Excuse me but the reason America has a 4 billion dollar deficit is because of Bush's top level taxation and millitary budget. The economy was booming during Clinton's presidency due to his trade policys that Bush has now revoked. The notion that Kerry was a 'flip-flopper' is completely generated by the predominatly right-wing media in the states. Also America should be ashamed by the amount of aid they have allocated for the Tsunami. Britain have pledged over 100 million pounds whereas America, whom are around 150 times richer than Britain have allocated a pittyful 50 million dollars. A report recently showed that that is the amount they spend in ONE NIGHT occupying Iraq. |

Holy smegma on a stick... I read about half of the posts and couldn't take any more. Did it really take everyone 183 posts to realise that YOU WILL NOT AGREE!!?? Anti Bush people: Why try and reason with supporters of a man who executed 160 people (8 of which were physically or mentally handicaped) in a 4 year term (as govenor of Texas)? Pro Bush people: I reeeeaally don't agree with you but why wind yourselves reading comments by ignorant-'fashion politics'-nambi-pambi-far-lefties??? I'm from the UK and from across the atlantic it seems that America is a country run by three groups; the media, the church and the rich. I wasn't surprised that Bush was re-elected, if you base your politics on macho charisma rather than competence and wit what do you expect to happen (hahaha do I sound like a pompus limey or what?). The whole world seems to be being taken over by dull, selfish, uneducated antagonisers of the free-thinking. What do you get if you exchange fun and quality of life for constant hard work and oppertunism? A country that has over 5000 MacDonald's Restaurantes but no Department of Culture. Man, I hate to preach but with the amount of crap that was spouted in this discussion I felt I had to comment. On the subject of Eminem, he is the greatest rapper of all time, both lyrically and musically. Anyone who thinks he is just trying to be 'in' with the lefty-celebrity crowd has clearly missed the point. He may be trying to stir things up... but if he is, good on him, he is making a brilliant song and intellegant argument whilst doing it. Now try to agree to disagree... P.S. hahahahaha Progrocker - "Its hard to enjoy music when you are a conservative/republican. Most musicians are democratic" Republicans preach of nothing but hard work and quashing individuality and you wonder why they lack creativity, you don't cool guitar riffs in stock-broaking - muppet. |

| Bob Dylan – Isis Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Isis was an egyptian Goddess. This song is about the power a woman's lure. The character in the song (dylan refers first person but i'm sure he didn't actually marry an egyptian goddess) marries Isis, then she leaves him (she was known to be a tempremental temptress). He and his partner then go to break into a tomb (a cardinal sin towards Egypt), however he 'sells out' his partner and locks in an an empty casket then "rode back to find Isis just to tell her I love her". This song is about how men can be blinded by women and go as far as to sell out their own friends for them (prehaps something that Dylan himself did). As only Bobby can, in this song he is taking common subject matter and weaving into a poetic alligorical story. |

| Bob Dylan – With God on Our Side Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
DJacques, the reason he references the holocaust is because it was a GENOCIDE! 20 million died in russia however that was due to selfishness, not the attempted extermination of an entire race and RELIGION (in case you had forgotten the song is about religion). He is commenting on the Christian docterine of repentance and forgiving - the Nazis denounced Christianity and commit crimes against humanity but Germany was instantly forgiven by the pope post 1945. And that aside, as many have pointed out to you, the song was written in 1964, a time when the true facts about Soviet crimes were held by the Soviets and the Soviets alone. In the Soviet verse he is not talking about the Soviets crimes, he is talking about the American/fundemental Christian attitude that 'God hates communism'. Oh and by the way DJacques, "That Dylan (and, evidently, you) only see Jewish deaths as worthy of recognition says quite a bit about how the American media is stacked" - I would prefer if you kept you small-minded anti-semitic views out of the discussion |

| Bob Dylan – I and I Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| yeh thats true, also it is an ode to the Rastafarian religion, he had a rasta produce for infidels and you can notice a reggae flare on many of the songs. I think he is talking about his own life and views on religion and comparing their insignificane to an arbitary example - the Rastafarian religion. | |
| Bob Dylan – Don't Think Twice, It's All Right Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I think Dylan is being cynical and tonge-in-cheek in this song. He is angry about his breakup and the way this woman has treated him and is taking out his anger. He lists all the things that she has done: Well, it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe , And it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe , You just kinda wasted my precious time , Then retorts 'don't think twice its alright'. Kinda like sarcasm, if someone were to "you stole my stuff, killed my family and broke my neck... but don't think twice its alright" you would know that things ARN'T alright. |
