I thought the sex metaphor was too easily come across so whether I dug too deeply or not I found the mentioning of casual sex to just be more support for this songs true meaning, willful ignorance. They are ignorant in the belief that sex and drugs will fix everything "Phantom of the opera" Behind a mask... hiding from the truth of who they are "Lanturn you blow out first" in the dark... repeat meaning of the phantom The use of the word bell curve, the theory that humanity is on basically filled with a lot of average people and few idiots and genius's suggests he's trying to forget this with drugs... ex: "strap my face to a homemade bomb, strength from inhalers" Holding your breath is generally equated with hoping for a better outcome, thus the phrase "don't hold your breath" "My hero's made of plastic" this line is the strongest support for a sex metaphor but plastic can also be interpreted as fake... or hiding. Besides... if it was a sex metaphor the "now he's dead" part is a stretch, it doesn't fit with simply throwing a condom away.... yeah.. that was quite a bit of typing |

The wedding metaphor makes sense... especially with the liberal use of skeletons as a theme. Who hasn't heard the saying "skeleton in your closet"? "curtains of hair" Hiding behind vanity... many people's vanity is presented through their hair... "Peacock mask"' Outward beauty disguising a distasteful inside. "man striped up... guest gowns" These lyrics make the wedding theme more evident |

The falsity of most feeling is addressed "a bucket of popcorn for the cemetary" and the title reveals a more obvious feeling of what else but shame.
