| The Cowboy Junkies – Notes Falling Slow Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The first two lines of this song are taken from Shakespeare's sonnet 138. I love that they could take a beautiful piece of literature and make it anew. Sonnet CXXXVIII When my love swears that she is made of truth I do believe her, though I know she lies, That she might think me some untutor'd youth, Unlearned in the world's false subtleties. Thus vainly thinking that she thinks me young, Although she knows my days are past the best, Simply I credit her false speaking tongue: On both sides thus is simple truth suppress'd. But wherefore says she not she is unjust? And wherefore say not I that I am old? O, love's best habit is in seeming trust, And age in love loves not to have years told: Therefore I lie with her and she with me, And in our faults by lies we flatter'd be. |

English translation from Eis-brecher.com: Kiss me so I don't have to say anything Hold me and then end it with me I don't know how or how come it's getting worse with us There's still much for me to do but you're standing in my way No matter at all whatever you do No matter whatever you say No matter what moves you No matter how much you complain I'm breaking away and banging my head against the wall I'm taking my destiny back into my own hands You do nothing – I hate it You attempt nothing – I hate it You wait – I hate it for something – come, stop it You shake – I hate it You embitter – I hate it You cripple me – I hate it how fast the time goes by For it is much too early too late Kiss me and then tell me adieu Beat me then it doesn't hurt so much Who knows how far and to where the wind is blowing us and what's in the stars for me without you No matter at all whatever you do No matter whatever you say No matter if you understand No matter how often you still ask me I'm breaking away and eating from my own hand I still haven't burned my fingers enough You say nothing – I hate it You ask nothing – I hate it You still believe – I hate it in your god – Come, stop it You shake – I hate it how fast the time goes by For it is much too early too late |

English translation from Eis-brecher.com: Give me your smile with tears in your face Lead me out of the dark into the light You let me feel your warmth You touch me intimately You look behind my mask You get under my skin Tell me — Do you see me – do you feel me Where do you live – do you understand What are you looking for Why do you love me Why do you lie in my arms Come on, say it already Why do you love me Why do you remain on my side Come on, tell me why don't you go Close your eyes Tell me what you feel I have no more fear when I know that you're leading me You cover me up tenderly with yourself without a sound You bury yourself deep within me You get under my skin Why do you love me Why do you lie in my arms Come on, say it already Why do you love me Why do you remain on my side Come on, tell me Why you still love me now like on the first day Why you forgive of all my sins Why you still understand me I know that you still believe in me I don't know why you still trust me Tell me why you don't go Say why you love me Why do you still believe in me Say why you need me |

English translation from Eis-brecher.com: When the fog is coming When the cold is biting you When the siren's cry rips apart the night When hope is dying When you're losing the battle When you feel the Devil's breath against your neck And it's getting cold Do you see the icebreaker A new ice age is beginning Come with me on the icebreaker We are on the course into the light and the ice around us is shattering When the courage is draining from your body And the shadow world is shaking hands with you When the last man is facing his fate When nothing is left that is keeping you alive And it's getting cold Do you see the icebreaker A new ice age is beginning Come with me on the icebreaker When the night speaks no more words and the ice around us is shattering And the ice is shattering |

English translation from Eis-brecher.com: I kissed the sun I sat enthroned upon the Holy See I hid myself from you I lived behind the moon There is the fire again It's flaming back up in me 10,000 warriors of love on the way to you Let me be your rose warrior I am a great victor Put the wreath of roses upon my head Open your black bodice Thorn dance Tonight is thorn dance I waited for so long I begged you on my knees I pined away for you You turned around There is the fire again This time you belong to me An army of red roses salutes before you Let me be your rose warrior I am a great victor Put the crown of thorns upon me and close your eyelids I have begged you You refused me your heart You turned around I pined away for you |

| Eisbrecher – Angst? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
English translation from Eis-brecher.com: Tell me what you are afraid of Tell me why you can't go on anymore why you think that nothing works anymore and why you quite suddenly think it is too late Tell me what you are running from from all the lies and all the filth You don't know why nor where to and you suddenly ask yourself the point the point Fear throws its shadow on the door Fear sinks its teeth in like an ulcer Your fear has you tightly in its hand Fear has castrated you Sheer terror is the power that rules you Fear that controls your soul Your fear is the source of your desire Fear of yourself Tell me what you are afraid of Now it's getting you down You look so tired and agitated because the fear is ripping your head apart You think it's going uphill for you because your time is running short You run and don't budge from the spot and are just throwing yourself away throwing yourself away Fear casts its shadow on the door Fear tears you up like paper Your fear has you tightly in its hand Fear has recognized you Sheer terror is the mother of your problems Fear is your leader your despot Your fear the evil in your sights Fear of yourself It comes very quietly in the night It locks you in its black shaft You are the fruit of its loins Yeah, your fear won't let you go Run as fast as you can Sheer terror Fear casts its shadow on the door Fear sinks its teeth in like an ulcer Your fear has you tightly in its hand Fear has castrated you Sheer terror is the calm before the storm Fear consumes you like a worm Sheer terror drives you from the area Fear of yourself Fear of yourself |

English translation from Eis-brecher.com: My fever – your power Sweet dreams unawakened My punishment is your duty You threaten with pain and I with giving up Finally all my torment is ending From the abyss of fear one last signal Your love – I desecrated it It's coming to an end Finally it's time — I wonder... Is it that which I feel Am I finally at the destination Is it that which I want And my heart stands still And my heart stands still My will – your court Dark and gloomy the face My lie in your gaze You come with sorrow and I'm not coming back From the dark the beam strikes me From the cradle of the light the last signal Your tears – the friends of necessity – with the father death comes quietly — I wonder... |

| Lamb – Just Is Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This is one of the most peaceful songs I have ever listened to in my life. It makes me feel like I'm floating on a cloud. If I had to pick a song to die to, this would be it. | |
| Tori Amos – Amber Waves Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Definitely about a porn star who wants to be something better. I think the title and the lines "he lit you up / like Amber Waves in his movie show" is a reference to the movie Boogie Nights. In that movie, Julianne Moore plays a porn star whose name is Amber Waves. | |
| The Von Bondies – No Regrets Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
God, I fucking love this song. I used to regret a lot of stuff I did, but now I feel free from all of that and this song has helped me recognize that I can't really live life until I let go and really -live-. The song is basically telling you to let go and live as you want to live ("So shut off your days / and turn on your nights / 'cause the chance is for the taking / and the taking's right") and do what feels good and right to you. Go party up the town, drink and have fun without caring what other people think about what you're doing or what you've done. In the end, it's not really their business anyway and what they think doesn't really matter ("What I did last night / is none of your concern / You know I feel all right / but that's none of your concern"). Generally, people don't really care about what you've done anway when it comes to drinking and partying ("Don't be mistaken / for someone who cares") and if they're talking to you about it and trying to find out what you did last night, they want it for gossip or just to see how wild you really get. Anyway, that's what I get from it and, once again, this song is fucking amazing! ^0^ |

| Acacia Sears – George's Tongue Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Lyrics are actually © Neil Gaiman, but Acacia does a damn great job of bringing the song to life. Her voice is amazing and almost every time I listen to this song, I get shivers. | |
| Breaking Benjamin – Polyamorous Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Yeah, like nachos said, it's "YOU got me in a mess of trouble again", not "he". And it's "I never HURT anyone", not "heard". Says so on the official site, so someone change it here and make it right. |

| Eve 6 – Friend Of Mine Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
First of all, like others said, these lyrics are wrong. He does sing "remember that Blake said to make sure you wake and help save your generation" and that's "red" not "rand". Anyway, so, I think this song is about a friend wanting to commit suicide, "spilling some red into the sink", because she's had a terrible year and feels that she can't deal with it. She got raped, "Are the memories too hard to take / Rape is a word with a face", among other things, and he's trying to remind her that she is loved and has people there for her, "I will always be here", and the past doesn't matter any more, "The past is just that", because the future is always there to look forward to and better things are always there. |

| The Tea Party – Stargazer Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I think that the man's in love with a woman who's in love with a different guy, one that's nothing special and will treat her like any other man. Hence the "And you place your faith in a mountain / But what you don't understand / Is that the man is / The same old rock" and the guy who's in love with her is telling her "to look around" and see that the world has so much more to offer and she shouldn't waste her time on people who aren't worth it. That's what I got. Anyway, I love this song but it sounds so different from all of their other stuff that I've heard. More like mainstream rock, I guess. I can't exactly put my thumb on it but the song feels really different than their other stuff. The first time I heard it, I was like, "This can't be Tea Party," but then -he- started singing and I knew it was. XD His voice is so unique, no one else could sound like him. |

| The Presidents of the United States of America – Some Postman Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I have to say that since I've heard this song, I can never think about the postal service the same. Now whenever I send a letter and it doesn't get delivered, I think of this song and get creeped out. | |

| I love and adore this song but I heard the original the other day and uck. x.x I definitely like PMM's version more. | |
| Nine Inch Nails – Sanctified Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
The letter that being read in the background of the song before the last verse is a sound clip from the Oliver Stone movie "Midnight Express". I haven't seen it but from what I've read about it, I'm assuming that the man in the film is writing it to his parents to let them know he's been caught smuggling drugs in Turkey and put in prison or something like that. Anyway, I completely love this song and I can see how some people are of the opinion that it is about drugs 'n stuff, but I prefer to think of it more literally because the song itself is so desperate and yet seductive. The man knows he's in an unhealthy relationship and the woman he's seeing is using him for her own amusement. However, every time he contemplates leaving her, he finds himself unable to because she's so perfect and he thinks that maybe it'll work out someday although he knows that it won't. He feels so hopeless that the only thing that he thinks can release him from her spell is death, thus the allusion to suicide in the final verse. |

| Nine Inch Nails – The Day the World Went Away Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This is the song that got me into NIN actually. I watched this kick ass show, Touching Evil, last year that played on USA (they didn't run it a second season though >.< bastards) and in the pilot, they used 'A Warm Place ' while running the intro credits and at the end, when the main character was having a breakdown, this song played and whoa. I was totally blown away. It's so charged with emotion and just insanely intense that I got goosebumps and kinda just sat there in a daze from it. I fucking love this song. XD |

| Thursday – Jet Black New Year Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This song, to me, is just about the general despair some people equate with a new year. Everyone thinks, "Oh, god! This year will be so much better and with all these resolutions, I'm going to succeed this year and everything's gonna be goddamn PERFECT!" But in the end, it doesn't matter because other people get in your way and fuck it up and your plans burn up and everything ends up totally wrecked. The bright side though is if you live in the moment and just live life to the fullest as you can, you'll have fun and be happy. After all, you've only got one life so why waste it? |

| Lamb – Gabriel Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
God, this song is so brilliant. When she says "wings" and it echoes, it sends shivers down my spine and I feel all goosebump-y wonderful. XD So, what I think this song is about is the speaker (not necessarily the lady singing, god forgive me that I don't know her name) has found the one she feels that she's destined to be with, this "Gabriel" fella, but she's a strong woman and she doesn't want to change her lifestyle. She knows that she can make it without him even though she wants to be with him, thus the "I am strong even on my own / But from him I never want to part ". She's torn between giving in to what she really wants, a life with him, and the comfort of the life she's lived because she knows she'll be fine by herself. She also knows though, that being with him will give her something she's never had before, "I can love / But I need his heart ". So, I think it's ultimately about the speaker lady struggling to deny the love she feels for this man and failing in the end. After all, how could you deny your love for an angel? ^_^ And that's my little bit... |

| No Doubt – Ex-Girlfriend Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I like this song and have seen the music video for it, but I must admit I was fairly surprised by the music video for I am also an anime fan and so have seen "Kite". ( For those of you not acquainted with anime, it's Japanese animation. Some examples are Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, Digimon, etc. but there are much better ones out there, believe you me. >.< ) Anyway, after seeing the music video for "Ex-Girlfriend" I was stunned. Almost all of the scenes were ripped straight from "Kite". From the photo exchange on the benches to the bathroom scene and the ending with the two of them falling from the building; all of it was straight from "Kite". Of course, I'm taking the optimistic view and merely thinking of the music video as a tribute to the anime, and not a rip-off. |

| Angie Aparo – Wonderland Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I really love this song, it's beautiful and touching and makes me cry just about every time I hear it. I do have a bone to pick about it though. It's about how one part of the song can be interpreted. When he says "I know you like Adam knew Eve" I can't help but think he's talking about "knowing" in the Biblical sense, i.e. intercourse. And since this song is directed towards his daughter... well, that's just -wrong-. However, lol, as I'm writing this, I realize that this "knowing" could also refer to the act of the creation of a child as Adam's rib was used to create Eve, just as Aparo's... stuff created his daughter. But, of course, that leads you down the road of since Eve was a clone of Adam 'cept a woman, would their act of having sex be called masturbation or incest? Lol. Okay. I love this song. Now I'm done. |
|
| A Perfect Circle – Pet Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I can see how people take this song to be political or about addiction and I think those interpretations are just fine, but every time I hear it, I think of an overprotective parent. You know, the types who keep their kids ignorant about the world by shielding them from the media and home-schooling them and telling them how horrible a place the world is and the only friends they have are their parents. The really creepy kind of parents who turn out to be either schizophrenic or serial killers or something. @_@ Freaky... Anyway, one last thing about this song that cracks me up is the line "Don't fret, precious, I'm here." Every single fucking time I hear that line, I think of Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs and his fucking poodle, lol. |

| 36 Crazyfists – Kenai Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This song has a special meaning for me as I moved to Alaska when I was young and lived there for eleven years before moving away. After I had moved and heard this song a year or so later, it brought me close to tears because it perfectly reflected my own feelings about the move and how much I miss Alaska, which has grown to be home for me. Even now, a couple years after the move, I still listen to this song and feel homesick. The line "over mountains I feel safe" especially reflects my feelings as after living with mountains looming overhead for so long, now that I live in a place where the land is almost completely flat as far as the eye can see, I feel somewhat like the opposite of claustrophobic. |
|
| Acid Bath – Scream Of The Butterfly Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
God, I love this song beyond belief. It's so insanely good that I never try to think about any "deeper meaning" it might hold, instead just basking in its beauty. It's so mellow feeling and just makes the listener want to relax. That's contrasted though with the rage it contains and a sense of betrayal, but the way it's delivered disguises it. But, the lyrics here... like, 1/4th of the song is missing. O.o Someone... fix it, please. |

| Acid Bath – Dr. Seuss Is Dead Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Lol, I totally didn't know Dr. Suess was dead until I heard this song. Shows how much outta the loop I am. I love this song though. XD Acid Bath kicks ass. Anyway, yeah, this song is obivously about the loss of innocence and the corruption of purity and all that's right and good with the world. The things it describes -- "flies", "insect flesh", "needles", "paved with bone" -- it's all negative imagery that is associate with not-good things. And by talking about the death of Dr. Suess, that even furthers the image of dead innocence because when people think of Dr. Suess, they generally think of all his children's books, which many Americans hold fond in their memories. However, after hearing this song, I did a little research on Dr. Suess and found out that he had what you might call a "dark side". During World War II, he drew political cartoons and some of them depicted Japanese Americans as traitors. I know when I found that out, I was a tad shocked. I always imagined Dr. Suess as this warm fuzzy guy who loved everyone. Lol, so, in a way, this song destroyed part of my innocence. |

| Fuel – Innocent Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This is one of my favorite Fuel songs. It really resonates with me and the lyrics are so deep. Something about it had bugged me for a long time though. The first couple lines totally reminded me of something. The "Gently I go into that good night" sounded so familiar. Finally I was able to find the reference when my Creative Writing teacher handed out a paper one day. There was a poem written by a man named Dylan Thomas a long time ago and because I thought it might interest some of you, I located the poem and thought I would post it up here. Maybe it will add another layer of meaning to the song for someone. Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night -- Dylan Thomas Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. |
