The Butterfly Effect – Perception Twin Lyrics 19 years ago
^^^ That's a good interpretation to be honest, I've never really truly thought about what this song means, all i know is that it comes to the most intense crescendo you'll ever hear in Rock Music at the point where Clint sings "Your Twin with you within..."

Incredible... possibly the most intense moment I know of in Rock. Especially when seeing them live.

A Perfect Circle – The Noose Lyrics 20 years ago
Wow, I just have to make a few generalisations having read the interpretations fo this song so far...

1. Maynard had a fantastic voice, but most of you people have to stop clinging onto his nutsack. He isn't the Messiah, he's a guy who writes and sings music that we all appreciate. So let's keep things in prespective, it's not like he's saving lives on a regular basis (Cue the inevitable "His music convinced me that life was worth living, so i din't kill myself" - That's fantastic, suicide is a permanant solution to a temporary problem.) But seriously, Maynard, or Billy or whoever: they're not the greatest thing since sliced bread.

2. Whether you read into it and see political insinution in APC's music is a completely individual thing. The glorious thing about music is in it's absolute freedom, and it's openness to interpretation. Just because Eddie Vedder tells me that 'Jeremy' was written about a teenage gunman, that doesn't mean it can't stand as a symbol, TO ME, of overall teenage angst, or of more specific dicks I've grown up with. 'Master of Puppets' might be a song dedicated by the writter, addressed to cocaine, but to me it's always going to be about living as your own person. Political or not, it's all about what you hear.

3. The beauty of a voice like Maynard's is the range. But I rate it as the number two voice in music. Number one goes to Clint Boge from 'The Butterfly Effect', a band from Australia. Clint might not be as good a writer, but he can shriek, wail, harmonise or serenade as well as Maynard, if not better.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Audioslave – Like a Stone Lyrics 20 years ago
Yes, on the Audioslave DVD, Timmy C says that he thought it was a love-song about a dead gf or wife, but when he asked Cornell about it, Chris said it was about waiting for death. Really screws with my interpretation. Now it's so much mroe depressing than it was already, instead of depression born of love, it's just pathetic depression.

The other isn't an album, it's an E.P. of 6 tracks. More metally than 'Begins Here' but worth investing in for sure.

Pearl Jam – Lukin Lyrics 20 years ago
When I saw PJ last year, Ed mentioned that in Seattle, "we didn't have a Mayor... we had a KING... and his name was Lukin."

Norm Rice is probably the guy Ed was referring to, as Norm has shown up at PJ shows in the past.

Audioslave – Be Yourself Lyrics 20 years ago
I was just about to post that... I love those lines...

"even when you paid enough
been pulled upon or been held up
every single memory of
could of been faces of love
don't lose any sleep tonight
i'm sure everything will end up alright
even when you lose."

And Cornell does it majestically.

Jet – Are You Gonna Be My Girl Lyrics 21 years ago
There's a difference between interpretation and blatent copyright infringment. Jet flirt dangerously with the line between the two. Every musician under the sun is influenced by The Beatles. NOT everyone takes the lyrics of 'sexy sadie' and tries to pass it off as their own.
Msucially, they are not the second coming. They're not as talented as everyone seems to think they are. They play basic riffs and the bass lines are ridiculously simplistic. The guy can't sing either. I know people who went to High School with them, and they weren't even the best rock act at high school. Connections and/or savvy publicity got them to the big time. Not talent.
You want real Aussie talent? Check out a band called 'The Butterfly Effect' or someone like 'The Living End'. These are seriously talented rockers. Jet aren't worthy to be their roadies.

Bobbie Gentry – Ode To Billie Joe Lyrics 21 years ago
I agree with basically everything you've all said, except I want to add a very subtle hint I think supports the 'Abortion' theory...

And Mama said to me "Child, what's happened to your appetite?"

Pregnancy generally enhances appetite, the fact that it's gone symbolises the loss of pregnancy.

Audioslave – Be Yourself Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this is the perfect first single. It's not the best Audioslave song, and it's not as ballsy as 'Cochise', but it definately is singalongable and gets stuck in your head. I think it's way better than 'Like a Stone' which I thought was the lowpoint of the first album. I hope this album is all I hope it's going to be, and I'm expecting a LOT. I want cochise/Gasoline/Show me how to Live/Exploder style songs

The Butterfly Effect – Beautiful Mine Lyrics 21 years ago
I saw these guys in Melbourne and they ROCK! I initially thought they sounded pleasantly like the younger/harder rocking Pearl Jam and was pleasantly surprised when i read that Pearl Jam were one of their favourite bands as youths. This song was emblazzoned in my brain for months and I couldn't find it or who it was by until I saw them perform it live.
These guys definately deserve to crack the international market. This album is nonstop ballbreaking rock : the kind of thing crappy bands like 'Jet' wouldn't know if it hit them in the face.

Puff Daddy – I'll Be Missing You Lyrics 21 years ago
OK, but how about some love for 'The Police' who provided the tune/chorus for the song.

Yes, that Puff Daddy is so "Talented". He somehow came up with this song despite having to actually go to the trouble of taking someone elses work and rapping over it (See: ruining it)

Pearl Jam – Sweet Lew Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this wasn't meant to be a 'Pearl Jam song' as much as it was Jeff's way of getting back at Kareem Abdul Jabaar. I mean, like the Lost Dogs CD booklet says, he met his idol, and KAJ was aloof and completely distant. Imagine meeting Eddie Vedder and him being an absolute tool to you... how would you cope? Well, Jeff Ament wrote a song.

And being as how basketball is my sport too, I envision meeting Michael Jordan - if he acted like a tool then I'd be upset...

Just listen to 'Bee Girl' off Lost Dogs if you have it. It's after the silence following Bee Girl. A hidden track.

Pearl Jam – Once Lyrics 21 years ago
jay15944 said what i've always thought... he's seriously got some issues with his mother, Oedipus Rex-style stuff... and the rage that he has is a direct result of the mental confusion she generated within him. The final of the trilogy, footsteps, is one of the most emotive songs you'll ever hear. Every note is like a stab in the chest.

Metallica – Hero of the Day Lyrics 21 years ago
I was about 16 when i first heard the S&M version of this song. It has been my favourite song ever since. And Metallica only rank at #3 on my fave bands list behind Pearl Jam and Audioslave. But easily and forever I love this song, the S&M version. I have cried lilstening to it. The emotion is phenominal. The sentiment is palbable. The utter melancholy is beyond beleif. The lyrics, even if it is a very personal interpretation, offer such inspiration. I actually have to ration out my listening of this song. If I listen to it once, I want to listen to it straight away again. I listen to it less than once a month. I only listen to it on full volume, with no possibilty of disturbance (I actually take the phone off the hook). The adrenaline flows through my veins, the hair on my neck and arms stand on end, and I cry. Tears of sheer joy that such a beautiful song exists. Four minutes and forty-four seconds of heaven.

Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics 21 years ago
What does this song mean to me? God, what doesn't it mean? I consider myself a logical person who wouldn't totally succumb to something as trivial as a song. But GOD! This song... it defies description. To anyone who has lost someone, we can all relate to Eddie here... we can hear his heart in his voice, his utter devestation, complete sense of loss. The pain that comes across in his voice is unparallelled in any song I know. By anyone. The studio version is so technically perfect, and Eddie's vocals are sumblime. On LOTL I think we find the best (If thats possible) version. So emotive, so human. The LATG DVD version is incredible, and the last two lines in that version... Once again the English language fails miserably to have words to describe it. Ed holds a note for 19 seconds. The crowd goes nuts. Insane.
