My 3-second-interpretation:
It's about wishing for something big and just settling for what you have. I pretty much just left the chorus out of this guess, but perhaps its a start. |

Maybe he talkes about weights so much because weights are used by people to alter their appearence and become fake, just like a spy is fake. The slow hands could possibly mean that he wants to get more "feely" but is limited by his facade of emotion. I don't know, just trying to start something. |

Oh yeah, and as GoldenX stated; its written in the present tense, which is grounds for relation to the Patriot Act. |

OK, this might be a little farfetched but lets see...
I think that this song has something to do with the Holocaust. Firstly, the friend he was refering to is from Poland. Secondly, he has a beard, which is common amongst orthodox Jews. His friend was captured, it seems, as a butcher, which could be a euphimism for someone particularly dangerous. It also says that he seemed to mind his own business, as he severed segements secretly (have to love alleration). What I conclued is that this is a political song. Perhaps Mr. Banks is against the Patriot Act. In the song he is saying how his friend was detained for something he probably didn't do, just for simply being profilable. There's a lot more to expand upon but perhaps he also feels a little hypocrisy in this. When he says that "he was growing on me" he could be aluding to the way that he himself is an American, or more specifically a Republican, and feels remorse for harboring such practices. Then again, its only an idea. |

Based on what they do have, I think that what it is asking is "If suddenly I didnt have to worry about the future and I knew what was going to happen would that alter my goals? Also, would it relieve me from my pain and worry, or just make it go away?" |

| Interpol – Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down Lyrics

Maybe its a combonation of 3 of your ideas:
Maybe Stella was a hooker who he fell in love with but because of her previous ordeals he felt the only way to make sure she was his forever was to kill her. Then, in real life Paul manifests this idea through Stella the beverage. His love is like beer is like the song; his love makes him do crazy things, he gets drunk, he trips over a stool, he loves a hooker too much and kills her. The hooker is like the beer, everyone had a "sip" but he went for the whole thing and finished her off. |

| Interpol – Say Hello to the Angels Lyrics

I think that this song is a morbidly sexual story hidden in a punky tone so people dont get too freaked out by it. I think that it starts out with, you guessed it, masturbation. "I had my back turned,
you didn’t realize I’m lonely" It starts out with that and then leads to pedophilia. He seems to be telling the person he is with what love is, showing her youth and naivity. Also, she is linked to his "innocence", which could show his guilt of rape. BUT IT GETS BETTER! I believe that the ending has to do with murder. He seems frantic when he is trying to get there, possibly the burial point:Can I get to this way, I think so
Can I get to this way, I think so
Can I get to this way? Can I get to this way?
Can I get to this way? Can I get to this way? " Also, he says that he wants to run away in the lines directly after. Finally, and most obviously, he tells her to say hello to the angels, which shows her death (the murder idea), her innocence (the child rape idea), and lastly his guilt (masturbation and murder). Maybe I should stop watching Law and Order SVU. |

My idea is this:
The guy love the girl so much that he goes crazy and commits a crime. Even though he knows that it is his love that made him made, he continues to love the girl and hopes that she will love him too in his absence. Also, I think that he realized that he was just being used for sex but still believes that there is something more to be gained. He loves the girl for all that she is and all she did: "I love the way you put me in the big house (jail)" There's still a lot more to work with but this is all I could think of now. |

Can anyone figure out what is being mumbled in the begining of the non-Antics version? So far all I've got is "Some states of our own satisfaction/objects to which..." and some of the end. |
