Ever considered having a relationship with your best friend that goes beyond friendship, but then you realise that due to complicated affiliations in your current love life, the 'relationship' just won't work out? I used to think of this song as two lovers who have broken up and one of them can't accept that it's over. Five years later, this song resurfaces and it's appeal is different, the meaning construed in another manner. To me, now, it's like two friends denying that they have feelings for each other so that no other external parties will get hurt by their union.

The first time I ever heard this song was actually sung to me by my boyfriend at the time - it was one of those holiday romances that you know will never work out. Anyway, I went back there after two years and it was weird, coz the feelings were still there and we hooked up again if only for that month that I stayed there.
Otherwise, this song really hits nerve especially when it comes to trying to realise why things didn't work out between two people |

Prostitution idea aside, this song could be about a guy who's spent years just being friends with this girl, who's always been with some guy, while he pines over her. The times that she's not with anyone he fills in, but now he just wants more, and because she's so damned fickle he'll do quite possibly everything to be there for her, etc. Sweet song, in a pseudo-stalker sorta way =P |

I think that it's about two best friends - the guy really wants to be with her, but she needs a whole lot of convincing to be able to have him in her life.
