Arcade Fire – Windowsill Lyrics 19 years ago
This song sounds like someone who doesn't want to live in the world that they've been given, or raised in, etc. "don't want to live in my father's house no more", with house meaning world.

he is saying too that things are only getting worse, not better--
"the tide is high, and it's rising still
and i don't want to see it at my windowsill"

The Decemberists – The Engine Driver Lyrics 19 years ago
Is it just me, or do the main verses in this song sound very similar to Radiohead's "Knives Out" from Amnesiac?

Death Cab for Cutie – Hindsight Lyrics 20 years ago
My last boyfriend broke up with me after exactly three years. And since I was at his house, 200 miles away from my own, I had to make that drive of shame home, alone, on that open country road. It's like it's FOR me.

Death Cab for Cutie – We Looked Like Giants Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is about fucking in the backseat of a crappy car. But man, has any other band ever spoken about it so eloquently? He makes this thing which is so unpure (think Tiny Vessels-- she was beautiful but she didn't mean a thing to me) into something beautiful. Still, when they play this live, that bridge nearly brings me to tears because it's so passionate.

Death Cab for Cutie – A Lack of Color Lyrics 20 years ago
Ahhh they sang this at the Fall Tour 04 at the Glass House in Pomona, CA, and it was so quiet and everybody just sang along... and it was all off-key and out of tune but by the end, everyone was holding hands, and tearing up. It was really a beautiful thing, and I doubt anything I will ever experience again.

To assume that this song is only about weather is to demean everything that Death Cab talks about in the lyrics of their music!

Death Cab for Cutie – I Was a Kaleidoscope Lyrics 20 years ago
hee, this song is a narrative for anyone who has to wear prescriptive lenses in the snow/rain! That wetness causes all kinds of things to be reflected over and over, and it feels like you've become a kaleidoscope! "The snow on my lenses distorting the image of what was only one of you, and I didn't know which one to address as all your lips moved"

My favorite line has got to be "And I got left there too!"

Jenny Lewis – Run Devil Run Lyrics 20 years ago
This is a great set-up for what may become the best album of the year (2006). It sets up a folksy sound that pervades the entire album without being too overwhelming. The voices of the Watson Twins complement Jenny Lewis' soft voice so well!

Jenny Lewis – Handle with Care (Traveling Wilburys cover) Lyrics 20 years ago
This is probably the only time you'll get a chance to hear Jenny Lewis, Ben Gibbard, Conor Oberst, and M.Ward all on a single track together. This once in a lifetime oppotunity is NOT to be missed! It's such a sweet cover!

Jenny Lewis – Rabbit Fur Coat Lyrics 20 years ago
This is probably the most sentimental song on the album. Frankly, I'm shocked that the album title was chosen because of this track. It's so personal, and you can hear it in Lewis' voice. The fact that she's offering her bittersweet past up for all her fans to hear is really a treat that shouldn't be taken for granted.

Bright Eyes – The Calendar Hung Itself . . . Lyrics 20 years ago
It's "You Are My Sunshine" for the 21st century, and there's something a little murderous in its tone. It remains one of my favorite Bright Eyes songs, and still gives me chills when I hear it.

Bright Eyes – A Scale, a Mirror, and Those Indifferent Clocks Lyrics 20 years ago
Fevers and Mirrors remains my favorite Bright Eyes albums, and while it's hard to choose a favorite track, no matter how many times I hear this one, I still love it. It never gets old. "and language just happened, it was never planned, and it's inadequate to describe where i am" or, when he plays it live and he says "hers were green like july EXCEPT WHEN I MADE HER CRY they were reeeed.." That live emphasis is sooo intense!

Bright Eyes – The Center of the World Lyrics 21 years ago
two pills just weren't enough
the alarm clock's goin' off
but you're not wakin' up
this isn't happening

This particular portion of the song almost always nearly brings me to tears. It feels like a suicide. It sounds like a suicide. And the reaction is like a suicide.

Of course, because I havne't taken the rest of the song into account, maybe I'm dead wrong.

U2 – Vertigo Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is just a pop song. It's not supposed to say anything revolutionary. I'm sure the second single will "mean more" to you poles-up-your-asses bastards.

I'm sure Bono knows that four in SPanish "cuatro"... but thinking of it in my head, "catorce" just sounds damn better.

Death Cab for Cutie – Photobooth Lyrics 21 years ago
She loved him in the summertime, but she didn't want it to last forever.

"I lost track and then those words were said.... and it was pretty clear that it was hardly love"

He told her that he loved her, but she didn't want anything to do with that. She just wanted to fuck him all summer and be done with it.

Death Cab for Cutie – A Lack of Color Lyrics 21 years ago
It made me sick when I saw this song was mentioned on The OC last night.

This song is so raw, and it's a desperate plea for forgiveness. When we all sang it at the show right back to Ben in Pomona, we were all in the moment, we all felt it, we were all a little out of tune, but all of use were begging for something ourselves.
