| Radiohead – How to Disappear Completely Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I'm sure you all understand that "punches to the face" is a way of relating my description of the feeling of distorted self doubt knowing you aren't out of the clear yet... | |
| Radiohead – How to Disappear Completely Lyrics | 21 years ago |

This is the sonic approximation of the distorted feeling of a suspended eternity in between punches to the face. You've just been struck but know it's not over yet and the next hit is inevitable. |

| Oasis – Acquiesce Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
As the only sane response to an insane world our friendship shall prosper as we manipulate real time events, deal with devious possessing emotions and always get an exciting adventure story or hook filled tune out of it that changes the world around us. An entire generation connecting thru the "we need each other". Epitomizing the hedonistic wanderlust of the mid 90's unlimited potential in the untapped possibilities of mad for it ruthless ambition; this song captures the mood of the era in rather broad impressionistic strokes of helluva marshall stack distorted guitar, thunder-god drums and an untouchable aura of confidence via vague but important lyrics. Noel went for trying to out compose the feeling of a high school graduation march in the ultimate taking on the world world acts of madness every time he picked up a custom painted union jacked guitar. These were the days Oasis were inventing the future even if the ridiculousness of such a comment were a petty redundant hindsight point while listening to these magnum opus 90's british rock songs upon their first imported releases to america. I had to go there in early summer 97 when the air was electric the spirit of Oasis, New Labour, The Verve and all the rest of what was most happening in massive blizzard like quantities. These guys weren't just a band...they were discussed like a dominating force of nature or much closer to the way the steelers are rooted for going into the playoff. This was life and death! I think I needed to go over just to see if it was something in the water that our Hootie And The Blowfish charts were lacking. Why the fuck was this song not the A-Side over Some Might Say! God damn as a statement of intent this motherfucker has teeth and can not be outclassed. The Confidence is mind blowingly inspirational still to this day... wow! |

| Public Image Ltd. – Rise Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Confound all expectation life sets in front of you. How about former Cream and Blind Faith artist Ginger Baker drums on this track and guitar icon Steve Vai plays lead on former Sex Pistol Lydon's track. | |
| U2 – Dirty Day Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I believe "Dirty Day" is a too often over looked mastertrack. The dynamic differences between the Zooropa version and the b-sides edition are truly striking. Like entirely different tunes both running through the same emotions just containing varying levels of desperate mania. An excellent tune for the surreal fog of living in the eye of a hurricane and making it wink to a subtle onlooker. I can relate to the idea of only being able to justify poor choices for so long before consequences and your own adrenalised sense of responsibility catches up. Even if the veins of such a path come from raw desperation. |

| Eminem – Lose Yourself Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Best song ever to get the adrenaline pumping though your veins in an effort to crush all the naysayers when in preperation for the biggest, most dynamic, epicly important job interview of your entire fuckin' life. | |
| The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
"No One I think is in my tree/ I mean it must be high or low..." Top line in all of songwriting history that will forever resonate like nothing else I have heard before or since. Between genius and madness Lennon tapped into primal emotions that have never left my consciousness. Phrases half remembered and dark noises suggest insanity, terror or far worse. Yet the scope and ambition break open the head prooving that pop masterpieces have no limits whatsoever. Listen to the drumbeats from Ringo on the coda while mellotron bleeps bubble out and John screams a varispeeded "Crrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaanberryyyyyyyyyyyy Sauuuuuuuuuuceeeee". It'll make you rethink who invented trip-hop nearly 30 years before Tricky or Portishead wanted to soundtrack repressed memories. |

| The Verve – Bittersweet Symphony Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Favorite most life-affirming, self defining tune that I have ever heard in my entire god damn life. Also the peak of The Verve's career both commercially and in my grandiose opinion artistically. Returned The Verve to glory as the stepped on the princes of britpop Blur and Oasis in '97. How can you not feel something stir inside you as this song builds, climaxes and continues on into the infinite?!?! The lush strings, beeps, bells with that barely audible symphonic Stones sample and the dense layered guitar work driven home by a wicked drum loop. "Mad" Richard Ashcroft was my hero for this empowering anthem about getting fucked up, falling down, getting back up, shruggin' it off and doing shit on your own terms. You sir are a fucking coked-up immortal genius. Now keep on keepin' on brother. |

| The Strokes – Someday Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| The Strokes- "Someday": This Is It, made my time as chief announcer for Edinboro University's WFSE 88.9 all the more memorable. This album prooved their was still music out their that made me feel connected and not jaded or detached from a scene but still a real fan. Casting off an unfortunate indie rock spoiled shell of cynicism. I've always suspected that the perfect way to hear this song would be while dancing with a mini skirted teenie redhead on American Bandstand in '65. We'll See. | |
| R.E.M. – Country Feedback Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Michael Stipe improvises lyrics overtop a desolate, aching chord structure while Peter Buck commands very Neil Young like feedback as accents on certain emotional phrases. This is a tone poem more than a song and has meant a lot to me since the day I broke down acheiving my first musical catharsis. I played this song over and over when I was 15 while my mother was in surgery for breast cancer and my Uncle Fred was being buried after a long fight with brain cancer including many strokes along the way. As Stipe pleads "I NEED THIS" I knew that I did too. | |
| Misfits – Where Eagles Dare Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This song is the best ever tune to play mentally during those teenage summers you can't STOP getting kicked out of the house. I know there were plenty of good reasons but this tune helped me feel justified and triumphant while shattering lamps and being beaten with a rake. Fuck right! Good times great tunes...yeah! |

| Talking Heads – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| "Once In A Lifetime" Live cut Stop Making Sense. In a case of the live version outclassing the original nearly everything on the Stop Making Sense concert film is a masterpiece. The magnum opus of The Head's entire career can be targeted to the moment Byrne is being blown back by the wall of fuzz bridge section right before flying back into the verses more determined than ever. | |
| Oasis – My Big Mouth Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Oasis - "My Big Mouth" Be Here Now. Critically blasted for the past several years this album had more than a few gems on it and should be remembered as THE epitome of a coke album. How much blow would the band have needed to make this song and it's 26 tracks of squealing, stuttering, distorted, twisted, overdriven, vulgar guitars? Fucking feedbags of it hoovered straight to the dome. This band made me see that it was an acceptable goal in life to make the world and everyone in it my bitch. | |
