i can't believe no one's commented on this song yet. this song is so great. i think it's the cutest song ever. he's freaked out about being young, and not knowing where he's going in life, but it doesn't matter because he's got girl, man. and the second to last line is "that the birthday wish you missed me blow out" |

i feel like this is a song about how two people live apart from each other, and the singer wants to be with this girl, but she's saying no because of the distance. but he's saying basically he'll wait for her to want to be with him, and that if she comes to visit she can sleep on the floor (he's not expecting anything from her) but that he can't sleep with her so close to him and he just wants to be able to convince her to be his, and for them to be together, and forgo the distance problem. reminds me of how i feel towards this one guy, i hate long distance and i could never do it, but he's always willing to talk to me and hang out when i am where he lives. |

the chinatown bus is a super cheap bus that leaves from chinatown in NYC and goes all over the east coast. i took it once from NYC to Boston, so chances are the 95 he's talking about is from NYC to DC. also, i think this version's chorus, "i am a broken glass...etc" along with the references to NYC, Tokyo, and Shanghai symbolize (for me at least) how this person's all over the world and isn't in one place long enough to form any real connections, and is disconnecting himself from those at home (like how he can't call his friends from tokyo because it's too early still, and how he's finished his day before they've even begun theirs.) i dunno, it resonates with me, and i really enjoy this song! |

| do you think this has anything to do with hurricane katrina? i guess it's kind of a stretch, but "tesselate" means to form multiple identical shapes, so broken hearts tessellate tonight could mean that there's a lot of them. and then the "weakened water gates" meaning the weak levies (sp.?). and "the divide is clear in the coming year, the rich will take the poor" meaning how the poor people didn't get the help they needed, which was a big issue. i dunno, i just saw some similarities, love some input! | |

i agree with previous people. i think it's just mainly about how love can be bad, and how you can be extremely frustrated and annoyed with it "though i shake and shake and shake you" but still he day dreams about the person he loves "and love is the scene i render/when you catch me wide awake/and love is the dream you enter" as for the lion's mane thing, i think it means that you can't be brave "hiding in the lion's mane" because even though a lion is a symbol of bravery, if you're hiding in a part of it it doesn't mean you are too. |

i love this song. just the whole idea that like, come on, you know i'm better than that other guy. and then the bottom is so true of some people. they're just so scared that they just let it happen without doing anything, which is stupid! but yea, definately great song, great band. |
