Sixx: A.M. – Tomorrow Lyrics 15 years ago
LMAO at using a standard image of a terrible life (in this case, the poor in Africa) to excuse any wrongdoings in another person's life. Most people listen to what they can relate to. Not all songs people listen to involve drug addictions, but to write off any dissenting subject matter for the lyrics of a song as being pretentious simply because it doesn't measure up to homelessness and poverty is asinine. It would be just as ostentatious to do nothing but listen to songs about how hard life is in an impoverished country. Also, this album is about overcoming the hardships experienced by an excess lifestyle, not wallowing in self-pity.

The sound clip during the bridge that goes "Everybody's acting like we can do anything and it don't matter what we do. Maybe we gotta' be extra careful because maybe it matters more than we even know" is from the movie Casualties of War. Kinda fits in with the other clips from Civil War. Just felt like mentioning that.

Guns N' Roses – One In A Million Lyrics 17 years ago
Actually, the connotation of the term "nigger" holds a lot more water than its denotation. If I go up to somebody and say "You crazy nigger" in jest, it's certainly a lot different than "You stupid nigger" if I were to say it in an angry and serious tone of voice. Rather than looking at the word at face value, there are other factors that come into play, such as the tone in one's voice, the events leading up to the saying of that word, and the person's personal beliefs. Accusing someone of being a racist for simply saying a five-letter word, regardless of its connotations given to it by society, is far more shallow than somebody using it for controversial purposes or even simply because they don't see the big deal of using that word in the first place.

I don't get how the fact that blacks were oppressed suddenly justifies prolonging hatred. People act as if it was our generation's fault for slavery. We shouldn't be blamed for our ancestors and factors which we had no control over. White people say "nigger" all the time, but that doesn't make them racist.

Insane Clown Posse – Slim Anus Lyrics 19 years ago
Actually, ICP disses Eminem because of something that happened back in 1995. Eminem was handing out flyers for a party he was having, and it said that ICP might make an appearance. Violent J responded by saying "Fuck you" and he wouldn't play at Eminem's party. This hurt Eminem's pride, so he started going after ICP. In 1998, on the Howard Stern Show, Howard Stern had Eminem on. Howard was naming different artists/bands from Detroit, and when he came across ICP, Eminem said "Who? Oh, them guys, we used to beat their asses back in the day," or something along those lines. The next day, Howard called ICP on the show and told them about what Eminem had said, to which Violent J responded "We don't even know that little bitch!" That's when ICP got Twizted (Jamie Madrox, to be exact) to do a voice impression of Eminem, and thus Slim Anus was born. Since then, it's been a feud between the two.

Tool – Lateralus Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay, umm, my last comment was deleted because of server issues, so I guess I'll have to repost it.

I obtained this from www.songfacts.com:

"The line "Black then white are all I see in my infancy, red and yellow then came to be" has to do the the Maori Aborigines from Australia who at first did art work only with black and white paints then later discovered how to make red and yellow, which they incorporated in their art. The "Spiral" would probably be either the earth twisting on its axis or its rotation around the sun. (thanks, Jake - New Jersey, NJ)"

Seems to make sense if you look at it from the surface. Going deeper would unlock new meanings, but that's most likely where Tool got the idea to write such lines from.

Abortion isn't sad. XD Killing a baby would be sadder if you actually gave birth and spent time with it, growing to love it and whatnot. We cut down trees, and those are living things, but most people (keyword: most) don't have a problem with that. It's just because the baby is going to be a human that people are going apeshit. Just goes to show how conceited people are. :-/

P.O.D. – Abortion Is Murder Lyrics 19 years ago
Well, that's your interpretation. I highly doubt P.O.D. would be using metaphors like that. This could be representing anything, but that wasn't P.O.D.'s intended meaning.

Probably, but this goes back to how close-minded everybody is. The majority of pro-abortion states are Democratic states. Most of the anti-abortion states are Republican. If people just thought for themselves, we wouldn't have statistics like this to show (which would probably be better). I'm not dissing Republicans or Democrats, but if these people honestly do whatever their party says, they're disenfranchised supporters and don't deserve a say.

I agree that in odd cases like rape or what you said about the mafia abortion is ok, but I just think saying the baby can die because it is a parasite is wrong. And is everybody who believes the bible closed minded Philadelphia? We act on our morals, you yours, and I respect yours, I dont agree. In the second debate when John Kerry was talking about pro-life people, he said he respected their views but didn't agree with them. I am the same way from the opposite side. Some of you are getting way too mad at what others believe."

But when the morals of one group of people conflict with the morals of others, this is where debates like the issue of abortion come in. If it's in the best interest of the nation to allow an abortion, then good. If the majority votes against it, so be it. Let there be reforms as time goes on.

People in the Bible tend to be close-minded in the sense that religion generally does not allow the capacity for thought. After all, even interesting lucid dreaming is a sin in Christianity just because God makes our dreams to send us messages, so controlling them would be very sinful. XD When you can't even control your subconcious dreams, being close-minded seems to be the fit explanation.

im not trying to stereotype, i ment those that couldn't. First you allow abortion, then whats next euthinasia? I'm not a bigot. You cant call everyone with a different opinion a bigot."

This is gonna be off-topic, but this comment made me laugh. I call anybody with a different opinion than me a bigot? There are plenty of people here that support abortion, but I don't call them a bigot. As a matter of fact, you are the second person I called a bigot throughout the entire time I've been here. You and someone else saying men have no say on this subject, whether they support it or not. If you're not trying to stereotype, then don't comeback with some remark that I'm calling everybody with a different opinion than me a bigot. It only makes yourself look worse.

Killing a baby is not the same as killing a full-grown adult. A baby requires the mother to survive. The analogy here is an unborn baby is to a mother as a parasite is to a host. It is still the mother's and is, therefore, her right to determine whether or not she chooses to receive an abortion.

"by BlackLungFever on 01-04-2005 @ 06:26:25 AM
so much incoherent, mindless shouting. this song does little to support intelligent discussion of an incredibly complex and multi-layered issue. If you believe that God has a plan for everyone then you understand that abortion is part of that plan whether you like it or not. Deuteronomy 1:39 says, "Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it." By the way, it is possible to be Christian and be pro-choice. The Bible clearly states that there should be separation of Church and state. Only people can know the Lord. Not a kitten, not a Cadillac, not a country. Therefor it is up to the individual people of that country to make their own decisions."

I think most of the people in this discussion were pointing out that God cannot have a plan for everyone because it contradicts the idea of free will. How can people make their own decisions, by the way, if we go by whatever the Bible says?

Wow, where do I begin?

"by JackBlackout on 08-06-2002 @ 04:20:20 AM
Wow, ICP's is the best. FUCK FUCK FUCK! TITTIES PUSSY BALLS! BALLS NUTS ANUS COCK!!
Christ, Give ME a million dollars!

It takes so much talent to come up with deep lyrics like this. I would never think of something like "fuck everything" in a million years. And you know that if it were any other word over and over, it would just sound lame, flat and repetitive. But not FUCK! Yeah, the more you say fuck the smarter you sound!

Want to hear my theory about the origin of the juggalo people? It all started during the ice age when several retarded cavemen - who were too incompetent to hunt for food and were thereby shunned by the clan - decided to ban together. I can see it now...

Ug: "You be juggalo! You belong to group! Uhghuhrgh..."

Grug: Wha? Me be in group? "Juggalo for LAAAAAHHHHF" (life)

Ug: "Got to talk about own balls, see you around cave Grug."

OK, so you get the picture. But why do people listen to ICP? Many of them use the excuse of "hey, it's funny as hell!". Well fine, but if it's supposed to be funny stop walking around like a bunch of baddasses. Nobody would be walking around wearing a Weird Al T-shirt talking all of this shit (yes, Weird Al is gay too). You jugga-hoes know that if you ran into a real gangster on the street you'd piss your pants.

And stop talking like you're black. It just makes you like the white trash that you are (we enslaved them for 200 years, we can at LEAST let them have ebonics). I recomend you all get a reality check and watch the movie "White Boys"."

I noticed how you like to insult the intelligence of juggalos and juggalettes. Like Eminem's fans are any better. The intelligence of one person is not affected by the music that they listen to. As a matter of fact, ICP holds more of a purpose than Eminem. Eminem is here to develop some character ("The Slim Shady LP," "The Marshall Mathers LP,") and talk about his lifestyle ("The Eminem Show," "Encore"). If I wanted to see a character developed and go through life, I would read a book or pick up a comic and fire away. Check out some of the comments on Eminem's page and tell me that they are not as stupid as we are. You also want us to watch the movie "White Boys," probably impressing the idea that you're a racist. Either that or a wife-beater. After all, isn't that what Eminem promotes? You know, only before begging for forgiveness for his actions ("Encore"), even after repeatedly stating that he "just don't give a fuck" ("The Slim Shady LP," "The Marshall Mathers LP)"? Not all ICP fans act "badass," by the way. So how are we juggalos anymore badass than Eminem? You don't think the mainstream has a larger effect than the underground? Besides, Eminem is the poster boy for the San Quentin State Prison.

By the way, your theory sucks.

Ok..... MyAntiDrug........ and what would these meanings be other than hate, sex, and just plain ol' cussing for the hell of it?

Call me stupid if you want but when someone with an IQ of 165 can't find another meaning, I'd tend to believe that there just isn't one there.

Woohoo! Look! I wrote an ICP song:

I fucking hate my life. I hate myself. I hate this world. I hate all the cures out there, even the uninvented ones. Fuck the cure for cancer. Fuck this life. Fuck all my wasted opportunites. Fuck me, fuck you, fuck the establishment, fuck school, fuck it all. I wanna see it all go up in one huge, smoking, flaming, burning, bright fucking red blaze of glory. Right now, all I can picture in my head is one big, huge middle finger, raised and defiant, proclaiming my anger, cynicism, and rage to the entire world. There is no point to anything in the long run. No one can hope to do anything in this life. No one will ever make a difference in this world. We're all fucked in the end. Even Ghandi was just polishing the brass on the Titanic. Life is one big, huge load of bullshit wrapped up in a pretty bow, but hey, some people really like pretty bows. Well I don't. Fuck bows. I've never been a girly girl. I fucking hate bows. And ribbons. Fuck ribbons too.

So what if it doesn't rhyme? FUCK RHYMES! Rhyming takes brains and knowing lotsa words, and yo, those are just too fucking dorky to be cool, right?"

I guess you promote a communism or some sort of overprotective government because all songs have to rhyme or else they automatically suck. You didn't write an ICP song; you wrote to us how well of an understanding you have of music. Like most other people out there, you listen to mainstream, and mainstream isn't supposed to have a meaning. It's there for the hell of it. Like Violent J once said, only %10 of their songs have messages. The rest is about having fun. Fun, you ask? Yes, fun. Should I give you the definition? Hell no, you don't deserve it. But, here, I'll give you a link: www.dictionary.com

How is that talent? I could've written that back in fifth grade.... and hey its not MY fault you like music that sucks. As far as I'm concerned, its not my dislike of ICP that's BS, it's ICP that's BS.

The song means nothing but hate, their songs are nothing but crap. Get over it. Grow up. I bet you still laugh at potty jokes."

You claim that you came here because someone told you to. So you are now a doormat, but tell us that you're a free-thinker because you can write a song that only a goth such as yourself could come up with? This song comes from their highest-rated album (4/5 stars according to AMG), and yet you're sitting here telling us they're full of BS? I guess you lack good judgement of music, go back to listening to Eminem's latest "masterpiece," "Encore."

"by lahdeefrigginda on 06-15-2003 @ 02:16:20 AM
Fine then. Listen to your music. Brandish it as genius. Just don't be surprised when the truth dawns on you and you hear something that is truly beautiful, meaningful, emotional music.

Sometimes, meaning transcends words."

I do not require Albert Einstein to write a song with all of his theories and tell me it is good music. I do not judge a song because it is "genius." But, then again, I guess you wouldn't know what it's like to be explorative because you're still living in the era of Stalin, where communism and lack of capacity for free thought reigned supreme.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is great. It's a shame how some people can't fully appreciate some of the work that goes into creating such masterpieces.

Looking at some of the comments posted here, I came across one that pointed out how nobody wants to listen to a song where a woman buys a stairway to heaven. Let's see if I can find it... Ah! Here we go:

"by led zeppelin sucks on 09-29-2004 @ 09:47:12 PM
I'm with jackfrost. this song so freakin' stupid nobody cares if she buys a stairway to heaven. This song is so dumb man. And the lead singer sounds like a girl"

Haha, this is priceless. Ever try reading between the lines? Not literally, either. I had to remind you because you take everything so seriously. This song wasn't literally meant to be about someone buying a stairway to heaven. It's leeway to a message about drugs.

I also noticed that you pointed out how the lead singer sounds like a girl. First of all, it would be a woman, not a girl. (That was in reference to his age, by the way.) Two, it is simply him singing at a higher pitch than most other men would sing at. Is there something wrong with being unique? Would you like us to all wear suits to school/work every day and we could all walk in proper military formation because being unique just doesn't make the cut? Three, what is wrong with him sounding at a higher voice than everybody else? This goes back to how you would like everybody to be mindless drones because experimenting with different vocal techniques is too difficult and results in the creation of bad music. (That was sarcastic, by the way.) Four, his vocal technique used in this song was not a complete failure. On www.allmusic.com, go to "Genre," "Rock," "Heavy Metal," and look at the Top Ten list. Tell me what you see. "Stairway to Heaven" is there. The sound quality of this song did not suck, as you pointed out.

Back to his vocal choice: it was perfect for the theme of this song. It's melodic, it wasn't meant to be some grindcore song. A higher voice just generally goes better with a ballad such as this, deal with it. I should also point out how his vocals weren't a complete failure, as Philadelphia Eagles:

Notice how Robert Plant is on the top of the list. Not only did he make the cut for the top vocalists, but he also landed at number one. Just goes to show that your sexist stereotyping won't make it by down here.

Why don't we hear from you what you consider good rock? Certainly you cannot be anti-rock as a whole, seeing as how it paved the way for the Pop 40 Britney Spears and Madonna shit that you listen to today. Led Zeppelin was the first heavy metal band, developing a whole new style of music that would later turn out to be one of the most controversial, durable, and successful styles in history. There is no need for comments like "This song sucks!" Try to be constructive here.

JoJo – Leave (Get Out) Lyrics 19 years ago
Not that this song sucks as a song, but she's only thirteen. It would be different coming from someone who was married or maybe had been dating years on end, as it would have made a bigger impact on her, but she is only thirteen years old.

I am fourteen (almost fifteen), and I would have to say that breaking up is not as emotionally scarring as she makes it sound like. Obviously, cheating is not a fun thing to deal with when you are the victim, but (again), she is only thirteen. Maybe some people like the fact that she is young and, as a result, they find it easier to relate, but I still can't stress enough how she is only thirteen.

Beprules has the right idea, in this case. She is still a bit too young to have a full understanding of love. Most people don't even know what the word "love" means until their late high school years. Cheating is a serious issue, but, at such a young age, you would have to question whether it is really a big deal or not. She is not even high school age and she is already landing hits on Radio Disney encouraging young teenagers that the concept of love is simplistic and that it is not as deep as it really is. Love is not simple, it requires much understanding. At such a young age as she is, the concept would not be fully understood by her person.

As I am also at a young age, I do not yet fully understand it, either. Then again, some people like the issue that she is tackling and some people don't. Maybe, if she was older (sixteen at the least), this song would have more relevance and more emotion to back it rather than a young teenager's blind understanding of love.

Avril Lavigne – Don't Tell Me Lyrics 19 years ago
"Guys are so hard to trust."

Sounds like Avril has taken up some sort of bigotry here, stereotyping guys. Surely, there has been stereotyping against women, as well, but why can't we just stop? So she has a love issue and a break-up is carried out, but that does not mean she has to blame the entire gender for her problems. After my first break-up, I didn't run around saying "I hate every girl out there because they are so hard to trust and they lie!" The fact is, they don't, and nor do guys.

There's nothing wrong with the rest of the song, however. People have break-ups so they sing about it. Maybe sexism isn't the solution in this case. After all, she isn't the only one who's ever suffered from a break-up before. People actually commit suicide over these things, and some people just pull through. Singing about the loss of a loved one is fine (if not encouraged), but when we have role modles out there who run around putting bigotry in their lead singles, you know something's wrong.

Even worse, this is not the only song on the album where she makes sexist remarks. Maybe she should have said "He was so hard to trust" or something other than stereotyping guys because of the actions of one. She makes it sound like men are to blame for everything, willfully ignoring the fact that there are prisons for women and female suicide bombers all across the world.

Let's leave it at this: people are the worst.
