The Veils – Vicious Traditions Lyrics 18 years ago
Oh yeah- this song is used in the new movie "Mr. Brooks" with Kevin Costner, Dane Cook, and Demi Moore. I love the music video montage they created with it, very dramatic. Check it out on Dane's website in the video section http://danecook.com/

Great song! Although I'm pretty sure some of these lyrics are wrong. I think it says "here lies our son Joseph" not "awesome Joseph" I'd submit correctrions, but I'm not sure of the rest of the mistakes so I'll give you that and let you run with it. Anyways, love the anti-war pro-peace message.

Led Zeppelin – When the Levee Breaks Lyrics 19 years ago
If you're like me, you love knowing the little details about how it was produced and what not. For the history and some cool tidbits about how it was recorded go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_The_Levee_Breaks
Also, more history about the Great Flood of Mississippi in 1927 and this song: When the flood happened, blacks were forced by gun point to stay and pile sand bags to prevent the water from doing further damage. The works of the original song were done at night in the shabby camps where they stayed. Plant had this in his record collection and now we have the Zep version. One of the best.

D'Angelo – Untitled (How Does It Feel) Lyrics 19 years ago
This song isn't about sex, it's about making love. It's all about him lovin' and be totally into his girl. He isn't concerned with just his sexual "needs," he is all about pleasing his woman right now. "Girl it's all about you, have it your way" "How does it feel" "Love to make you wet" This song is amazing, everytime I hear it (I agree with Musical_Jenny, the 7 minute version is the real song here) I get so sucked into it, and I kind of like how it ends real abruptly, because it feels like I just woke up from a dream. Love it.

People In Planes – Falling By The Wayside Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm in love with this song- heard it on one of my favorite shows "The 4400" and thank God! From my point of view, this song is all about giving into your inhibitions. It's okay to be safe- but you can venture out if you want to...because you can. Being on top of your game, on top of the world, it becomes easy to stray away, a little or a lot. All of a sudden your losing control and diving in to what you promised yourself you wouldn't.

Nelly Furtado – ... On The Radio (Remember the Days) Lyrics 19 years ago
I identify with this song as a part of me that transitioned once I realized I was so much better off than what I was when I was with my ex boyfriend. All I wanted to do was please him and never think of myself. I'm so glad we aren't together anymore because even though it broke my heart at the time, if I was still with him I would be stuck in my hometown forever and he would have held me back from pursuing my dreams which I'm doing right now. This song makes me feel good whenever I listen to it, I'm so glad she released this!

I think it's Feh-tee-cheh-rrah, like that one guy said. Anyways, I love this song, very sexual....what do you think "the machine" is? I try to think of things, but I can't come up with a good one that fits. I love the Deftones' sex-rock style!

Butthole Surfers – Whatever (I Had A Dream) Lyrics 20 years ago
I agree with sara_blue_shoes! Anyways, yeah, I've got both awesome cd's. A classic soundtrack. This song is addicting. I can't listen to it once, I end up listening to it a zillion times in a row, especially when I try to interperet it. I seriously want to know how they came up with this song! Dreams are crazy and totally odd at times, but some of this makes no sense...Why are John Wayne and Bette Davis Montagues as opposed to Capulets...I don't know. I think "juliet is up in heaven, pocket full of pills" portrays how emotionally crushed she was. Her parents were going to throw her this wedding, or disown her, and so she decided to "die" and then wakes up to Romeo committing suicide. So, if she had lived I guess she probably would have been somewhat a basket case. I don't know what the right lyrics are but I think dontpanic42 is probably right. The "official lyrics" up there can't be right. But I'll assume dontpanic42's lyrics are right so: Romeo and his cousins/friends are sort of a wild bunch as opposed to the more seemingly aristocratic image of his elder Montagues. So, maybe they mean he wouldn't be good even for some Vegas girl (no offense to Vegas girls), or something. What do YOU think????

The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Lyrics 20 years ago
I love this song, even though it's an intro. I'm a huge Beatles fan, and when I was younger (I was a full-fledged Beatles fan and expert at 9 years old on account of being raised on the music my dad listened to and I liked the Beatles the best), I liked their earlier stuff. But as I grew older, I started getting more in to the post 1965 years stuff. So as for the ongoing feud, I believe there is no "greatest band in the world" because not everyone has the same musical taste. I don't mean to sound rude, but please drop it. We're posting about the meaning of song, not the band. That's what I came here to find out!
That said, the Billy Shears theories are interesting, maybe we'll officially find out since Paul and Ringo are both still alive.
Today, the LIVE 8 LIVE concerts were broadcasted on MTV and VH1; and for the concert in London, it was kicked off with Sgt. Pepper's LHCB with Paul taking lead vocals and guitar and backed by U2 with Bono singing John's bridge and harmonies. Now, I'm not the biggest U2 fan but, I have to say it was a great performance! I would've killed to be there! Please go to www.one.org and www.aolmusic.com to find out about the important cause and sign your name on the petition that will be present to the G8 very soon.

System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics 20 years ago
The song: very moving in my opinion. I love the way Serj ennunciates the lyrics: "YOU depend on OUR protection, still you feed us LIES from the table cloth" To me it means that the gov't never tells us what their true motives of why they choose to send us to war, and many of the soldiers don't truly know why they're fighting. "The reference to "the party" takes is significant to me because I saw a documentary on MTV where they were following several soldiers around, and they said things like, "there's nothing like having the right songs to fire you up" and they'd be playing "The Roof Is On Fire" in the tanks. I found that to be pretty offensive. I just hope that the rest of the world doesn't totally think we're heartless.

The Band: I love System, they are very much ahead of our time musically, kind of like Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin back in their hay-day. And I have to say that it's nice to hear songs about things other than true love or broken hearts. They are totally origonal, and aren't afraid to experiment and do their own thing.

Now for the political debate: First off, Drama_queen_KBA (maybe from a European country? That's my guess) has a point, we aren't exactly making any friends around the world, which really is not a smart thing to do. So don't totally disregaurd her comments. Honestly, until I saw Farenheight 9/11, I realized I had no idea why we were in Iraq. Maybe it's good that we got Saddam out of power, but if you watch some of the documentaries and interviews with Iraqis, and the majority say that at first they were glad that we came, but now we are almost making things worse, or in some way returning them to their previous state of unhappiness. It makes me sad to hear that other countries assume we're all like Bush, and I am definitely not like him at all. I live in Texas, and believe me, TX being his home state does NOT make this place "Bush Country." Actually, 95% of the people I know (in TX) didn't vote for him. FYI, it's not like everyone loves him here, in the election polls for TX you might be surprised to find out how many people voted anti-Bush. But sadly, we know it's going to go "red" because so many southerners die-hard Republicans (no offense to the reps out there). Maybe Kerry wasn't the best candidate, but at least he actually served in Nam, unlike Dubya who copped out and didn't do a medical exam (or was it a drug test? Something along those lines.) so he couldn't get sent out to fight.

To quote the awesome View Askiew flick "Dogma": Elvis was an artist, but that didn't stop him from joining the service in time of war. And that's why he is The King, and you're a schmuck." :-)

Papa Roach – Revenge Lyrics 20 years ago
I agree with psycochic, she wasn't just senselessly doing it. "...abused with forks knives and razorblades"
Aside from that, I L-O-V-E the bridge with the kick ass percussion and how the words are sung. One of my favorites on Infest.

Sublime – Doin' Time Lyrics 20 years ago
This song takes on an entirely different meaning to me. My dog recently died, she was so dear to me. The greatest dog ever. Me and my dog Steffi had a relationship alot like Brad's and Lou Dog's. When I listen to this song, when he mentions Lou Dog and when he's barking in the backround, I think about her, and the fun times we had together "livin easy." Plus, on a really cheesey note, LBC rhymes with my town's in initials, "SMT," so when I hear him say the chorus, I'm thinking "...well qualified to represent the SMT me, me and Steffi..." Stupid? Maybe, but it helps me remember the good times we had together. Anywas, that what the song means to me.

Led Zeppelin – Kashmir Lyrics 20 years ago
I'm sure that no one will read all the way to the 800 and some odd comments BUT, just in case....to clear up the confusion about "Come With Me" song with Puff Daddy (on the Godzilla soundtrack), it wasn't Tom Morello (one awesome guitarist I should add.) on guitar. I saw a special on MTV when it came out, and it WAS Jimmy Page on guitar. He actually re-recorded the guitar backing, and sent it to Puffy.
Also I'd like to add that I think TOOL sampled a part of Kashmir for their song "Sober." Which may be one of the reasons why Maynard James Keenan actually did a live version of Kashmir with Jane's Addiction for one show on the Lollapalooza tour a year or 2 ago. It kicked ass! Download it if you can, definitley worth the listen!

The Roots – The Seed (2.0) Lyrics 21 years ago
I never thought about that. I just assumed he was talking about how he wants to keep his legacy alive by impregnating different women (sounds a lot like Screamin' Jay Hawkins' life), even though he is supposedly with this one girl "fertilize another behind my lover's back." And he's been tested for std's so he knows he won't be giving the girl(s) a disease.
One thing I don't get though, is the line "I lick the opposition because she don't take no pill" just offhand, it sounds like he pleases the girl just with foreplay because she's not on birth control, but that goes against the point (or at least the way I see the point) of the song. Can anybody explain? I'm probably just misinterpreting the song.
Awesome song, and totally original just like The Roots!

I love this song. It's so silly. Back in highschool, me and my friends were on a trip with our choir, and we have a "talent show" (basically who can make the biggest ass out of themselves), and we dressed up like guys and made shirts with our boy band name on it. We made up a really funny dance to it and lypsynched this song. We were a hit. So the next year we did Say it Don't Spray It with waterguns as our props. This song brings me back to those memorable days and makes me laugh! The movie was hilarious, too! I can't stand boy bands, and that was the ULTIMATE parody. I kinda liked the tv show too, even though it didn't air for too long :(
Oh yeah, I was Mickey (the wannabe rapper kid).

311 – Amber Lyrics 21 years ago
Regardless of whether or not it's about chicks or weed, this song is special to me because this was like, the summer anthem of 2002 for me and my friends. We went out to a friend's private river property and got the radio out to this cd and just chilled and had a careless, fun, awesome summer. So when I hear this song, it brings me back to those moments with my friends, just hanging out and being lazy in the summer. It always seemed to be playing, so we labled it out "summer anthem" for '02. I wish I could go back to those days!!! Thanks 311!

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Venice Queen Lyrics 21 years ago
I had no idea about the personal meaning behind it, and it makes total sense. It always gave me a totally opposite view of that...sort of. This song reminds me of a long time friend of mine, we've known eachother since diaper days. She is well liked by all who meet her, and sometimes I feel kind of pushed to the side, taken for granted. One of her biggest flaws is her flakiness. She means well, but it's just a natural flaw she has. This song sometimes represents my jealousy that arises from time to time.

"Come again just to start a fresh/Once again to find a home/In the moment of the meantime" to me represents those moments of total closeness that we share, but then quickly drifts away because she is constantly on the move.

"Do it all then it all again" plus the 4th verse just reminds me of how it's so hard to pin her down in one place to finally catch up with her and have "us" time.

Then in the 2nd half of the song, it represents how everyone is so quick to tell her how much they love her and how great she is, and she gets told this so often that she is almost like a "queen." She's not conceded at all, she's just surrounded by tons of people who constantly want to be with her; she has that magnetic effect on people I guess. But I too, want to tell her that I love her, and that I miss her, but my words just get caught in the sea of all the other voices saying the same thing. I, being her oldest friend sometimes wish I'd get a little extra time and effort into our friendship because we truly know eachother inside and out, and have been through a whole lot together.
Anyways, that's a totally different take on this song than it's original intended meaning, but that's the beauty of music: you can take it for whatever it means to you.

One of my friends recently told me she thought it was about a girl getting raped. I know all the words but never paid attention to them I suppose. I can definitely see that now that I look at them. That and Jabba's explanation makes more sense to me than the self harm theory, but I guess we'll never know for sure.

Coldplay – Politik Lyrics 21 years ago
Last year's live Grammy performance of this song was amazing. But because it was more of a non-pop kind of song, it definitely didn't get the credit it deserved. I thought that performance should've gone down in the history books. They were very into the song, it was so intense and moving. It didn't seem like, "oh ok, we're going to play this song that we've played a hundred times before." That was the first time I had ever heard it, and it was such a powerful performance I was almost hypnotized by it, like I was drawn into it completely. That is definitely a big plus, when a band can sound great live, and they sure as hell kicked live music ass!

Coldplay – The Scientist Lyrics 21 years ago
Actually, I take an entirely different view on this song. This song reminds me of high school, or actually just my school years in general. It came out my senior year, and it just captured all of the things I've gone through while in school with losses of classmates and personal things I went through while I was in school. It makes me think the typical, "if I only knew knew then what I know now" thoughts. School was not easy, and saying goodbye to all of my friends at the end of the year made me realize how easy it was to take all of that time together for granted. Anyways, this song is obvious that this song brings out lots of different and strong emotions in everyone, and I thought it interesting that my view was sort of different than most people's.
