the repetition and outward simplicity of this song are its biggest strengths. the imagery in the last verse provides such nice contrast. yep, definitely in love with this song. |

not that i personally have any problem to this song, but so many people find music with screaming abraisive. i wish there was a wussy version of this song, so i could put it on a mix for a screaming-averse girl i like. the sentiment of the song is spot-on for how i feel, it's ridiculous how well-developed and evocative it is. |

it says in the liner notes to 10 songs that the poem was the source of the title and first line. i think that's probably where sheer terror got their song title and not waving but drowning got their band name, unless one of these was an homage to to another, but that's just conjecture.
the "water, water, everywhere" part is my favorite part in any song to sing along to, i think. |
