Regina Spektor – Oedipus Lyrics 19 years ago
goodness it has been along time since i have been here... regina has gotten much bigger

but to the one who said that it does have to do with the play in direct respnse to my statement... i was being as honest in my interpretation as possible. there are numerous paths one could take in analyzing regina.

Your reasons for why they relate, and your relay of the plot of the play is all off. the parents of pedipus exposed him- they were trying to kill him, not giving him away, and the most important thing in the prophecy would have been the fact that he was to kill his father, not marrying his mother (or 'bonking').

the points which this does not directly relate are vast.

like mentioned before... the number of children....

goodness, going over this again, it would be rediculous to point out everything thbat is not concurrent with the play. i am VERY familiar with the play. productions, research papers, even reading it! who would have guessed.

regina's samson could easier be said to be directly about the story from the bible than this from the play. she sets up allusions that support her writing in a way which works- helps her story along.

Regina Spektor – Bobbing for Apples Lyrics 19 years ago
i think i is quite plausably miss nicky-tine.. or something like that. Seeing the vice in the things it follows i think nicotine, with an annunciated twist, would make tons of sense.

any opinions?

Regina Spektor – Oedipus Lyrics 20 years ago
this song has fairly little to do witht he actual play oedipus rex. the song is of an alienated person lost in a crowd believing hoping that someday they will mean something too. the oedipus redferences are there in order to show the extents that some imagination can go to in fantasizing of the realization of that dream. i am not sure what tha persistent positive representations of the people who brought them into the world means; maybe it is there to show that they still love them, although they blame them for their suffering. any other input would be awesome.

Thirty two's still a goddamn number
Thirty two's still counts

Bright Eyes – Lua Lyrics 20 years ago
i truely beleive that the line is about bulimia. the coke addiction could easily coencide with an eating disorder. plus. when someone has bulimia their face sometimes gets spotty, so eyeliner helps. but if you know much about it, i beleive you would think its about bulimia too. but then again. lets just all enjoy the song, no matter what we think it means, as long as we think it means something.
