| Okkervil River – You Can't Hold The Hand Of A Rock And Roll Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This week's cash for last week's grass Your crew collates while you sit in the van and wait Gassed and trashed and smashed young cads roasting away On a sunny summer day (or, okay, an August night anyway) And you're living on air while on the 25th floor up there They'd fan a million bucks before your face Marie's passed out in a chair with her once fussed-over hair All mussed into an I've-just-been-fucked shape Just an hour before, she crashed, all cashed She said, "I'm done with looking back And you look your age Which is thirty-seven by the way, not twenty-eight And fucking let them stare, because at this point I don't care I have been your bride stripped bare since '98 And our silver-screen affair, it weighs less to me than air It's a gas now, it's a laugh just how several mil can take it." This week's as fast as last week's flash of interstate When you starved and never ate This week's splashed a sick, gold cast across your face As you roam, ripped tippy-toe alone through Silverlake Splayed astride a snow-white mare on a non-stop all-night tear What a ghastly sight you smear in every face In that fat, fur-trimmed affair that your lawyer lets you wear You'll destroy your chance to ever get repeatedly engaged. |

| Okkervil River – Love to a Monster Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"i hope your new man thinks of me when he sees what a number i did on you"... gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous if their next album has songs like this it'll be even better than black sheep boy. |

| Okkervil River – A Girl In Port Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this is the best i could get from the two live recordings i have...amazing song! | |
| Mary Lou Lord – His Indie World Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| one is kim gordon of sonic youth, i dont know the other two or if she's just being funny and adding more kims | |
| Jenny Lewis – You Are What You Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i'm sorry, this song would not be good without the title line, and that's ripped off from "adaptation." | |
| Elliott Smith – Stickman Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
these lyrics have a lot of errors... lots of flawed versions have been floating around but this is what i've gathered after many, many listenings of the demo and i think it's nearly completely correct I sit here shooting blanks Out of emptiness Ain’t nothing really want to kill Maybe your time I guess Sit and spin the world and its flipside And I listen backwards for meanings 'Cause i’m a stickman I live with one dimension dead Try not to think too many moves ahead I draw from memory The stillest kind of life Slide after slide You know pain's the sharpest knife Project what's done so everyone can see To me it's just a reversal And I'm a stickman Frames they go one by one If I sped it up You'd see I'm on the run From some monster off screen Killing sons Lonely makes me blue Envy turns me green Hate might paint me red If I load my magazine But not just now when it's easy to stay clean When no one sees where you're bleeding And I'm a stickman Stickman |

| Rilo Kiley – Portions for Foxes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i thought that the line "portions for foxes" had a more literal meaning: we're all going to die anyway (foxes are scavengers and will eat us up...gross, i know) so i'm going to throw caution to the wind and stay in this relationship. i like the idea of men being the foxes, though. | |
| Secret Machines – The Leaves Are Gone Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| this song's amazingly beautiful. i didn't even listen to the lyrics at first because the music was so gorgeous, but they make it even better. | |
| Pretty Girls Make Graves – All Medicated Geniuses Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| golden arm refers to drugs. frank sinatra was in "the man with the golden arm," a movie about a drug addict. | |
| Modest Mouse – Black Cadillacs Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| the opening line still amazes me. it has such a masterful evolution from quiet annoyance to outright anger. | |
| Coldplay – Warning Sign Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| reminds me of my friend mallary-we grew apart last year when she became close friends with someone grossly possessive. we knew we still loved each other (platonically of course...it's not that kind of story) but we couldn't get it together. i would listen to this and think about how much i missed her and get angry at her helplessness and my stubborness. it finally ended last april when we realized we'd both stayed up all night watching mtv2's coverage of the 10th anniversary of kurt cobain's death. we still go through rough patches, but i know i won't be quiet if we ever drift too far apart again. i don't want to miss her anymore. | |
| Jet – Look What You've Done Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| disgusting ripoff of "sexy sadie." i'd rather see them do a cover than pass it off as original work. this goes over the line from tribute to theft. | |
| My Chemical Romance – I'm Not Okay (I Promise) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
great comment on this album from spin's top albums of the year article: If the last half of self-help single “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” doesn’t give you chills, you’re either dead or over the age of 19 most of the rock i'm into isn't as hard as My Chemical Romance, but the first time I heard this song I was captured. Musical anger at its finest. |
