Evanescence – My Immortal Lyrics 21 years ago
Actually, Amy Lee didn't write this song. Ben Moody did.

I actually think that the bandages make references to the song. 'Now I'm bound here by the life you left behind', sort of putting that feeling into a physical sense. After all, she does express herself a lot by what she wears.

The kids playing in the background kind of makes me think about the simplicity of happiness, and the innocence that should be cherrished. How, even though things go bad, things can be so good as well. But I don't know. It could just be to make it not look so deserted.

Are you saying that I'm asian or that Amy Lee is asian? Both cases are true.

Yes, those are my poems. Yes, I know that they're shit. No, I won't stop writing them. Hey, that's my outlet that stops me from having all of those throughts. It has nothing to do with music. I don't try to purposly piss off my parents or anything like that and I'm not a cutter, I find that disgusting. I'm not suicidal. I'm not even unhappy.

In case you haven't realized, this page that you're posting on is named "Evanescence - My Immortal", not "Let's Insult Britty-chan". If you really feel that you must, and really, I won't care, email me. Just don't post it here. Fair?

Okay, but your biggest point seemed to be that Amy Lee was fat. It's cool that you don't like Evanescence. My only remaining question is: why are you parading that fact on an Evanescence song meaning page?

AFI – The Leaving Song Pt. 2 Lyrics 21 years ago
This song sounds a lot like the effects of anger. Especially these lines:

I saw its birth, I watched it grow
I felt it change me
I took the life, I ate it slow
Now it consumes me

-_- man_on_tv, you misunderstood me. I didn't say that you were projecting it. The perfect body is all over the media. The pursue for the perfect body is always there. I've turned on the TV and seen five consecutive dieting commercials before. I was trying to point out that the biggest thing you seem to have about this band is that the lead singer is fat (which she isn't, by the way). I don't dislike fat people, you have to have variation in the world (I will admit that I got a guilty laugh out of your comment). I've heard of cultures who are disgusted by skinny bodies. So yes, some people like fat people.

Just to clarify, I am not trying to start any shit so please calm down. Can you treat it as a debate instead of a flat out argument please? And I don't expect you to believe me when I say that Amy Lee isn't fat. I don't think you're looking close enough but it's pretty clear that you don't like Evanescence so you won't really be able to see.

Okay, skeetstan, that statement is completely irrelevant. Besides, that statement is half true, so what makes you think I would care anyways?

You know, for somebody so anti-MTV, you seem to be judging a lot of the talent on the media projected 'perfect' body.

man_on_tv, why don't you just stop cluttering up the boards then? I mean, you don't have to write. It's all good. Just don't write. Especially here. How many song meanings have you actually put up on this site? I'm guessing not as many as you've insulted.

Oh, the video is so great! It matches the song perfectly. It sounds like this song is about corrupt love, and I absolutely adore it.

No, kolda1ce, you are not the only one who hates them. Why don't you guys do something productive like focusing that anger onto writing something wonderful instead of cluttering up the boards?

I love this song because it takes some of the sad edge off of their other songs. For example, after 3 hours listening to just AFI music, you can feel pretty damn depressed. This is like a cure for that. :) I am forever grateful.

You know, I love how this video was out the same time Britney Spears' Everytime video was released. Compare the two, I love how similar they are. :) Evanescence is the best at making her look like a dumbass.

Yes, Everytime really, really pissed me off.

I think csreech got the title dead on. I realized how the title related to the song when I was in a bath one day and I laughed my ass off for not realizing it earlier. The cure for the itch is all of the scratching Mr. Hahn's doing. I love LP and how much thought they put into the tiniest details.

I really love this song. In my opinion, it is beautiful, though I like the Fallen version better than the one they play with the video. Ben Moody did write it, but Amy Lee said that to her it meant "When you feel like you’ve dwelled on someone that’s gone for way too long and you feel almost haunted by the memory and it’s when you’re at the point you’re not wishing they were back anymore but asking for the presence to leave you" so I think that's what I'm going with :).

To the people here that thinks that anybody who listens to Evanescence has bad taste in music, I have something to point out to you. Everybody has a different taste in music. Why else would there be so much variety? Everybody experiences music differently and just because somebody doesn't experience a song the way you do doesn't make that song bad. It just makes it bad to you.

To the people who call Amy Lee fat, I also have something to say. What does her weight have to do with the music? You could weigh 300 pounds and still make beautiful music, couldn't you? Besides, I'm so tired of seeing half naked girls who are thin as sticks shake their skin towards the camera for no reason other than to make a buck.

Look at the meaning this song has held for so many people. I really don't think that this one is about suicide. Who knows, it could have saved people from committing the act themselves. Would you rather have that or a skinny lead singer?

I don't see what people have against mainstream either. I mean yes, some mainstream music sucks. However, the band must have done something to get famous, right? Whether it be in appearance or in sound. And it's simple to sift through - if you listen and like, that's great! I just don't think you shoud dislike a band just because they're famous.

In conclusion, I'd like to say that Amy Lee should not be compared to Britney Spears in the way that was stated earlier. There is one crucial difference - Amy Lee keeps her clothes on.

End of rant. Sorry if I offended anybody, that was really not my intent.

And in my opinion, AFI is a good band.

I believe that Amy Lee explained on an interview that it was in fact Ben that wrote this song. They were probably both credited because of changes made to the song. But she said that it wasn't from self experience. This was taken directly from the much music site:

> Caller: HI. I WAS JUST REALLY WONDERING WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THE SONG "MY IMMORTAL" BECAUSE IT'S HELPED ME THROUGH ROUGH TIMES AND A BAD DEATH IN THE FAMILY RECENTLY. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE IT?

> Amy: THANK YOU SO MUCH, AND I'M SORRY. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH AN EXPERIENCE LIKE THAT MYSELF WHEN I WAS A VERY YOUNG GIRL, BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT THAT SONG IS ABOUT ACTUALLY. IT IS THE ONE SONG THAT WAS BEN'S. CH HE WROTE IT WHEN HE WAS VERY YOUNG, WROTE BASICALLY THE WHOLE SONG BY HIMSELF. I HATE TO TELL YOU THIS: BEN KIND OF DOESN'T WRITE FROM SELF-EXPERIENCE. IT'S SORT OF A HYPOTHETICAL, BUT THE VIBE OF IT AND THE VIBE THAT I RELATE TO AND WHAT I CAN TAKE FROM IT WITH MY SIMILAR EXPERIENCE IS IT'S WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'VE DWELLED ON SOMEONE THAT'S GONE FOR WAY TOO LONG AND YOU FEEL ALMOST HAUNTED BY THE MEMORY AND IT'S WHEN YOU'RE AT THE POINT YOU'RE NOT WISHING THEY WERE BACK ANYMORE BUT ASKING FOR THE PRESENCE TO LEAVE YOU, WHICH IS KIND OF A SCARY THING BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT'S ABOUT WHERE YOU'RE TO BE RELEASED AND SET FREE, SO IT'S BEAUTIFUL, TOO.

Sorry about the caps -_-

I think that the whole thing is a 'how would you feel if..' sort of thing. I heard that Jade wrote the first/third part and Davey wrote the second. Can anybody clarify that for me?

I love how this part just leads right into This Time Imperfect. It really makes you feel for the song.

AFI – Girl's Not Grey Lyrics 21 years ago
To me this song is about escapism. It makes implications towards the past, which I think he's trying to escape from.

The ending especially gets me, the whole "What follows will swallow whole". I think that it means that these memories or whatever he's trying to escape from will consume him if eventually they would catch up to him.

Also the title. It was supposed to be about an expectation and being let down or something. The title "Girl's Not Grey" well, grey can mean lacking in cheer. So it fits in with the whole painful mood of the song.

This is one of the most beautiful and downright confusing songs I've ever heard. It's one of the things that makes AFI so incredible.

You know, don't kill me, but this song and This Celluloid Dream really reminded me of Armand and Lestat (vampire-Anne Rice). I've been reading a lot of Anne Rice lately and comparing it to AFI music and they use a lot of the same vocabulary. Those two songs really draw me in because they remind me so much of Armand and Lestat. Especially the 'I lay strewn...' bit because of Lestat's break down at the end of Memnoch the Devil. I don't really think that's what this song means but it just reminds me of them so much!

AFI – Silver And Cold Lyrics 21 years ago
Well I really kind of think it's about an ended relationship.

I first heard this song when the video was playing. At first it thoroughly confused me. I didn't even pay attention to what was happening until the third time.

What I found was that it was hinting at suicide a lot. But I don't think that's what the song is about.

I think that it's about being so in love with one person that you would do anything for him/her. I think that what they mean by it is that this person (Davey) has taken so much, and has done so much that he has actually hardened to everything else, and the only thing that matters is the person he loves. I think that it's about trying to get over that but knowing that it's going to be near impossible if possible at all. The way he drops all of those things into the water, it looks as if he's trying to let something go.

I think that the end of the video really explained it. His best friends had just gotten killed in a car crash and he walked away like it was nothing.

MidnightEyes, I have seen some pretty blatent Javey moments. I would love to believe that something has happened but I think that if something had, Davey and Jade wouldn't have said it didn't. Once Davey said something to the effect of "If I were gay, I would be proud" so I'm not sure...*shrug* There are always fanfics.

Anyways, this is just my opinion. I really don't believe it had anything to do with sex or drugs. But hey, I think the way they wrote it, it was supposed to have multiple meanings.
