i'd have to say the movie theory is correct, and i hightly doubt the song is about jesus..... in fact, when i think of this song, Jesus is the least likely explanation for the meaning. i love this song!
I think the reason American Idiot is my favorite Green Day cd yet is because it is a rock opera, and it reminds of Quadrophenia by the Who, possibly the greatest rock album of all time. |

if you're a lord of the rings obsesser like me, you can read the lyrics and it clicks in your head: This song is about the Lord of the Rings! The first line came directly from a famous poem written by Tolkien (all that glitters is gold) and the line "There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving" is referring to the elves leaving middle earth to go over the sea. |

smells like teen spirit is an awesome song, but the best ever? I don't think so. Even Kurt himself became tired of it. And Kurt Cobain, god father of punk? Are you crazy? Don't get me wrong, I love Kurt Cobain, but you people are making it sound like he lead the punk rock movement! I would say the godfather of punk would have to be someone like Joey Ramone or Sid Vicious, from the 70s. |

i would say this song is about Kurt not caring about what other people think. Yes, there are a few references to drugs (help me inhale, mend it with you) but not EVERY single lyric is about drugs like some people are thinking. |
