I think the song is a very honest look at relationships and how they're almost certainly doomed to failure from the word go. The whole song is basically saying from the moment they met, they started to fall apart. The lyrics seem to back this up, but its more the general feel of the song. |

I think its wrong to belittle someone because of their opinions, and if someone takes something from a song thats good. The song could be ambigious and could be taken a number of ways and if you take something out of it that relates to you then great - whats a song if you must read into it what everyone else does? However the meaning of the song IS about the troubles in N.I. Its what Dolores and the rest of the band have said many a time. Its not judging either side but more the war itself. Much like 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' in that respect. As for the chorus, again ambigious. I would say to me, its the idea of what their fighting for thats lost in their heads. Much of the glory... of the honour isnt actually there anymore, people dont want it,yet they still fight. Thinking its right. |

I always took this song as being told from a point of anguish in a relationship... Nearing the end, but not actually the end. Its like its getting harder and harder and he doesn't want it to end, but sees it happenning and all he wants to do is go back to how it was. How they where. Back at the start when they fell in love, when they'd sit up all night telling each other everything and anything... Well thats what I take from it anyway! |

This is Pete's version of things, or at least a brief insight into what he thinks is/was goin' on. I agree with paulleonard666 that it could come across harsh on Carl, who I love too, but bottom line is, if thats how it went down then what is can be said. Another thing, it is harsh on Carl, but then maybe it isnt... "I'll tell you my story The treachery it bores me Carl and McGee both promised me It would not happen this way Carl is kept sedated The frontman elevated And McGee doing all he can to ruin my band And keep me out the way " This is obviously the verse that pulls no punches, but to me its Pete sayin, all along they said they'd stick by me and McGee has ditched him... and tried to ruin his (Pete's) band. Carl just lost control. He never kicked him out, he just didnt stop it. To me an especially important line is... "I'm welcome back if I give up crack But you gave me my first pipe anyway" That gives you some more insight... Pete I salute you, you are amazing. |

Busted version wasn't that bad, because they stayed true to the original, which from an original standpoint begs the question - why cover a song justto do it identically? However it was the first song busted ever sang in which they did have a 'heavy' guitar sound thus making their stupid jumping about seem a little less... moronic. Obviously the song is a love song and it rules. Truly classic song. |
