She did seem to have some sor tof relationshhip with Stiv bators..he knew who she was, and she would throw her used tampons at him while he was performing and he would either eat them, or realistically pretend to... At the end, instead of 'I just want to be cold I don't want you to know" He sings: "And now you'll never know, What a huge thing I had to offer you." This song is about a man who hits an animal on his motorcycle, and as a result crashes. As he lays dying, another man arrives on the gory scene ("some guy there kneeling in the blinded mirage of white light)". The new man, brushes out the ember on his grimy coatsleeve, picks up the animal, and "he strode of into the woods with the animal." The man saves the animal, not the motorcyclist. He goes off into the wilderness, and never looks back. The motorcyclist is left to die, and he does. FUN FACT at around 55 seconds into the song, Thurston throws a bunch of loud fiery firecrackers into the recording booth where Lee is recording the song. You can totally hear it! What's best, it's at the perfect time for the song, right at the crash! |

I think that this song means: there are two people in love, but when they separate for awhile, the love they feel for each other starts to unravel, dissapear, and they become estranged due to the seperation. This has actually happened to me before. If you love someone, but lose contact with them for awhile, you become weird strangers. So I think the devil is just the force that takes the love, that is where the love dissapears to. And the devil in my case would be, human nature, how you react to someone you used to know but havent seen or spoke to in awhile. It's always awkward. Anyway, that love will never be returned, it's gone, lost to time, so you have to make new love. Basically, relationships decay if there is no contact with the partner. |

| I think this song is is about hugging a girl. At first he hugs her and all he feels is falsely strong, cause all he feels is the strength of himself hugging her. But then he hugs her loosely, he just drapes his relaxed arms around her, and he can suddenly feel not only her shape, but her lava flows, gusty blows, all that is inside her. Then, later on at home, he remembers the touch of the hug (you ever have touch memory, where you can still feel whatever touched you?) and he feels warm, and he even feels her presence. This is a literal interpretation, you could probably go deeper. Also, ever since this song, I've tried hugging people loosely with my arms just draped around people, eyes open, Not 'squeezing.' It's worked out pretty well, espicially with girls (im a guy). Its like a really intimite hug were you feel the person, not the hug you're giving. I've gotten positive responses back from the girls as well, so go out and try it! | |

If you listen to the song "Phil Elvrum's will," at the end, he says "I want wind" and strums the first few chords for this song, a little differently. Also, in the beginning of "The Sun" on the Mt. Eerie album, I want Wind to Blow is playing (or being played) faintly in the background. I love it when artists have common threads and recurring concepts/ideas evident throughout their art. It's like, the ideas gain special significance through their repition. Also, seeing the same idea in a different context, or song, gives it a fresh perspective. It seems the I want wind to blow concept is an idyllic one, because that's what phil, well, wants. It's used here as an preferred atmosphere over the city, but it might mean death, because he mentions it as one of the things he wants when dead, in "Phil elvrums will." Also, "the Sun" is described as "in which the stroy begins, where you are born and run away from death up the mountain in fear and are watched by a ball of fire." The blowing wind, a.k.a. this song in the intro of "the sun" might be the feeling of death he speaks of running away from. One more thing. In this song, he says "Sweep me off my feet Take me up and bring me back Oh, where I can see the waves pass by me." In "phil elvrum's will," he says, speaking of his friends: "and go all the time to the beach to picture my face." Therefore, I think this song is about death. |
