about suicide? ok, there are elements of that yes. he's SCREAMING, telling everyone that he's seen something others will not. we're too afraid to look/question. *sigh*. if he/she chooses to die now, then REMEMBER what you see now in my eyes. i 'know'. btw, if you are considering suicide, please read the lyrics to 'everybody hurts' first, ok? put that damn bottle/gun/knive down now. :) |

agree with mandyblansett. can you say CHEESE!!! damn! ok, it is a 'fun' song, that is not why R.E.M. is in my top 10 list. it is, like, airline stewardess happy. hehe. no hidden/deeper meaning, so non-R.E.M. oh well. if they made 10 of these in a row, i'd scream sell-out, but it appears to be an isolated incident. |

a down-to-earth lyric about love gone bad. clinging to love with the wrong one. there is no 'right' one (mr./mrs. right), just the one that is 'right for you'. sadly, sometimes, there IS love, but between two mis-matched people. alas, the love is NOT enough sometimes in these cases. this is what he's talking about. |

meaning? cryptic. again, REM's theme is very 'meta' - can't quite put 'it' into words. somehow though i disagree with the jumping out the window with the child comment. yogaboat, explain? we have these words: belong, freedom, calm, whisper. doesn't sound suicidal to me. more like a 'becoming one' theme. no? |

simple. to be or not to be (shakespeare) - grr did i spell that right hehe. 'choose life' watch trainspotting. heh;) ok tangential enough for you. succinctly, don't kill yourself. when you figure 'it' out, perhaps it's too much, but hang on. if for nothing more than to have a couple of laughs along the way, no? |

1st, give up the ollie north thing. he was a scapegoat anyway. here: Olly olly in-come-free, used in children’s games to signal that the game is over or that the main player has given up hope of winning. ever played hide n go seek? u are 'it', you give up. you shout ollie ollie all come free, (or ollie ollie oxen free, same thing.) it is about giving up on the game of life. not suicide, mind you, in particular. just giving up on the 'game' part. compare/contrast with john lennon's 'watching the wheels' |

it means: it's all the same, day, night, experience inbetween - high and low... love is thrown in there as the thing that normally 'explains' everything - it was 'all for love?!?' well, ok. you have a cyclic song here, birth, life, death. and, everything inbetween. it's about the human experience. he touches on time. time. meditate on that one, it will trip you out. rem has some enigmatic songs, this is one of them. he's howling at the moon. is he mad? are you? |

rivers and oceans are vivid and common imagry in poetry/songs/literature. the ocean is the river's goal... individual consciousness is like a drop of water in an infinite sea that is god. i don't think i'm reading too much into this. watch, enjoy, memorize, you have your experience NOW. later, you will merge. me9m7wv02 is my mail at sneakemail --=com |
