this is probably gonna sound wrong but when i first heard it i thought it was about his first time having sex and how after he felt guilty.
the setting of a hotel room with holes in the curtains sounds is a cheap hotel often where teens have sex for the first time.
"she whispered "dear boy, your god is me"" this line i think is about how he isn't even thinking about what gods laws are and he just obsesses over sex about her.
"strangling lovers,
were we kidding each other
gasping for breath,
in poisonous lies"
i the first two lines are about how there relationship was going nowhere yet he had sex with her anyway. and gasping for breaths is part of the act the poisonous lines are when you say things you don't mean in the heat of passion.
I am probably wrong here but i just wanted to give an alternate idea to "Tims refutation of catholicism". |

Holden Caulfield never came close to killing himself he was just depressed throughout the book because of flunking out of prep schools and such. In fact in the last chapter he mentions how he goes to a new school the next fall. The book has nothing to do with suicide but has all to do with holding on to innocence. It is a great book if you haven't read it
