucalyptus Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song is about forgetting. | |
| Sunset Rubdown – Idiot Heart Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It's about wanting to fuck a lot of chicks. | |
| Modest Mouse – Guilty Cocker Spaniels Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Agreed about the article mishearing and thinking he said "facebook." They don't really mention pop culture junk like that. Also, I think it's "Directly behind me and ahead of the TIDE" and not "time." Hard to tell on a lot of it, you did a pretty good job. |
| Mclusky – Kkkitchens, What Were You Thinking? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't think he's over thinking it at all... It's pretty obvious it's a play on the word. He mentions race twice in the song and even says "spook" in it, which again, is a play on the racial slur. |

| The Dodos – Walking Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I thought so too, but I looked it up and it's a singer named Laura Gibson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj6eY9WcwYE Sounds a lot like her though. |
| The Dodos – The Ball Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The more I listen the more it sounds like: They're meeting on a farm, They'll start a revolution and they'll never take a BARN* no? |
| Sunset Rubdown – Winged/Wicked Things Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I always thought it was "air of ghosts" >:( I also thought it was: And the sun "were" it white and the earth "were" it thin He says a lot of words with an affect when he sings, so I still think it's possible that it's "were" and not "wore" :P |

| Modest Mouse – You'll See Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| There are a bunch of lyrics from different Modest Mouse songs in here. :D | |
| Modest Mouse – A Manic Depressive Named Laughing Boy Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Isaac doesn't mean "laughing boy" it means "laughter," which yeah... is close, but the "boy" part made it sound like that was what the title was DEFINITELY trying to say. I don't think it is though... I think it's just like a cooler way of talking about that whole "sad clown" thing. :P |
| The Beatles – She's Leaving Home Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Just because it's inspired by a true story doesn't mean it's totally and literally about it. It seems to be about suicide to me... as much as I hate suicide songs, this one is just filled with way too many allegories for suicide to not at least consider that that's what it is about. |
| Ugly Casanova – Diggin' Holes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Shit never works out the way it's supposed to... | |
| Modest Mouse – Satin in a Coffin Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Bosnia: You can't really say with any certainty whether he's saying "god I sure hope you are dead" is addressing some regular person or god. That's kind of the point of the line, it's left ambiguous for a reason. Considering that most MM lyrics are ANYTHING BUT straightforward, I'd be more willing to bet that he was saying it to "god" and not a person. Or at least trying to put that idea out there... that part of it seems intentional to me. |
| Modest Mouse – Beach Side Property Lyrics | 20 years ago |
He spells "satan" wrong and you spell "definitely" wrong.... I guess that makes me the winner. :D And Dragon, that's probably my favorite line in the song... About Corruption of money/greed fo sho! |
| The Fall of Troy – Macaulay McCulkin Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| it doesnt matter if youre black or white | |
| Modest Mouse – Make Everyone Happy/Mechanical Birds Lyrics | 20 years ago |
So, Magnolia Fan you think that this song is about robot birds? There's over-analyzing and then there's taking things way too literal. This song is not about robot birds. It's an allegory.... that's not over analyzing when it's that obvious |
| Modest Mouse – The Waydown Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I always thought it was "And if you want them out, you could just pull on the lever" This song always felt like a companion song to "Alone Down There" both of which seem to be about the road to dying, to me. |
| Modest Mouse – Dirty Fingernails Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think this is Isaac taking a brave stance against bad personal hygiene. :O |
| Modest Mouse – I Came as a Rat (Long Walk Off a Short Dock) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
He says "I don't know, but I've been told you never die and you never grow old" but that doesn't mean that's what he's trying to relay to listeners.. Firstly he was "told" this, so he's not the one saying it... but even if he were, it doesn't mean he's saying it as a truth. He's saying it as something that seems to be bullshit. A rat, a cat, it doesn't fucking matter... cuz you ain't comin back. |
| Tom Waits – Chocolate Jesus Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Chocolate is addicting and lots of people eat it like a drug to relieve stress/depression... thus, Chocolate Jesus. | |
| Modest Mouse – She Ionizes and Atomizes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
For a while there I thought he said "Shit ionizes and atomizes" in the first line... and I kinda liked it better that way. :P I wonder if that was intentional? |
| Modest Mouse – Float On Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I've always thought Float On was possibly one of the MOST cynical modest mouse songs, ever... At least, that's the way I like to interpret it. Almost as if everyone just rationalizes all the bad shit because "goodnews will work its way to all them plans," yet it never does, but "that's ok, we'll all float on." So even if the good news never comes, at least you have Heaven, right? But if you listen to enough modest mouse you know they don't seem to fall into that ideology, which is how I get that it's a big commentary on false hope and rationalizing in order to get through life. And if that's not what the song is about, well at least the album ends up being about that... I could be wrong and it could be some sappy inspiritional song, but I'm gonna stick with my interpretation anyway because it helps me cope. :P |
| Modest Mouse – Workin' on Leavin' the Livin' Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Eitherway, it's from eraserhead. But I think MM might have gotten the idea from the Pixies (and in a sense, paying homage). | |
| Modest Mouse – Workin' on Leavin' the Livin' Lyrics | 20 years ago |
There's also this little thing called paying homage... which is possibly what he's doing. He's said before that he loves the pixies, so it wouldn't suprise me if that was the case. |
| Godspeed You! Black Emperor – BBF3 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Is Bailey an actual person, though? It sounds real, but it could just be an actor reading what they wrote for him. | |
| The Mars Volta – L'Via L'Viaquez Lyrics | 20 years ago |
jrenielm you say you laughed the first time because the spanish lyrics didnt make much sense to you as a native speaker... yet their ENGLISH lyrics often don't make any sense either :P Either way, awesome song... awesome band. |
| Modest Mouse – Black Cadillacs Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I disagree with most of the first posters... this is not a song about relationsihps. One of the cool things about Modest Mouse is they don't just make stupid love songs all the time like everyone else and this isn't one either. And spoolhardy, yes, you do have a pole up your ass or else you wouldn't even say such a thing. |
| Tom Waits – Don't Go Into That Barn Lyrics | 21 years ago |
There's some errors in there and the one that stands out the most is one of my favorite lines.. you have it as "Did the Mom see you?" which should be "did the moon see you?" Also, it sounds more like "Holler: "I Know" Rather than "How did I know." As for the meaning... it sounds like it's about Slave ships to me. "Upside down barn" reference especially makes it sound like a boat rather than a literal barn. |
| Modest Mouse – Cowboy Dan Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Theres so many ways to interpret this song. Initially, I thought of Cowboy Dan as a "bad" guy and that Isaac was using Cowboy in a slanderous kind of way. Here's why: Cowboy Dan is mad at god for making him mortal, but he's not just mad... he wants to do something about it ("God if I have to die you will have to die"). It also says he's going to start a war, he fires his rifle in the sky, he gets drunk and gets mean, And says "I got mine but I want more." All of those things make him sound like an angry guy who's going to take out his anger somehow. But the song also has a whole other theme going on with the City moving to him. This could be a metaphor for saying what he's going to do was because the "city moved to him." But it could also just be about the urbanization of the country life... However, that still doesn't explain the whole being drunk and getting mean part. Anyone know of Modest Mouse themselves after talk about the meaning of any of their songs anywhere? Also, if you were to make a music video of this song.. what would it have in it? I think that might help to get closer to what the song is about. |
