Float on has 282 comments as of now. The next most popular MM song has 72. Need I say more. This is a good album and a good song. That said, it will rest on the shelf with all my other "good albums" that I pull out every now and then, but are distinctly seperated from the "great albums." Sure, they sold out, but not too bad. Collaborating with the Dirty Dozen and Flaming Lips... worse things have happened. As much as I'm not a fan of their "new direction" and wish they would bring Jeremiah Green back on the drums, I'd rather see them get money/attention than another teen idol carbon copy. Hell, if someone waved a million dollars in front of me and told me to make a pop album, I'd do it. And yeah, it annoys me when my friend who worships Hoobastank and Nickelback starts going on about how good they are. But I think that annoyance pretty much comes from his general ignorance and not the band themselves. After all, there are still enough brilliant underground bands (and 5 other MM albums, plus EP's, etc.) that I can still sound like an indiefuck when I want. |
