Nope, the openin chords are E E7 A C#7 F#m I believe the GADEC part refers to the key changes in the song. Which makes this line make more sense, because you say a song is written "IN" a certain key. So, written "IN" the letters of your name. |

Someone may have said this (i didnt wanna read 55 pages of comments)... but ill give my analysis. Ok basically, i think its about smoking marijuana. I have tons of reasons to support my claim. A stairway to heaven = a way to get high. Also, being high = heaven for some people. see what i mean. ok im gonna quote the song and then paraphrase it with my analysis "There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven. When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for. Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven. " Theres a lady who buys marijuana (way to get high), when she gets to the dealer, she knows if hes there or not. With one word (idk what the word is) she gets the stuff. "There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings. In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings, Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven. Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it makes me wonder. " Theres a sign (probably symbolically) that says "pot" , but she wants to be sure because pot has two meanings obviously. " There's a feeling I get when I look to the west, And my spirit is crying for leaving. In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees, And the voices of those who standing looking. Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it really makes me wonder. " (This part refers to the paranoia one experiences when smoking marijuana. ) When he/she looks around theyre hoping that no one is watching, and inside they really want to get out of there because theyre so afraid of getting caught. In their head they see someone blowing smoke rings in the trees. (hallucination) " And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason. And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter. " (This part refers to how people whisper when smoking, and the laughter) Im not too sure about the first 2 lines but obviously the piper refers to the person holding the pipe. Next, For those who keep smoking alot they will be in another world ("a new day will dawn") and they will be laughing ALOT. "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now, It's just a spring clean for the May queen. Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on. And it makes me wonder. " If theres something in the weed, dont worry about it, its normal. You could either choose to keep smoking or stop, you still have time to stop. "Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know, The piper's calling you to join him, Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind." Youre getting high and its going to last for a while, but someone keeps asking you to smoke more. Can you hear the smoking. Your high relies on smoking. And im not sure about the bridge. I'm gonna work on it. Tell me what you think of my analysis guys. I'd appreciate it. But yeah, this song reminds me of the way i get. When the guitar solo comes on it just hits me in the heart. Its so full of emotion (i play guitar) . So yeah thats my analysis |

I personally believe it has some references to drugs. Think about it... its probably about some crazy trip where he saw rockinghorse people eating marshmallow pies. another thing, the kaleidoscope eyes... thats definitely a psychedelic reference right there. kaleidoscopes are probably insane while high. and also, think about all the times the word "high" comes to play. first of all, the word is used, and second of all, the whole cloud reference. but i mean, it may not be about LSD, but everytime i listen to it i think of drugs. |

this song is about how business men are animals. heres the coolest part to me: "And after a while you can work on points for style, like the club tie and the firm handshake, a certain look in the eye and an easy smile. You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to, so that when thy turn their backs on you, you'll get the chance to put the knife in." ok first, points for style shows how businessmen all suck up to the boss. "club tie" is how they all try to impress with their dressings. "firm handshake" (my favorite) is a very common piece of knowledge in the business world. they say that when you are trying to make a deal with someone you give them a firm handshake. " a certain look in the eye and an easy smile." - self explanitory.... "You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to, so that when thy turn their backs on you, you'll get the chance to put the knife in." is just how businessman have to earn the trust of higher businessman who they lie to. .. this is a great song with so much meaning. definitely the best Pink Floyd album. |

im not sure, but i think that this song might be about how ozzy got kicked out of black sabbath. and hes addressing black sabbath "crazy, but thats how it goes" - ozzy is crazy, but thats just the way he is so they have to accept it. "millions of people living as foes" - many people were probably pissed because they loved ozzy. "Maybe it's not too late To learn how to love - asking them to reconsider And forget how to hate " "Mental wounds not healing Life's a bitter shame I'm going off the rails on a crazy train " - hes never gonna change .................................................. this song relates to Time alot, because in "time", he is saying that when someone is young, they do not realize what lies ahead of them, nor do they realize how fast the time will go. In this song, he is saying that insanity will also come sooner than u know it. Also, i think the album title "Dark Side of the Moon" is used as a symbol of things we are ignorant too. this is because people only see one side of the moon, due to the rate of revolution and rotation being the same (27.3 days). So the dark side of the moon refers to something that weve never seen. great song and great album |

ah the drumming in this song is just awesome. of course it is the same beat that scott always used (especially in dude ranch). but its amazing. i mean travis is a good drummer and all, but i thought that scott fit better with the band because he has a very punk style, meanwhile travis is musically trained. but anyway. its basically about a period of lonliness that people go through, and growing up. and the line "I stop to think at a wishing well My thoughts send me on a carousel" is saying how he just could wish it all away, and the carousel part is how everything used to be so fun, but hes now in the real world. "Now as I walk down the street I need a job just to sleep in sheets Buying food every once in a while But not enough to purchase a smile " this shows how life gets hard when u grow up. "school life is a It is a woken dream " the woken dream part shows how everything used to be good, but is now gone. well anyway this song relates to me so much. and i just love it. and my band does an awesome cover of it. |

i have a pretty good idea of what this song means... i think it means that he was engaged to a woman... but maybe she decided she didnt want to marry him anymore.. so now he wants her to die... alot of lines in that song give me that feeling... for example.. "I never thought it'd be this way Just me and you, we're here alone And if you stay, all I'm asking for is A thousand bodies piled up I never thought would be enough To show you just what I've been thinking " ok... ... "and if youd stay"... that means that she wanted to leave him... (which is the most awsum part)...
