You only think it haunts you bill, because you're allowing it to. Anyway that wasn't what I came to say. I don't understand why MORE people haven't remarked on how uterly beautiful this song is. I'm not a big fan of U2 but my brother is (you might find him floating around here somewhere) and he has almost all the albums so I do listen to them but normally only the mainstream songs or typically popular ones (ie One, Beautiful Day) but this song just LEAPED off the latest album. It's utterly beautiful. I especially love the lyrics "But you can’t be numb for love The only pain is to feel nothing at all" |

Though I find the above comment almost...child like...I can see some truth in it because I did read somewhere that Anthony and his girlfriend Yohanna Logan split up because he wanted kids and she didn't (amongst other disagreements I assume). That thought always comes to my head when i think of this song. (Note that I said I read it somewhere, so I don't know if it's all that reliable.) |

This song makes so much sense now that I read the comment at the top of the page (the second one to be precise). I've never really liked it but it seems to have much more sentimental value then I initially thought. Very beautiful. |

| From what Ive read, boozm was right in that the song is about a friend of Anthonys called Gloria who died of cancer. And the connection to Venice came from Gloria again. Apparently, Gloria lived inland Italy all her life and before her death she said she wanted to spend the remainder of her time by the sea and so a house was bought for her in Venice on the shore. Anthony did say that she loved the sea and so died happy and content and prehaps thats what the songs trying to reflect on. | |

Interesting. I think this song is amazing, yet I dont know why. I personally find the lyrics too obscure, and though you all make a good argument, I agree with flea who wrote "This song hasn´t any meaning. In the Making of FF-Video (MTV) Anthony said something like "Don´t ask me what this song is about, because I don´t know"." Prehaps it doesnt refer to one single theme, prehaps it doesnt refer to anything, prehaps it is puerly intended to be enjoyed and endulged by the psychadylic souls of this universe.......... |
