God, I just love this song... I love how it goes from slow with the cars honking to this fast up beat song, it's the best ever ahhh, I think he's talking about like everyone has this "typical american" side.. that watches sitcoms, loves their parents, etc, also that everyone has different sides to them and just i think commenting on how everything is the way it is... end of story haha |

Yeah man, I saw them play like a week ago, it was amazing but.. i mean they have about 9 years worth of (amazing) older stuff with what like 4 full albums and a few ep's and such... and probably 1 year and 1 album of "new" stuff and at the show they played jsut about every song on their new album, their new stuff consisted of probably over half of their set, and while it was great, i miss their older stuff... |

yeah Im2fat2bninja... i think your right, about the fact that there is no infamous "ugly casanova" who broke into a show and left his notebook, partly because i think on Sad Sappy Sucker theres a version of Parasites called "Parasites will be excited when you're dead" and you can tell isaac is really young... so we know at least parasites was written pre sad sappy sucker... so it was probably just a crazy story to make his whole side project even cooler... though who knows maybe it is true and "parasites" is the only song he wrote.. the world may never know... i love this song and ugly casanova though, depends on my mood but sometimes i prefer them over modest mouse... haha |

I saw them play this song live the other night.. well like a week ago... it was amazing, it was their last song, isaac would play all softly then get all intense, then his A string broke on his guitar and he ripped it off and kept playing, haha it was soooo cool... i think this is just about his childhood early adult hood, with highschool and such, being sarcastic how his parents or something got a divorce and acted like they didn't mean anything, i can related to that.. haha it sucks, but this is a great song.. wow... |

man i think kingleroythompson is really right.. but also i think that there can be this natual hate/love thing giong on, or not necesarily love but not getting along, it's like self righteous me, so wrong... so people can be mean and nice at different times but overall they are mean and nice, you know? and just like birds and worms don't hate eachother but, birds eat worms, it's this natural cycle.... this is a good song, makes me happy haha |

This song is sooooo about how he went to jail... he was charged with "attemptive murder" in oregon a few years ago.... because in oregon any injury involving alcohol is automatically atemptive murder and he ACCIDENTLY hurt this girl who was his friend's.. thumb... and got a DUI so he got put in jail for a couple weeks.... though this song is quite old i dont know when he went to jail... but think about it.. i mean the walls are thick but usually just bars so you hear every sound, you shower once a week or something in jail so everyone stinks... everyone's a voyeur watching them watch me... makes sense people stare at you while your in your cell in jail.. he said in an interview he got hassled a lot but just talked shit and they left him alone haha..
And "i can't be blamed for nothing anymore" he can't .... because he's in jail already! he's at the lowest point almost.. and "LAUGH HARD ITS A LONG WAYS TO THE BANK" in the inteview he said he had to hire a 15,000 dollar lawyer to get him out after 2 weeks.... and the banks "far away" when your in jail... IT"S ABOUT JAIL!!!!!! i think at least... hahah

I think this song is just an analogy, comparing a dramamine trip to a (bad?) relationship.. i mean everyone has said that for the most part... you can read the whole song and be like it makes sense, he's talking about a relationship (almost) and read it over thinking he's talking about tripping on dramamine, or being taken over by it almost...... god i love this song... |

Wow, I totally agree with you modest-mouse... modest mouse's new stuff is awesome... i've been a fan for like 4 years and i'm sooo glad they are finally getting recognition, they deserve it after like 10 years and isaac has said he doesn't want to just sell out, it's a matter of paying the bills, which is true, if you could make money doing the thing you love than thats awesome.. but it sucks cuz i used to wear a modest mouse shirt and people are like... modest mouse??? Now people are like MODEST MOUSE IS AWESOME! when i wear the same shirt haha, but it's all good, i hope people will just realize they have a lot more music out there than their new stuff, THEIR OLDER STUFF IS THE MOST AMAZING STUFF IN THE WORLD!@!!!! haha |

This song came about when Isaac had a "crazy idea" about "the mafia killing you by making you wear styrafoam boots and walk on water" i read in an interview hahah cuz your feet would float so youd drown upside down... and... It's all nice on ice, because you dont have to worry about drowing upside down, but then the whole song has a different theme it seems on god and athiests and what not, this song is awesome ... i love how the drums and bass kick in all unexpectedly half way through |

This song is awesome... but i just can't help that i love their older stuff sooo much more, it's so much crazier... I think this song is about you how you've got one life... you've got once chance basically to live and what not... and the "I've seen so many ships sail in, just to head back out again and go off sinking..." I think that's talking about how people are fragile, you can see someone walk in your house then they are like i'm leaving! and get in a car wreck and die, you know, and you never see them again... haha |

Cowboy Dan is about Isaac's step father. His name is Dan Carson, I believe. From what I hear he's a big alcoholic, and got all mean... hence the "drinks and gets mean."
I think the "everytime you think your talking/ every time you think your walking" etc... That part I think has to do with how he's an alcoholic and thinks he's getting things done and being a good person but really he's doing absolutely nothing...
Then the "I didn't move out of the city the city moved to me..." Issac used to live in Isaaquah Washington and was saying how it turned into this big city and he hated it so he left...
Just commenting on some shit i know about, this is an amazing song and to see it played live boggles your brain... |
