i have a different take on it. i feel like maybe they've known each other for a long time, as friends, and he has just had a conversation with her in which she told him to "open my heart to the thought that life is something you're not caught at." He's been so busy "getting lost in progress" that he didn't "see you [her] in that dress," and he's suddenly realized that all along he's been in love with her. he realizes this, and "the universe just vanished out of sight, and all the stars collapse behind the pitch-black night". He's overwhelmed, but doesn't want to "waste a minute more dear, don't want to take it nice and slow here." He just realized she's the one, after avoiding this realization for awhile, trying not to get "caught at" it. He has "stopped overthinking" and just realizes that she is the words, the chapters, the person who will turn his "cry to laughter." The rest of the song is him realizing she is everything to him, that the "stars could disappear without a trace" because she is his "hope that ends disaster." In the end, he knows that without the long journey it took him to realize this, he wouldn't appreciate everything she means to him now. "It's the journey that's made me so strong," strong enough to really admit to himself that he's in love with his best friend. at least, that's what i think. :) |

| Regina Spektor – Samson Lyrics | 19 years ago |

i think everyone has had some good ideas. to me, this song is about a woman who falls in love with a man who is amazing, a samson who is strong and true and better than anyone else she's ever known. At first the love is fine, but eventually she feels inadequate to his perfection, and finally cuts his hair to ruin him. But when he discovers it, he forgives her, and here's where i'm unsure. either a: the source of his perfection isn't his hair at all, and him forgiving her simply makes him more perfect, and she realizes that her 'downfall" is really what's saving her, realizing that thsi goodness isn't in his hair, it's in him. b: he understands why she cut his hair, and accepts it. in fact, he is almost glad to be free of the power, as well. anyhow, i could put in the lyrics that make me think that, but generally that's what i get from the song. i could be making it up. :) |

| "cut the mustard" is to be up to par, like everyone is saying. i think the farting interpreters are confusing "cut the mustard" with "cut the cheese". | |

| i think the song is really commenting on the "life" of relationships and life as a whole. relationships exist, they begin (waiting in the ether), serve their purpose (form, feel, kill, propogate), and die. however, they become such a center of attention, all-important, those in the relationship don't realize that the relationships are very small in the large picture (die, dissolve, magically, absurdly they end, coldly and strangely return). Like relationships, life becomes to immeshed in itself, and yet, it simply exists, goes through the motions, dies, and appears again. or maybe i'm crazy. but i like thinking of it that way. | |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Transatlanticism Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i think this song refers to the after-affects of Tiny Vessels (which i think we can all agree refers to convincing yourself you are in love to rationalize sex, then realizing the truth afterwards). The realization comes between the couple, and this one thing makes the huge, impassable distance of water. "the rhythm of my footsteps crossing flatlands to your door has been silenced for ever more". the relationship will never be the way it was, and he realizes how truly distant they are, how they never were really in love "i need you so much closer". the sex, instead of bringing them together, has driven a wedge between them. or, at least that's what i get from it. | |

| Boston – More Than A Feeling Lyrics | 21 years ago |

i think he is referring to the realization that this 'feeling' he gets when he listens to this song (which reminds him of marianne) is actually more than just a feeling, he actually realizes he loved her. im a total boston convert. i didn't even know they existed until my friends put this song together for my school's huge variety show. |

| Head Automatica – Beating Heart Baby Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| wow, letting other people determine what music you like by what they like or dislike..... that's really cool. i totally agree with that..... | |
| Crossfade – Cold Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| i kinda agree with anarchysomething... this song sounds generic, and it can be mistaken for Nickelback or a few other bands, but i also can't get it out of my head.... whether that is a good thing or a bad thing... | |

xxboxcarracerxx, check out ryan adams or death cab for cutie. ryan adams is really really powerful, and dcfc is just awesome. all good makeout music! |

kfnguy.... i could be that girl you refer to. but i run not so that i break someone's heart, but because sometimes we are all afraid to live. i think the most potent line of this song is 'you don't know how lovely you are'. i think it catches completely that moment where you are in a horirble, deep mess, and suddenly something menial comes into your head. you remember something about them, and thiings make more sense. he sees her, realizes he needs her, loves her, and will do anything to fix the failing relationship. but, in the end, its too late. |

i agree with gama. it completely describes perfectly that feeling. in my case, driving back from a midnight picnic, in my convertible, simply enjoying breathing the same air as the person beside you. simple. sweet. my boyfriend introduced me to this band, and its become one of my favorites (and one of my favorites to make out to as well!) hannah |

| Ryan Adams – Avalanche Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| great lyrics. i think its awesome how he refers to her feeling numb, but his mind refuses to remember her in the beginning. i think the first set of lyrics is flashing back to an earlier time, when he taught a girl how to love, but she got scared and ran away. it hurt him, and he learned to not feel either. | |
| Ryan Adams – The Shadowlands Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
except, i disagree with the lyrics somewhat - 'cause she's angry like a salesman who just couldn't make a sale threw the wedding rings in the sewer and damns them all to hell ...... sometimes you just can't be a man sometimes you just can't be a man when you're living in the darkness of the shadowlands just a few words different... |

| i love this song. so perfect. when i come home after a horrible night, this always helps keep me sane | |

| lazo1962 - that was wonderfully written. | |
| Ryan Adams – Wonderwall (Oasis cover) Lyrics | 21 years ago |

oasis' version was one of my favorite songs until i heard ryan adams (haha, the first time i heard it was on the O.C., and i had to track it down!) now i am completely hooked, great make-out music. it goes well mixed with coldplay or death cab for cutie. i have always wondered, though, wonderwall? what does it really mean anyways? i always just think of it as 'wonderful'. but lately i have been giving some thought to the idea that perhaps she is like his wailing wall, only his wonder wall, where he goes to emerse himeslf not in sadness and tears, but in wonder. |

| yeah - death cab for cutie is the best makeout music ever. great lyrics, great simplicity. perfect. (but i still prefer tiny vessels... its just so straightforward and honest) | |
| Snow Patrol – Spitting Games Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| i think the floodgates is referring to that feeling of euphoria, when something great happens, or when you finally connect with someone you have wanted for a long time, and nothing goes wrong in the world, and everything seems beautiful. | |
| Kill Hannah – Kill Hannah Lyrics | 21 years ago |

ok, i like the song, it just creeps me out everytime they say hannah.... hannah |

| Alkaline Trio – Private Eye Lyrics | 21 years ago |

holy lord. what the hell does someone else's musical tastes have to do with you? so what if someone likes mtv? how is that such a mortal insult to you? and if they disagree with you? that's their right! people disagree! its a fact of life, grow up, get over it, and stop being so fucking self righteous. man, you guys make my head hurt. mostly the prophecy dude and revolting youth. but i do agree with sweet insanity. (btw, the name from the perfect circle song, right? good song, good album!) |

| Low Millions – Eleanor Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| i love this song - completely catches the feelings of a breakup. suddenly all the bonds and ties created over the months are supposed to dissappear... the song portrays it exactly... plus the wonderful key changes, yeay! | |
