i love this song so much, in my opinion its about kissing a girl who has a boyfriend, the same things happened to me, we both liked each other so much it was like a "crush", we didnt know what to say when we talked but it was just ..there, that feeling. we'd always go off alone from all the others, and although we could sitll hear their voices, we couldnt stop ourselfs from doing it, althoguh we knew it was wrong, it had to happen. we'd see each other every day and still fumble for the right words.. we both couldnt explain how much we were on each others minds. and then we dated, broke up and i was left broken hearted. we're best friends now and best friends means well best friends.. but i wish we were back in this song. good luck john nolan. |

| this song is about a girl who jesse dumped, and he had no reason to it just seemed teh cool thing to do at the time. its somewhat of an apology and he knows that it was the wrong move. i read an interveiw with him in Rolling Stone explaining it. | |

i think this song is about losing someone, or something, and then realising that they or it, is not as perfect as first impressions, but that does not change the fact that you still need it. the first verse obviously is somewhat reffering to the fact that we first see things upside down, but i tihnk this is more of a metaphor for ben seeing the girl he lost as not the person he thought he first met, and he confirms that she is not the same person by repeating "turns you around". If you feel discouraged When there's a lack of color here Please don't worry lover It's really bursting at the seams Absorbing everything The spectrum's A to Z in my opinion this verse is about the relationship they had, that it was becoming 'boring' for the girl and ben was trying to convince her that "it's really bursting at the seems". This is fact not fiction For the first time in years And the girls in every girlie magazine Can't make me feel any less alone this is referring to after the girl has gone, and that hes painfully realising that it was the realest thing he has felt in years, and that now that its gone, nothing can cure his lonliness. he then needs her so bad that he "slurs a plea" for her to come home, and then writes "i should have given you a reason to stay" once again touching on the matter of their relationship became boring to her and she needed more. he finishes with "this is fact not fiction for the first time in years" because he cant believe that he feels like this in reality, he hasnt just read about this in a book(fact not fiction) and he has to deal with it himself. anyway thats what it means to me, great song, great band. take it easy. |
