Mumford & Sons – Hopeless Wanderer Lyrics 13 years ago
I good be wrong but these lyrics "ooze" any of the Romantics (Thoreau, Emerson etc...); especially the first line "I came out of the woods by choice." To me, this could EASILY be from HDT's standpoint having achieved what he thought to be the meaning to life. If Walden were ever to hit the big screen, this could easily be the theme- exciting, revolutionary with a bada$$ crecendo! Just my interpretation.

Skillet – The Older I Get Lyrics 19 years ago
the song is about the lead singer's relationship, often volatile, with his father. different song , same dance. he fought with him a lot when he was younger, but through the healing of time John's(lead singer) kids now have a grandfather. so, it's a nice apologetic, wish i knew then what i know now, type song. so all you guys/girls were right====failed relationship ;)

ok , well everyone's entitled to his/her own opinion... but i kind of think that this would be under the category of Songs Cash Should Have Written. Cornell had one of, if not THE, greatest voice in rock today, but as far as this idiot above's statement goes... you're right about one thing cornell should dig cash out of the grave so he can kick some genuine Americana in your, fairy, obviously musicly-tasteless ass.

Colin Hay – Beautiful World Lyrics 19 years ago
It's really funny how the simplest of things can put smiles on our faces. I think often times we get caught up expecting the musicians to write some incredible song that causes us to think "outside-the-box" which in turn causes us to think in an abstract mentality. but then , every once and again we'll hear a song so simple , yet so profound that the words and the music that compliments them causes us to have a revelation that we live in a great world where the simple things in life are essentially all we need to find pure, undefined happiness. this guy is awake

Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
ok so first time i've heard this song and im crying. this is the most haunting song i've ever heard. and i don't care if jeff buckley "can't carry a tune" (that's rediculous) but for argument's sake let's say he can't... then why in the hell has he shown every emotion his body had during this recording? how can someone show this? i'm baffled. this, overall, is the most amazing song i think i've ever heard. i was moved to tears the first time i heard this. amazing , just amazing.

Mae – The Sun And The Moon Lyrics 19 years ago
ok my bad- i meant epilogue. and i just thought of something else, the song probably should be titled "in between the sun and the moon". because the more I hear the lyrics and picture the gate , i really picture us leaving this place (death, transcending, whatever) and on the way to this gate our life flashes before our eyes which could so totally be the "wasted time" part. who knows??? and then at the end when he says "so when you say 'forever' , can't you see you've already captured me"- it could be like the realization that someone really really really loves you a whole lot, and once you realize this gift , quit dwelling on the wasted time, and that this love is never-ending... man build up!!!! once you realize the true meaning of unconditional, then folks that gate starts opening just as the instrumental starts (just picture it) and then at the end where the guitar ends that strum and rob is all alone playing the piano, that's when you see this indescribable energy that is where we came from, dudes - it's love.....

then again it could be about a girl.

Mae – The Sun And The Moon Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is my favorite song by mae hands down. I has so much feeling and imagery through the strings and piano it almost takes you to another realm... which i believe is why they titled it "the sun and the moon." from any spiritual perspective whether it be Christian or other, the sun and the moon play very key roles in one's journey. universally the sun represents our spirit which ties us to angels and our deity - our God. It is the part in which the Bible tells us we were created in His image- that is our sun, or our spirit. It is undoubtedly the aspect that holds us together with God/god. It is also the energy that opens up the gate bw this world and the next- which I believe holds so true to the artwork of the album... the gate titled "the everglow". man sooooo much is said there , agreed? ;) ok so now to the moon part--- the moon is connected with the soul, which contrary to what some would believe, is NOT the same as the spirit. the soul is what makes you different from everyone else; it's what makes you you and no one else. it is the part of you that has free will. now whether you believe in astrology or not it does say something pretty key about he moon.... and that is the moon is the verb which springs your emotions and your desires... so the sun and the moon are key parts of all of our lives, they are also the beginning and end of our days, the light and dark of our lives. the song is , in a word, GORGEOUS. This song also could be about looking around and knowing in your sun and your moon that just as those came from the same being so did everything around that you see thanks to the sun and the moon. lastly, this could be about us seeing light for the first time - our birth- and how the sun starts our day- our life- then as we progress and figure out our "moon"- our soul - what our desires and emotions are in fact- then maybe our life is complete on this place- i mean the prologue takes place after this song so??? i dunno if any of those are true, however, i do know that one thing that seems to be true... M.ultisensory A.esthetic E.xperience is definitely an incredible band that gives praise where praise is due, to the music and to him, which they allude to soo much.

Tool – Lateralus Lyrics 19 years ago
i'm going to attempt to sum this song up as quickly as possible. Maynard, I believe is demonstrating what "adam and eve" came to. this is an awakening story put to music by using fibonacci sequence- ---- wow! The first line black and white are all i see... deals with the overlooked fact that to be limitless you have to have no fear in your ability... somewhere along the way we developed a mentality of "limited". being limited/having doubts are exactly what child like mentalities ARE NOT about... later on

ok, I'm a little bit confused about this whole snakes on a plane business... there is so much hype to this movie that it is either going to down as an awesome fun movie, or quite possibly one of, if not , the biggest bombs ever made. this album has a lot of remixes and it seems like it's going to be the best of warped tour vol. snakes on a plane. I hope travis didn't commit career suicide because gym class heroes are incredible.

beautiful poem put to music. morrissey really shows his way with words. simplistic yet captivating. i too read the perks of being a wallflower and enjoyed it, but i never listened to the song until i finished the book. it really really showed you how sad charlie was in the book. honestly, if morrissey were born a few centuries ago, he probably would be mentioned in every single high school literature book written. just wow.

The Format – Tie The Rope Lyrics 19 years ago
First off, the format has some serious shoes to fill with their upcoming album... Aright onto the song meaning... what's great about music is its timing. and the timing for me "discovering" this song couldn't have been more appropriate.

"I'm in envy of addicts,
you're obsessed with stars.
Dont, dont you sound so excited,
showing me your vanity.
Whisper it once, just a little bit.
C'mon whisper it twice,
I cant stand to see the spotlight shine one more night.
Its killing me to see you"

-ok the first verse, in my opinion, pretty much illustrates a one-sided interpretation of a relationship. He's basically saying in the first line that he's envious of relationships where people can seem addicted to one another. so he's envious of this thing that he's been searching for and that thing is a girl that he connects with well. but she's obsessed with stars meaning that she's looking way more outward at her surroundings than what is standing right in front of her. So the guy slips and tells her he has feelings for her, and she basically takes it as just that. no return feelings are shown though she may have said them...which could very easily be viewed as vanity. of course she is going to be excited that she knows someone cares about her. the "whisper it once...twice" i think means her responding by saying those 3 little words. sure she could say it once but if she says it the second time without hesitation then the guy feels like this is worth it...but unfortunately all he wants to hear is her say these words and mean them but since she either can't or won't then it's killing him.

"Just tie the rope and kick the chair. Just leave me hanging there,
gasping for air yeah,
dont mind me three feet from the ceiling.
And i think i know why you never get to close.
It's cause youre too scared to.
When im with you theres no point in breathing."

-now we hit the chorus which is both sarcastic and COULD lead to a literal situation. the saying have you ever loved someone it hurts comes to mind here. he is basically saying "you don't realize what kind of hold you have on me." you basically have control of my life and you don't even know it. so since you have this control how about you just go ahead and kill me but don't make it quick because like this situation the ends have to justify the means so let's make it as painful as possible - ie gasping for air.. but then just as she has control over his heart/whatever... and she can destroy it... and he realizes this , he still says that when he's around her he forgets everything including the very fundamental neccessity of life- breathing. during the chorus he also illustrates that she's scared of commitment because of past relationships which is why she never gets close to anyone. she loves the chase and that is it because her ultimate fear is settling, not being alone.

"You'd rather watch me drown,
then see your hands get wet.
You took the plot from stage to screen,
and turned it to an epic scene.
So whisper it once, tell me again.
C'mon whisper it twice,
I cant stand to see my whole life flah before my eyes.
When im with you theres no point in breathing.
No point in breathing"

-the first line could mean something along the lines of the girl almost thrives on the pain that the guy is going through for her. this might be because she's never had someone do this for her, yet she has been down this road plenty of times and understands what pain the guy is feeling feels like. then it gets to the part about you've taken this plot from stage to screen and made it into an epic scene... how many times have directors ruined books or plays by trying to exaggerate/ruin a good plot. she could love the attention that this simple plot has turned into. ie: the guy and the girl starting as friends and something happens to where things have undoubtedly changed. next we have the guys just wanting to hear the words that he has uttered to her numerous times and meant it. he just wants to hear those 3 words. but much like love and death relate to each other and sometimes have double meanings so does the next line , " I can't stand my whole life flash before my eyes." the only time i've heard of people's lives flashing before their eyes are either when they have a near-death experience or the realize they love someone and everything in their lives really doesn't matter (past, present or future) as long as they have this feeling. and then dude utters when i'm with you there's no chance in breathing, no chance in breathing. which again illustrates the fact that she has control of his life and his heart because he inadvertantly gave her this control when he uttered the 3 words.

"So, so you run away for no apparent reason,
cause you and i are changing with the seasons.
Don't give me an answer as to why youre leaving.
The tables are full but nobodys been dealing,
so fold your hand
C'mon and fold your hand"

-so in response to this love the guy has for her she tries to write him off completely because it is overwhelming her and she just wants to have "fun." the changing of seasons is a reference to accept change. and in this case accept the connection that they both have. unfortunately in many cases it's one-sided. "don't give me an answer..." dude's basically saying i don't want an excuse. you know it and i know it, so what are you afraid of (just fold your hand). just give in...

and then we go back to the chorus...

so yea i have no idea if this is what the singer was trying to get across but music singers are considered artists and so therefore music is art. and the single-greatest thing about art is what it is deals with your opinion and no1 else's. there is no wrong interpretation. I don't know i just had to write about this song because it's so incredibly relative to my life now...

Taking Back Sunday – Bike Scene Lyrics 21 years ago
ok so I've been listening to this song a whole lot lately due to what has been going on in my life. TBS has a real good way of relating quarter life crisis in pretty simple terms. so on with the interpretation...

I think this song basically is talking about a relationship that is headed nowhere. It's just kind of like numbing realization that neither is able to move on.

"I'll leave the lights down low...business"
- I believe it's almost a sarcastic approach as you will later understand in the song. basically how many times have you had serious talks with your gf/ex-gf?? I think he is basically saying ok here we go again, another serious convo coming up...

the next part
"maybe we could talk this over... let alone your worst"
-so here I think the guy is saying ok let's talk this over as to why we can't be together. I mean after all he is basically saying i could be your best bet (the best thing for the girl) or i could be your worst ex(fighting all the time). then i think we he reiterates the "let alone your worst.." I think he is almost thinking to himself that he knows that he is not going to be the best bet, but he is so used to feeling that way towards her and wishing that it would happen he is in somewhat denial about the whole thing.

the next part is my personal fav.
" I wanna hate you so bad... anymore than you can"
-It would be so easy to end this nowhere bound relationship by just hating the other person, but hey that's what this relationship is about a love/hate...neither of them can stand/stop the relationship eventhough both know that it's going nowhere. (sorry for being redundant)

next part: ok so the "honestly how could you say those things.."
- i really don't believe "those things" he is talking about are the words "i love you, or I care about you".
I think the guy has tried to move on in the past but she says things like "oh I'm jealous" or something of that nature leading him on again. and he responds how can you get mad at me about messin around with other girls when I'm human- It's a double standard- she can date/get on whoever she wants, but once he starts talkign she intervenes and starts leading him on again...

next part: "This is all wrong and it shows...not to let you know"
- So, I think he is basically saying/crying out that this is wrong the way you are looking at this, and then the part about "not to let you know" is talking about he promised himself he would not show his true feelings for her because of past relationships that he was burned in.

Echo part (the girl)
-she is basically thinking to herself that she has him wrapped around her finger. He will always be at the edge of my seat waiting to see what/how far he will go for her.

Next part is the realization of the guy:
-He realizes what game she is playing and he's miserable cuz he knows she doesn't care anything about him.

and the finale! -
-picture the guy confronting the girl saying you've got me right where you want me and I see this now, so I'm through being at your becking call (sp). "Let's never talk about this again" means that he is finished let's never talk again.

To sum this song up, in my opinion, (maybe cause I'm going through this right now and that's what this song means to me) the guy has had enough of everything this girl is about. He's tired of putting everything in and getting slim to nothing in return... Who knows what this song is really about.
some of you will agree and some will disagree with my interpretation of this song, but i think we can all agree that Taking Back Sunday is a great band
